To me, Nickelback is the zen of music. Because it is nothing. It is completely empty. Many times I have been near a radio or television that was playing Nickelback, but I have never heard a Nickelback song in my entire life. Nickelback to me sounds no different than a still wind. It is void of emotion, thought, and soul. Nickelback can only be heard by those who have yet to come to terms with those three aspects of themselves, and it can only be enjoyed by those who lack those three aspects altogether.

So, let me get this straight. We hate Nickelback, however the joke's on us because they are money-grubbing corporate sellouts BY DESIGN.

Earth to NPR: that is exactly why we hate them in the first place.

I hate them because they're lowest-common-denominator "rock". That and their lead singer always sounds like he's trying to squeeze out a huge turd.

There are many other bands that deserve our loathsome wrath before Nickleback. I don't get why we rail against them so much when Maroon 5 is still making music.

I don't get how stupid people liking shiatty music means the joke is on me for not liking said shiatty music. All that article tells me is that there are a lot of people out there with bad taste.

What's the difference between Nickelback, Creed, Linkin Park, Staind, Chevelle, or any other band you hear on "alternative rock" or "buzz" radio?

That's not a lead in to a joke. I can't tell the difference between any of them. They're all by-the-numbers, contrived anger, followed by deep introspection forgettable songs.

/I'm forced to listen to this crap at work.

forstmeister: People like AC/DC but hate Nickelback? Isn't that like saying "I hate meatballs, but I love meatballs."?

Either way, both of these bands have the same formula for most of their songs, and a lot of people seem to buy their records because it appeals to the lowest common denominator.

If you seriously can't tell the difference between AC/DC and Nickleback, there's no hope for you.

You know that point when really good rock bands get older and start to sound kind of lame and like a shell of their former selves? Nickleback sounded like that from the very beginning.

I didn't like Nickleback before it was cool to not like Nickleback.

I don't hate them. *shrug* They literally don't bother me at all, and two of their songs I rather like. Guess I'm horrible.

Chabash: I always confuse them with coldplay... I'm never sure which one I'm supposed to dislike.

We're supposed to hate bands other people have heard of already.

My daughter told me that a Nickelback song was possible for their senior song.
She says, that if the internet has taught her nothing else, it has taught her that THAT would be unacceptable.
