(Chicago Trib)   Notre Dame is 10-0, and the BCS will undoubtedly find a way to make up some sort of mathematical formula that will keep them out of the #1 spot, but the Coach's poll should get it right   (chicagotribune.com) divider line 106

Oregon and Kansas State would both roll right through Notre Dame. ND is third, at best. Alabama is better than ND but the Tide laid an egg yesterday.

I'll have some of whatever subby has been smoking. ND will be #3, right where they belong.

It'd help if they didn't almost lose to shiatty teams like PItt and Purdue ... and BYU

Poor old Notre Dame...they never get any respect in the media.

Isn't it wonderful that all four will get a chance to prove themselves against each other on the field so that at the end of the season there can be no possible disp-- oh, right, this is college football we're talking about. (sigh) Resume discussing the real-world consequences of imaginary football games.

Terrible pass offense - if they ever get behind, they're going to be in real trouble. A team that can't throw the ball really shouldn't be number one, but then again LSU and Alabama have both won titles in recent years with nothing but defense and a running game, so...shows what I know.

2012-11-11 10:27:16 AM
If only ND could get some respect in this country.

Seriously, their tough schedule has turned out to be pretty average. And yet they have still managed to keep a lot of games close. SOS has fallen to 28th in the Country. So the argument is pretty weak. Oregon's SOS is 9th, KSU is 31, but they have been dominant.

I loathe Oregon, but they would roll ND. KSU I am not so high on, they are one Klein injury from being mediocre.

A lot of these games get scheduled 2-3 years in advance. In any event, it's not a creampuff schedule by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I would dare say that the difference between any of the top 10 teams is a lot smaller than you think it is. In any event, I'm rooting for ND to finish undefeated at #3. That'll really crank up the pressure for a BCS playoff.

Not enough teams imo but it's a start

Yes. Poor, persecuted Notre Dame. Always with the odds and the powers-that-be stacked against them, vainly struggling to carry on in a world that doesn't give them any respect or television coverage or 18 million bandwagon fans.

2012-11-11 11:03:24 AM
notre dame sucks. they're kinda like florida this year. neither team should have the record that they have and both are ranked too high. it will probably self-correct in a couple of weeks when usc beats notre dame and florida st beats florida though

2012-11-11 11:04:48 AM
As a ND fan, I think they should be #3. Drop Ala. to 4. For years the SEC has cried that the regular season is a playoff and the BCS is just fine. Well, bye....

They were talking about it during one of the games yesterday if KS, ORE, and ND go undefeated that it would be KS-ORE. One of the announcers was like, "Could you imagine telling the past that there would be a situation where ND would be undefeated and left out of the title game, and even funnier that Kansas State would go over them; you'd be laughed at". He wasn't using it as a ND SHOULD GO, but more of a how times change thing.

Current polling and projections give the BCS a 72 percent chance of screwing something up. Remember, it is probability analysis.

And rightly so. ND has lived off of their ultimate Storied College status for decades now.

Join a conference or be laughed at, Notre Dame.

The B1G offered numerous times, but ND was always too convinced ND is God's Gift to Football.

Don't worry. They'll get embarrassed by UGA or Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and life will go on.

With no conference championship to artificially boost their SOS, they'll suffer the final week regardless of this week. Oregon knows a bit about that.

Yep - there are 3 unbeatens (setting aside schools who let players get illicit tattoos) and Notre Dame is clearly third best.

/In a playoff system, they would play K-State in the semifinals, while the other game would feature Oregon against the SEC champ. How is this even debatable?
//of course we have to wait a couple of years to implement that wild 'settle it on the field' concept

2012-11-11 11:40:29 AM
notre dame appears to have a tougher schedule than oregon, so i wouldn't be mad if oregon got left out. oregon played an embarrassingly bad out of conference schedule and it would be nice to see them punished for it the same way that auburn (deservedly) did in 2004.
if you look at their 6 toughest games, it's pretty even
notre dame............................................oregon
stanford.................................................stanford
oklahoma...............................................oregon st

WTF. A&M beats the #1 one school and doesn't budge a single spot? The #2 #3 and #4 schools all win and Bama is still at the top? How in the hell did Stanford drop a spot by beating #11? Am I the only one who thinks none of these polls make any sense? Sure I can see some BS Voodoo in the BCS but across the AP and Coach's Poll?

Where does TAMU move up to? They have 2 losses but just beat the #1 team on the road.

I bet Michael Slive is pissed they were allowed to join the conference...

Notre Dame is the weakest of the undefeated teams. Not even close. They will lose to USC, so all this will be moot.

ND only put up 3 touchdowns against BC. That'll be their excuse.

Bama should have lost last week also.

Two teams that should have 2 losses.

The human polls hate Oregon and K-State so much they're ranked No. 1 and 2.

/Notre Dame isn't playing USC in South Bend - they're f*cked. They used South Bend refs to beat Stanford and Pitt - what are they going to do when the refs don't ignore TDs to give them wins? Or give them catches they don't make, and PI they don't earn?

Isn't K-State being ranked #1 one of the signs of the apocalypse?

They need room for six SEC teams in the top 12. They deserve, with a total one of combined OOC win against a BCS conference opponent.

Oregon is simply unstoppable at this point. You can't negotiate with them, you can't defend against them, you can only hope that Chip Kelly will be merciful and not grind you into the dirt. Oregon hasn't scored less than 40 points IN EVERY GAME THIS YEAR. They're like a damn tsunami of football. You issue a warning to everyone and try to stay out of it's way.

oregon is beatable. it just requires a large, physical defensive line and a month to prepare. a couple of years ago, auburn wouldn't have won if they had played oregon during the regular season. but with 6 weeks to prepare, they were able to get in game shape, practice against against the hurry up, and execute a great defensive game plan. because of their style of play and their talent, oregon will always win a lot of games in the regular season. whether or not they win in the bowl season is kind of a toss-up. if they execute well and are well-prepared for their opponent, they should win.

I would rank K-State #1, ND #2, and Oregon #3. Oregon has taken advantage of the fact they are media darlings and have had a relatively easy schedule, at least when compared to K-State and N.D. If Oregon beats an equally overrated Stanford, the best ND can hope for is #2. They will need for Texas to take down Kstate. Of course, ND could lose and this discussion will come to an abrupt end.

I have always hated ND. Well, jealous of them is more like it, but I have always had respect for the schedule they play.

Pretty much this. I hate Oregon (being in Washington myself), but that team would Steamroll through ND. Hate to admit it, but Oregon looks to be the huge favorite to run away with it now.

Ah I knew I was missing a game because I had only counted 15 with 8 left to play out of 24. OK, so far 2 for 16, and with 3 intra-state OOC matchups against BCS foes left that will make it 5 of 24.
