If you're near Allenwood PA I reccommend a trip to Clyde Peelings Reptiland.
Link you should go.
I've raised snakes and dealt in them for twenty years now.
Had a Albino Burmese Python that was 12' - that was my biggest yet.
Lots of Boa's and I'm a huge fan of Corn Snakes
Not really interested in venomous though.
He writes about respect - respect is feeding the snake.
They are brutally stupid but excellent at staying alive. Once they're not hungry most of them don't recognize food for what it is.
Case in point Guy went to feed his Boa and chucked a small rat in the cage.
Went to work. Came home to a rat picking his teeth and the Boa minus the top of his head.
Underwater with a snake that big? I'd only do it carrying a razor sharp 10"-12" knife. I'd wanna get through in one slice.
Clyde Peelings had a Retic Python so big it looked like it was paper mache - until it moved. At moments like that you notice the thickness of the glass and you wonder pray if it's tempered.

Cool story bro time:

When my daughter was about 8, we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom. Way at the back, you can take a train to this part that has a petting zoo, and a working laboratory, and other cool stuff, including biologists who do occasional shows featuring some of their animals. One of them came out, got a crowd of a hundred people or so, and pulled out a big wooden box. He asked for a volunteer, and picked the 8 year old girl with the flowered dress and frizzy hair (I would assume because she fit the stereotype he was looking for). He warmed the crowd up with the old "OK, I'm gonna open the box and let you see what's inside, are you ready? She nodded. He opened the top of the box, she looked in and without a second's hesitation grabbed the five foot bull snake out and draped it over her shoulders.
The show fell apart. The guy's patter was absolutely based on a shriek and a run back to Mommy. He literally couldn't continue he was so completely flustered by what she had done.
I had never been prouder of her.

Being a snake owner & father of 3 girls, I say well done. Ya raised her right. And it is 1 of the better CSBs.

dahmers love zombie: I have loved snakes since before I knew how neat girls were. I've owned more than a dozen species, handled more than that, almost been killed by one pet (don't wrap a 7-foot black rat snake around your neck if you're alone), have run all around a number of states looking for 'em. Coolest animals ever.

Very cool story, and cool daughter! When I was a kid we went to the San Diego Zoo, and they had this petting zoo/animal display show. They pulled out this Burmese python and asked if there were any volunteers who wanted to help hold it. My parents tell me that not only did my hand shoot up in the air, I was halfway to the stage before they could blink. I was a rather shy and quiet kid, but the photo of me on that stage holding the tail end of a Burmese is that of the happiest kid in the world. And now I work with snakes as part of my job, so I'm still a pretty happy kid.

Smackledorfer: Canton: Snakes are awesome, but common sense dictates that swimming with a capybara-munching anaconda is less than wise...

Yup. But there were others there.I doubt the snake could get one before getting hacked up by his friends.

Right, so they were also risking the life of the snake. Which is less than ideal.

/Something has to keep the giant rodent population in check.

Interesting story .. That cobra had been defanged and venom glands removed, but it still bit Harrison Ford in the face. Even tho Harrison knew he wasn't in any danger, he instinctively bit the snake in the head, killing it instantly. It's in one of the outtakes.

/ not really

My Burmese had a hide box in the middle of his cage. I tossed in a rabbit. Snake followed bunny around box. Bunny split off to the side, leaving snake to chase and strike at his own tail.

I didn't know snakes could look surprised!

So......with that headline, I thought by now we'd all be getting free snakes. Where are the free snakes? I mean, why would you ask us if we liked snakes unless you had a bunch of free snakes to give away?

AssAsInAssassin: 1) He had a friend with a large python. Went to the friend's house one day. Friend didn't answer, so he walked in. Python had the guy in a choke-hold, and almost had the guy's head all the way in its mouth. They had to kill the python to get it off him. Knives. Guts. Writhing, headless python. Gross.

Fatal?

Not THAT much, no. Maybe if I didn't know it could easily kill me on a whim. I prefer animals that choose to run in fear, not attack in fear. And that's why I'll never go to Australia, among other places.
