The only way Jeff Gordon could be more hated right now is to grab a microphone and announce he voted for Obama.

Is it bad for car sponsored by auto-parts maker to blow an engine? Sort of like Bowyer pitting because he's very tired.

catastrophe averted: Hey all. Sorry I'm late. What have I missed?

1. The Idol's farked.
2. You have to be insane or an MIT educated engineer to own a Mercedes Diesel.
3. NASCAR should solve its aerodynamic problems by going back to the 1970 body styles. And carrying moonshine in the trunk. Ethanol fuel does NOT count.
4. KyBu is generally running away with the race.
5. Brad's faster than Jimmeh.
6. Truex broke.
7. The 49 ate a wall.
8. ATT commercials are still bad.
9. RCR racing is gonna suck seriously next year.

That's pretty much it. Bk is still down a couple points in the Chase, but only a couple. He's led a lap at least.

Jensaarai: Shadow Blasko: Damnit.. I use Mobil 1, but that commercial is starting to make me regret it.

Hamilton is leaving McLaren for Mercedes next year, so the likelihood of those commercials being repeated much longer are diminishing. The banter between Smoke and Ham is good, they just need to either cut more, or play them less.

clear_prop: Mztlplx: Jensaarai: ClavellBCMI: And all of the changes that were made to come up with the 2012 car were in an effort to get rid of pack racing and freight-train drafting, which really only affected the races at Daytona and Talledega (and Texas, to a degree).

Yeah. Looks like the focus this time is on fixing the 1.5 milers, which is absolutely where it should be, if we're stuck with em for now.

The thing is, I get the feeling that NASCAR is mostly angling for an "at least they tried," consolation from the fans. They talk about reducing horsepower, but don't commit to it. They talked about reducing downforce, but added it all back and are now going in the opposite direction.

I'm hopeful for next season to have better side by side racing, but I'm not confident in NASCAR's ability to break its own groupthink which lands us in our current spot every few years.

Still, at least they're aware of what fans are saying, which is more than I'd have credited 'em with, and a lot better than the current "fark what the fans want" attitude over in Indycar. Heh.

Go back to using the 1970 body styles. Problem solved.

Use 'stock' cars right from the showroom. Complete with all the stock systems. Be careful bump drafting or you'll deploy the airbags. And carry a trunk full of moonshine.

These days it would be carrying a trunk-full of either meth or pot.
