StreetlightInTheGhetto: bbfreak: Asian American's turned off by the GOP? No problem, just appoint Pete Hoekstra to take up the cause! Oh wait...

BWAHAHAHA. I almost forgot about that. Asshole. (Hoekstra, not you).

Anyone want to watch a horribly racist election ad?

The girl is very hittable though.

Asian-Americans, like any other immigrant group, come here with the hope of bringing family members with them. Tough enforcement of immigration laws makes life as hard for them as it does for any other immigrant group, and frustrates their hope of reuniting families in America.

That might be a factor, but the bigger issue to me (being of south Asian decent) is that most conservatives love to use Asians as an example to African American/Latino minorities but they also don't want to see Asians get too successful. There is no question there is a major strain of xenophobia with a few members of the Republican party, and the party doesn't exactly try to separate itself from that faction. You don't have to look any further than the article's comments or any mosque trying to be built within a 2,000 mile radius of ground zero to get what I'm talking about. As much as I agree with moderate Republicans with a lot of policy issues (placing accountability around social programs, REAL fiscal responsibility), I can't bring myself to support a party that has no problem pandering to bigots to get the votes it needs to be in power.

I give the author a ton of credit for writing this article, because Asian-Americans blow a huge hole in the hackneyed, "Immigrants vote for Democrats because they want free stuff" argument, but I don't think its immigration policy that is the deciding factor. (Actually if you polled immigrant communities about immigration policy you'd actually be surprised to find that a lot of them are the biggest supporters of finding a way to enforce the fact that was have immigration laws in place).

so nyc has special elite public schools for asians. i'm so not surprised.

also:
More than half (54%) say that having a successful marriage is one of the most important things in life.

asians cling to an archaic notion that filing a contractual agreement with the local government is the best way to show your love to your mate. still not surprised. most asians look to their government to tell them most everything about how to live their lives. of course they want to file some paperwork when they fall in love.

So the democrats pulled 70% of the Latino vote and 70% of the Asian vote. But the number everyone should be most concerned with is the fact that Republicans pulled 70% of the white christian vote. For the Republicans it shows the limits of their appeal and how they are basing their message on attracting a shrinking demographic, and for everyone else it pretty effectively shows that racism isn't dead in this country. I'm not saying that white people voted for Romney because Obama was black, but because the republican platform appealed to those who want to extend the inborn privileges that come from being born white (and male).

I have yet to see a comments section in any conservative editorials about demographics that didn't resemble a klan rally. From Brietbart:

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/11/10/Hispanic-Voters-De s erting-Republicans

to Rush Limbaugh inforing his listeners that Cuban Americans are despised in the hispanic community because they aren't dark enough

It gets better. According to Wikipedia: " In the HTML code on Hoekstra's site, the woman in the ad is identified as "yellowgirl",[30] but a statement released explained the HTML code was mistakenly shortened from "yellowshirtgirl".[31]"

You know what would get those Asian votes rolling in? Have a Gangnam-style all-you-can-eat sushi feed! With a math contest, calculators to every winner!

2012-11-11 12:57:23 PM
Can't you people read? The headline said think outside the box. The answer is simple. We just need a new minority group. A Huge Group of strong-backed, slack-jawed voters. Heck, they should be designed to vote. Early and Often. Then, back to work down in the coal mines. Actually, they could live in the mines, thereby freeing up valuable surface areas. We have the technology. And 4moaryears to develop some prototypes.

Who's With Me!?

Obviously, the solution is to have a positive, uplifting, conservative Asian speaker at the next RNC, to appeal to Asian-Americans and make the case why they should vote GOP.

img.photobucket.com

That will fix the GOP's image problems with Asian-Americans and solve racism, xenophobia, and nativism forever, right?

2012-11-11 01:04:27 PM
If the Republican Party can't win the support of the immigrant group with the strongest family values and the most success in achieving the American dream

But Asian family values are much different. They are actually related to raising a family rather than hating gay people.

2012-11-11 01:05:44 PM
No surprise at all that the party that openly abhors education and science lost the Asian vote. Especially in the year where all the job creators (the millionaires and billionaires) took the helm and made the brilliant decision that "gut feelings" would ultimately win the day against statistics.

I remember when Japan was dealing with Fukushima I was very impressed at how closely knit their society was. Because they value the elderly and structure their society based on status, they were able to cooperate with one another while and quickly evacuate the area while avoiding widespread panic. When the government told them they needed to get out of town, they just did it. They responded way better than we probably would have.

So yeah, it's probably gonna be pretty tough to get them to abandon their love of education and science to get them to vote for a party generally opposed to the idea of society.

2012-11-11 01:06:07 PM
Oh also: You have 70% of Latinos voting democrat, 70% of Asians voting democrat, and 90% of African-Americans voting democrat.

Let's win all of those people back to our side by referring to them as "takers", "moochers", and people who only want "free stuff".

It's amusing...The general consensus among Republicans after losing on Tuesday seems to be that they don't have a substance problem, just an brand problem.

They think they merely need to just wrap up their regressive, bigoted, ignorant bullshiat in a prettier package and then all these demographics will flock to them.

*shrug* Maybe, they're right...

2012-11-11 01:22:26 PM
I know its wrong for me to take so much pleasure in all of this but for so long I've watched the GOP exploit the fear and ignorance of white people while alienating other groups. I knew they were eating their seed corn and I knew this would come back to haunt them, I just didnt expect it to happen so soon. Here I am watching this play out. To watch the monster they created destroy their own party....it's just so damn satisfying.
