Kevin72: by butthurt Republicans changing the electoral rules

you should read more :) the rule change (22. amendment) was iniatiated by the democrats, who were already getting pissed at FDR. The fact that the Republicons had the Congress majority was irrelevant. 2/3 majority was needed. The Libruls were more than happy to oblige.

SO no butthurt republicans as much as scared little libruls did it.

The "founding fathers", who some people worship in spite of knowing nothing about them, were rich landowners who didn't want to pay their taxes. Even being a white male anglo-saxon protestant was not enough under the oligarchy they set up. You had to own enough land to qualify to vote, enough that you would have been nobility in old Europe. They talked about liberty and freedom while setting up a system rigged to give only themselves power, and continued to own slaves.

I still think that because by the standard of the age they were striving for a form of freedom and liberty that they shouldn't be completely cast aside into the same pot as despots as barbarians. Judging things by the standard of the age is very important when one looks to see progression from zero liberty to lots of liberty.

I still think Americans should have just paid their bloody taxes.
