I think the only appropriate response to this is for the GOP to start harassment and intimidation of Asians. Maybe Rush could have an "Asian hilarious jokes!" special as a warm up.

Just wanted to point out that over a third of American Muslims are of South Asian descent, so that might be an issue for y'all.

I'm sure the GOP will handle this with the good grace and social sensitivity they've become known for. Oh wait, it's happening already!

Apart from some fatuous self-congratulation from Asian-American liberals, there has been very little discussion of the 73-26 Asian-American margin of support for President Obama in last Tuesday's election.

Typical liberals! F' em!

There is no "minority" group that votes for Republicans. Only non-Hispanic whites.

Minorities! Minorities everywhere! These old white men can't swing a dead cat without hitting a different minority.

QFT. Is it any wonder they're angry?

Wow, a party opposed to math and science can't get the support of the Asian community?

Split half and half, and Cubans are Hispanics. We don't go around trying to figure out who Japanese or Poles vote for, so who cares about Cubans?

It's almost like the GOP is the party of white people.

It is hard to blame opponents of immigration.

Uh, no. I'm an immigrant and I can blame them pretty easily.

Not this whitey.

It's almost as if a decades-long effort to craft policy positions that only benefit a shrinking demographic has somehow hurt the GOP. I hope someone in the coming days discovers and reports on this phenomenon.

You mean an ethnic group that traditionally values education is rejecting the party that believes fact-checkers are a liberal plot?

2012-11-11 11:18:22 AM
So, anyway, I was at the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association regional conference in Stamford in 2011, where the Honorable Denny Chin of the 2d Cir. Court of Appeals was the keynote speaker.

You know what really pissed off these most elite of the Asian-American elite? That the GOP took months to stonewall and filibuster Goodwin Liu, President Obama's nominee for the 9th Cir. Court of Appeals. That REALLY annoyed a lot of people.

Well there is your problem, 49% of them Asians have gone to a liberal socialist indoctrination school.

By the way, I'm reading the comments and most of them are some of the most xenophobic comments I've ever read, between referring to immigrants as "barbarians at the gates" and calling people not "real Americans".

2012-11-11 11:35:08 AM
So not only should we copy off Asians for exams, we should also do it for ballots.

Here are some particularly clueless comments:

"I see Americans and Europeans at sea when it comes to an understanding of how effortlessly superior they are compared to the rest of the world. It's not even a close call. No matter how trivial a bit of info I read about when it comes to Western culture, the innovation is obvious.....Fewer Europeans, a less bright America. That's not an opinion or wish or dream but a fact based on a rising graph these last 200 years that separated itself from the rest of the world and soared out of sight." - Fail Burton

"Catering to the barbarians at the gate is never a good idea. Its the path to ruin." - Tcobb

"hmmm.......most asians are Legal immagrants are they not. So their voting pattern is not about a Amnesty policy, and neither is the hispanic.

Its about Free Stuff.....always has been." - sbark

"It won't matter. The Asians love hating whitey too. And many of them come from left wing/socialist countries just like the "latinos". You are whistling in the wind." - Betino

Yeah this one stuck out to me:

In many ways Asians are more 'white' than whites. Higher grades and SAT scores, lower crime rate, harder working.

Gee, what an interesting definition of "white" you have there.

2012-11-11 12:03:56 PM

RexTalionis: effortlessly superior

So we don't work harder?

2012-11-11 12:26:24 PM

Korean-Americans, maybe? IIRC Indian-Americans are the most likely to vote and the most likely to go Dem. That's a total stab in the dark question from me barely remembering a I-think NPR story about Asian American GOTV efforts and some conversation I had with an Asian American voting rights group lady half a year ago.

From what the talking heads tell me, it was 3rd generation Cubans that went for Obama. I guess the older Cubans are dying off. I hold out hope that normalized relations with Cuba are in the near future.

At the very least, it's been proven you can carry Florida, which Obama has done twice now, without catering to the loony Cuban community.

GOP Strategist 1: Strange, isn't it? A group that values family and hard work should obviously side with us...

GOP Strategist 2: Oh wait, here it is. They also value education and critical thinking skills, so they can see through our bullshiat and they realize we're not actually about those things at all.

GOP Strategist 1: What do we do about it? Maybe we should start adjusting our policies so that these people will identify with us. They're a growing demographic. We're seeing a similar problem with Latinos.

GOP Strategist 2: IMMIGRATION REFORM!!!!!! VOTER ID LAWS TO STOP THE FRAUD!!!!! 25 YEAR WAITING PERIOD FOR IMMIGRANTS TO VOTE!!!!! RAWWRRR!!!!!

GOP Strategist 1: Oh shiat, what was I thinking? STOP THE ANCHOR BABBBIEEESSS!!!! CUT FUNDING FOR EDUCATION!!!!! SPEAK ENGRISH!!!!!

GOP Strategist 2: That should get 'em to come back to us.

GOP Strategist 1: Just wait libs, 2016 is gonna hurt soooo bad for you.

Either way, it just proves that the GOP establishment in Miami is in big trouble and no amount of gerrymandering can keep them in power for much longer (and they're trying their best to hold out as long as they can).
