Its too bad the mural didn't depict the ritualistic torture and murder of a human being, carried out as some kind of archaic pagan sacrafice to assuage the bloodlust of a vengeful and hate filled deity - I hear Christians really get off on that shiat...

X-tians are starting to lose influence. So they start pissing off the community at large. It will be nice when X-tians will have to be more careful in the future in the states.

Some of them do real good and some do real harm, like the Muslims. Can't we just replace religion with doing good to one another?

This seems to be the second mural in the past several months commissioned by "Living Walls" in Atlanta that has sparked controversy when the local neighborhood took exception to what was painted.

Maybe this Living Walls group should consult more often with the neighborhood....

Living Walls mural sparks debate

FARK: Parents respond calmly and rationally to public art near school depicting nudity. "The pubic hair is showing and nakedness. It's not necessary." "This is a shortcut from his school. We'll take the long way home"

Whar cops?!?!?!

Oh right, white people being persecuted, by Satan, defaced the mural...... then no proper permits for the mural to be done in the first place. So its all even brother....

/Damn car driving fish worshipers of Satan. The fish decal makes you a Satan worshiper ya defacing idiots.

phrawgh: God will reward them for this brave act. Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history.

A great example of Poe's Law

That mural looked like something a bored middle school student would doodle in their text book, hardly something I would want in my neighborhood, I imagine this might have played out the same anywhere else, just different reasoning, but the same results.

Christianity: The belief that a god became man through virgin birth, resurrected after death, and ascended from the Earth into some other realm, and it's all based on the writings of people who had an exceedingly limited understanding of the natural world. I can understand their contemporaries buying it, but now? Which religion one follows is mostly dependent on place of birth, and other religions are considered incorrect based on circular logic. Yep, the group sounds pretty deluded as a whole.

Coelacanth: When I was working at the Bellagio, we had some casino porters who got upset about Satanic exhibits in the art gallery there.

They thought the Russian exhibit with the Faberge Eggs was the work of the Devil.

The Faberge exhibit was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. That must have been back in about '04. The gallery at Bellagio is the only thing I make a point of seeing when I go to Las Vegas... that and getting a fattening treat at Gellato, cuz damn.

Actually only one guy said anything about satanic.

The other people may have painted the thing over because it was butt-ugly.

Maybe the people who have to look at the things (this was the second) should get a say so

Okie_Gunslinger: Yeah, in the same way that stepping on a bug is murder.....

Both these people and the Taliban destroyed pieces of art because the art offended their bugfark crazy religious beliefs. The only scale involved is the relative merit of the Buddhas the Taliban destroyed vs. this artist's mural.

Oh and that the people in Atlanta used paint instead of explosives. But it's the same act done for the same reasons.

All Christians believe pretty much one thing right? They believe that a perfect half-man son of a deity who is all knowing all loving and all powerful died and suffered to forgive all of humanity for all of time for all of their transgressions and that if you don't accept this then you'll be forever tormented and punished by this same "all-loving" deity.

Yes. I don't think believing ALL MEMBERS of this group are crazy is all that bad of a thing.

Coming on a Bicycle: Some people lack the right amount of reference to distinguish between words for what they don't like (or like); they've simply grown up to classifiy things only within the bounds of their religion. Therefore, when they say something is 'satanic', they may well mean that they really think it's 'ugly' - they just don't have the word for it.

Reminds me of people who call everything they oppose politically "socialist" or "communist"

But I have little doubt that Living Walls went through the proper procedures to paint the mural on a public wall (bet there was even public notices letting people have a say, alas none of these vandals got off their butts.)

How uncertain could the mural be if someone painted over the damn thing?

I wish this (redacted) was limited to the South. A company in Schaumburg Il had this rather cool abstract sculpture of a bathing lady. It was dihedral concrete and looked like it was scrawled upon with a giant magic-marker. It had little wisps of crayon-like pubic hair.

The company took a lotta complaints. First they tried to grow evergreen trees to obscure it from the road, then they just took it down. Sick.

phrawgh: markie_farkie: Fish are satanic?
[files.abovetopsecret.com image 508x212]
Hmmm.
Most symbols that people use have a story behind them and are used to make a statement. Some of the most famous are the so-called Christian symbols such as the cross and the fish. Whilst they provide a useful mean of identification, all of these are carnal and nowadays used promiscuously by everybody, thus it is best for us to avoid using them. Moreover they all have a precedent story of paganism, a thing we Christian must avoid, even if some says the pagan origins have now been lost in history. The wearing or keeping such symbols has the tendency to bring veneration to them and thus returning to paganism. Besides, what saith the Word of God: God is a spirit, and the ones worshiping Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)
What are we to do with all these "Christian" symbols that have pagan (satanic) roots? Absolutely nothing. And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever? (2 Corinthians 6:15)
A godly man once said about people wearing a cross hanging from the neck: "we ought to hang on the cross ourselves rather than the cross hanging from our necks".
Another one said: "when in doubt, leave it out".
Whether or not these pagan symbols have lost their original pagan meanings in our modern era (a doubtful situation) it is best not to be involved with them, we do not need them. Moreover, another secure test is to see what the world does with them: if the world loves them, then they are not godly for the world hates anything from God, and our stern warning is this: Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, (1 John 2:15)
Therefore a Christian that worships God in Spirit and in Truth has no need to make a physical point for his belief and should not wear any jewellery AT ALL, or make use of symbols, whether he knows if they are Pagan or not. Besi ...

Censorship? Really? You're going to throw that card? Every stroke of paint that an artist lays down is not some sort of shrine to the first amendment. This was painted on an embankment retaining wall, by definition that makes it a temporary installation (unless the state is saddled with maintaining it in perpetuity). I think that the group that painted over it are a bunch of whackos. I also think that it was an eyesore and am glad that a "loophole" exists to get the wall returned to a pristine state awaiting the next artist.
