Ban the Tiger Punch: Cut moar taxes!

Detroit is in the unenviable position of not having enough citizens left to tax to support their services. It's going to be interesting to see it play out - what happens when there isn't a base left to tax?

Democrats and Republicans should both pay attention. Republicans can watch and see what happens when there aren't any more government services. Democrats can watch and see what happens when the mythical money Unicorn falls over and dies.

I wonder how many of the perpetrators were ex-police who have turned to a life of crime to make up for the lost income?

sure haven't: Wife and I go shopping in Detroit sometimes, although we stick to the white bread areas.

For the first while though on those freeways going through the inner city you just feel your heart sink for everyone living there.

Took a wrong turn off a freeway once and ended up in some neighborhood with burned out buildings. So strange the night and day-ness. One area is all money and shopping. Two neighborhoods over it looks like a literal war zone.

Seriously. Got lost once - closed on ramp - and ended up in an area where we should not have been. Cop pulled up along side us at a light and told us to drive to the interstate and not stop again for lights or stop signs or anything else. That scared me more than the neighborhood.

Half of the police force isn't there anymore and crime is not only still there but up...that can mean only one thing: It wasn't the policemen. Maybe they should now let half of the firemen go and see if that helps.

depends on the type of murders. if they are domestic or crimes of passion types, I would be surprised because don't prevent those.

If they were the result of increased criminal activity, embiggenment, because they know there are fewer cops, then no, I wouldn't be surprised.

I wish Inkster were a simple problem like "Too many unions" or "Too many Democrats" or "Too many Republicans" or "Too many dark people" or "Not enough cops" or "Taxes too high" or "Taxes too low" or "Too many greedy corporations." Inkster is a complex problem that does not lend itself to the simplistic thinking often found in internet comments sections.

kg2095: sparty: They should have cut the fire department instead-- not much left to burn anyway...

You've got to remember that the people there have selected and re-elected their liberal paradise for the past 40 years. Let them live with their consequences.

Do you seriously think there are any liberal governments in the USA? The closest you have is center right.

What is particularly disingenuous about your post is that the current condition of Detroit has more to do with the short term profit motive of inept corporations and the bullheaded inanity of big labor unions than it does with local government policy.

Here are some photos from real liberal societies. Compare and contrast to Detroit:

1st of all, you're wrong.
2ndly, pictures of clean streets are proof of nothing.
3rdly, the countries of note are 94.4% white and 92% white, respectively. Detroit is 81.5% black... So which is it you are implying: libs stake no responsibility for Detroit after having owned city hall since 1962 or that Norway and Australia have less crime because you found pictures of clean streets inevitably kept up by their white citizens.... Or are you saying that these countries are safer overall b/c these countries are more white? Seriously. What's your point? And why are you comparing entire countries to a shiat hole city like Detroit? Why not point to Greece or Russia? Those countries also have white people the last time I checked. What's your game here buster? Speak! Ruff! Ruff! Hehehehehehehehehehh

if my city cut the police force in half tonight, tomorrow morning I'd be at a gun store the moment the clerk put the Open sign up.

I want you to hear me tonight, I am not saying that President Obama is the Antichrist, I am not saying that at all. One reason I know he's not the Antichrist is the Antichrist is going to have much higher poll numbers when he comes. President Obama is not the Antichrist. But what I am saying is this: the course he is choosing to lead our nation is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist. it is time for Christians to stand up and to push back against this evil that is overtaking our nation" and to do so via "the ballot box."

Holy sh*t. I've heard of the no stop light rule.
Yeah that would frighten me a great deal.

A buddy and me went to a red wings game. After it we kinda got lost looking for the car. I was starting to be concerned cause the streets were emptying out. Kept thinking hmm we're about to be lost downtown Detroit at night. This will be interesting. And by interesting I mean terrifying.

SoundOfOneHandWanking: I suppose if they get two more, it would be a 40% increase which is indeed a spike, but going from 10 to 12 isn't exactly the crimewave they imply

FTA:Since July, when the police force was cut in half, there have been 10 murders in Inkster, a Detroit suburb with a population of about 25,000. There have been 12 murders so far this year.

So, if this is accurate, there were 2 murders from January through the layoffs in July. There have 10 since the layoffs in July. That is, indeed, quite a spike.

And 12 murders in a year (so far) for a town of 25,000 is pretty bad no matter how you look at it.

This is just how the blacks celebrate "4 more years" of THEIR guy in office.

Seriously though -- Detroit is a shiat hole, and a textbook example of what happens when you let crazy black people take over.

You can try to ignore the race issue all you like - but it's there. For all the "brotherly love" they like to preach, they sure don't practice it.

Just nuke from orbit and be done with it.

Well, no shiat Sherlock.

Cops really do serve a purpose, you know. I know that's tantamount to heresy around here, but they do in fact prevent crime, take perpetrators off the streets, and arrest criminals before they commit other, more heinous crimes. Remove half the cops, and the ones who are left have twice as much to do and are about 1/3 as effective.

It's just too bad that "I told you so" has to come at the expense of all the people victimized by the crooks that the cops weren't there to arrest.
