"What I should do, he advised, is set up a specific site and get the Bosker impostor to click on the link. Once he or she has accessed this (trap) page, I'd have his or her IP address and could pinpoint his or her geographic location, and perhaps trace the IP address back to a jealous ex, hometown friend or anonymous stalker."

That depends on the type of fabric in the seat cushions. Leather is very reflective, but certain types of older upholstery leave gaping proxy holes.

Even more disturbing was the fact that "Bianca Bosker's" most recent status update was word-for-word, period-for-period, my most recent status update.

My Glob! The prankster can copy and paste! We're doomed!

I felt like I'd received a prank phone call from someone who knew where I was, what I was wearing, and the last thing I'd said out loud. I realized I was being watched.

The hell you say?! You put your life on public display and now someone is "watching" you?! THE PROFILE IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE!

Seriously, how farking retarded is this woman? You're being trolled. It's probably someone you know since literally no one else in the world knows who you are or cares. If you don't want them ripping off your info to troll you, make your profile private.

That's OK... I have a hotmail e-mail that idiots use ALL THE TIME as a "Fake e-mail" when registering at sites. When I get notices, I imediately log in andchange the password and take over the site.

Today, the idiot that used my e-mail to register a facebook account has been trying to get their password reset. I hopped on the page and updated the picture:

3.bp.blogspot.com

I made a comment on that facebook page that I hated it when idiots use my e-mail and "it made me want to smoke crack" - maybe the person will get a clue.

I did something similar with some wench that registered at "SugarDaddy.com" - I turned her into an obvious crackwhore. More disturbing, is all the sugar daddies that want to hook up with her. WTF is wrong with people?

2012-11-11 10:32:56 AM
Huh....221,000 people follow her and one of them is obviously of ill repute.

...what are the odds!

If you're going to put yourself out there like that then there are going to be consequences. No doubt you've put in alot of work to merit those 221,000 followers and just like any other commodity it can just as easily be swiped and used for nefarious things.

Life sucks. Wear a helmet.

My FB comedy:

I lost interest in FB and didn't log in for months. One day, I get a "suspicious activity, your account has been locked" email. Click here to verify your ID and get back in.

I check the URL and it's legit, so I click. FB says it's sending a SMS to my mobile number with a PIN I will need to enter online. I recognize the number, but I don't recall putting it on FB. Better yet, I haven't owned that phone number in years so I can't get the PIN.

There is no way to report this problem. No alternative ID verification method. I say fark it and go back to life. There's nothing on FB that I need.

Weeks later, I get email saying, "Sorry you're having trouble logging in to FB. Click here for help." Again, I verify it's legit and then click.

I'm offered password reset. I reset password and get confirmation email.

I log in with new password and there's the phone PIN thing again. FB just let me reset my account's password even though FB doesn't believe I am me.

Still no way to report a problem. So I say fark it again.

Still getting monthly "Sorry you're having trouble logging in...." emails. If it's a phisher, I guess he's having trouble too and wants my help. If it's really FB, fark it.

Bizarre.

The precision with which my profile had been copied suggested to Alex Horan, senior product manager for computer security provider Core Security, that a human, not a script, had created the account by hand.

If the copy is really precise, it suggests the opposite to me: that it really was created by a script.

But maybe the guy just meant that the victim was hand-picked or someone tuned the result (e.g. made sure the GIS photo matched her) instead of an automated bot picking her at random.
Then again, one explanation for the baffling behavior of using the fake account to friend her and not people on her friends list could be a programming bug.

Imagine, for example, a bot trying to add people close to her (e.g. friends of her friends) while avoiding people on her friends list because her direct friends might ask questions about her "new" profile.
Maybe this imaginary bot's programmer forgot to add the original target to the list of accounts not to firend, i.e. there's a block like this:

if ( $target.getListOfFriends().contains($account) ) {
// $account is direct friend of $target => don't contact $account
}
else {
doFriend($account);
}

where it should be this:

if ( $account==$target OR $target.getListOfFriends().contains($account) ) {
// don't try to friend $target itself or any of $target's friends
}
else {
doFriend($account);
}

That was my thought too. Some group of goofballs will find this wildly amusing and devote their nights and weekends to creating ever wilder and more absurd Diana Boskers, not only on Facebook, but on social media, gaming, product review, whatever sites. Eventually, creating a false Diana Boaker persona will become a rite of passage. Kids in middle school will ask each other "what does YOUR Diana Bosker profile have on it? Mine pretends she's an alien sent from an advanced civilization to judge whether the human race deserves to be admitted to the Galactic Confederacy."

See, I have the opposite problem. Virginia Tech allows you to set up multiple aliases for your email address; they're all linked, check one and it checks them all, etc. Can delete them at any time so if I have concerns about spam I use one of the alias emails so I can always delete it if I wanted to. So I set up fake_email_address[nospam-﹫-backwards]tv*edu 15ish years ago.

I keep running into sites where it auto rejects that email, thinking it's a fake email address.

When I'm actually entering a fake email address, I usually use fark[nospam-﹫-backwards]uoy*com.

I think you can just submit any link with a question mark followed by any string, and it'll just link to the URL before the question mark. It's usually used to submit some kind of code (PHP I think?) to the site's web server but if it's not legitimate code then it just does nothing.

Example: www.fark.com?lulz

She was probably drunk one night and decided to create another FB account because she's an attention whore and she needs as many followers as she can get. Then she woke up and completely forgot about it until she logged into her original account and saw herself trying to friend herself. Of course there is no way this could happen without her account being hacked.

Now that she's gone to the interwebs with her "OMG I WAS HACKED!" story, she'll get even more followers and her AWing can continue stronger than ever.

It's the circle of (Facebook) life.

I'm pretty sure Facebook cross-indexes your profile with info harvested from other sources. I don't know the full reach of all these "apps" and such, but you could have a friend that has your contact info in a smartphone that shares info with the Facebook app, or who entered your info on a website (e.g., e-card) that has some FB integration, and that all gets meshed together in one big giant pile of suck. They may not even know for sure who is you, just guess with a high rate of confidence based on your name and network of friends.

The query string can be read by several programming languages. It's kind of like pressing F10 in a program that doesn't support it - nothing happens, so you can press to your heart's delight.
