sugardave: skullkrusher: Greek: shower_in_my_socks: DICK MORRIS: "We're going to win by a landslide. ...Romney is going to carry 325 electoral votes."

So Obama's f won by a landslide, RIGHT DICK?

He already called it a "squeaker." So, 325 Republican EVs= a "landslide," while 332 Democratic EVs= a "squeaker." Apparently, Dick Morris still believes in the whole 3/5 person thing.

Dick, go suck a toe.

ya know, it is quite possible that Dick was referring to a landslide in the popular vote when referring to Romney. Of course that wouldn't allow for the lulzly juxtaposition of comments so I guess there's that

The quoted sentence would say your analysis is wrong.

that ellipses cuts out quite a bit:

"We're going to win by a landslide. It will be the biggest surprise in recent American political history. It will rekindle a whole question as to why the media played this race as a nail-biter, where in fact I think that Romney is going to win by quite a bit. My own view is that Romney is going to carry 325 electoral votes."

Perfectly reasonable to assume he is referring to the popular vote in the first sentence.

propasaurus: Mrtraveler01: I think this is one of the biggest successes of the Obama campaign this election.

From your link:
Florida's second-largest Hispanic group, Puerto Ricans, gave Obama out-sized support over Romney, 83 to 17 percent in Bendixen's survey.

"This is an ominous, ominous sign for Republicans," Amandi said. His partner, Sergio Bendixen, added that "Puerto Ricans in Florida are voting like Puerto Ricans in New York ... solidly Democratic."

So, yeah, I don't think the Republican House will be voting in favor of Puerto Rico statehood any time soon.

Yeah, on one hand, if they voted to make Puerto Rico a state, it might get them a little more support. Considering the Republicans' recent track record, though, it's more likely that they'll find some way to deny it out of spite, while blaming it on the Democrats.

bbfreak: marius2: I still don't see why it took so long, but still glad to hear this!

Why? Republican's control the state and did all they could to suppress voter turnout and it backfired.

The No. 1 cause for Florida being the last of the 50 states to count its votes in 2012 were a long ballot and changes ordered by the Legislature that swamped elections officials with time-consuming provisional and absentee ballots, experts said.

The big turnout meant more ballots to count. The especially long ballot meant more pages to scan. And a shortened early-voting window resulted in more absentee ballots, which require more time and scrutiny by elections officials before they can be counted.

And all of it in an attempt to stave off the eventual result: an Obama win in Florida.

Here is the full video. Note how he is basing his claims of a "landslide" on polls measuring the popular vote. He also predicts a large margin in the EC but since I don't have to assume that Dick Morris said something that is absurd right on its face, I can easily give him the benefit of the doubt

hehe I mean I am not trying to believe he said something as ridiculous as some would have us believe. It is perfectly reasonable to believe that he was referring to the pop vote when he made his landslide prediction and again in his post-morten when he talks about a landslide for Romney (as he predicted) vs a squeaker for Obama (which it was, more or less).
In fact, that interpretation makes the absolute most sense and requires no gymnastics whatsoever. He also predicted a large margin of EC votes for Romney but when he makes his landslide prediction he spends most of the time talking about "reading" into polls to get what he believes the true results are. High single digit leads for Romney. Polls measure popular votes. He is using his alleged insight into these polls to predict a landslide. Doesn't take a leap.

sure there's a correlation. He thought Romney would win in a landslide in the pop vote and that would lead to a large victory in the EC. The reason he thinks Romney was going to win in a landslide in the pop vote is because of special magic reading he has into poll figures. The landslide he was referring to was in the pop vote, which translates to a large win in the EC. When he wrote his mea culpa, he says I predicted a Romney landslide [5-10 points in the pop vote] and we got an Obama squeaker [2.5% in pop vote]

2012-11-10 05:51:55 PM
romney NEVER had a chance. If we look at nate silvers blog, which we all know now was pretty damn accurate, then the closest romney ever came to striking distance of obama was after the first debate, and obama STILL had the electoral upperhand of 285 votes. There was no mitt romney momentum after the debate, all he did was stop it from being an even bigger blowout

2012-11-10 05:52:55 PM

We've had (very recent) history where the popular vote meant jack shiat, so why would a popular vote "victory" even make a crap?

Almost the entire video is spent predicting popular vote results. " It will rekindle a whole question as to why the media played this race as a nail-biter". The media in general wasn't calling the EC results a "nail biter". The whole "horse race" idea came because of the allegedly tight polling. He was predicting a landslide in popular votes for Romney. He specifically says a 5-10% spread in the video. He claimed that this landslide pop vote victory would also translate into a large margin in the EC but that wasn't the meat of his prediction - his prediction was based on reading into polls. He then translated those poll numbers into what they meant in the EC when he made his prediction of the actual EC number

So when he starts the mea culpa with "I predicted a landslide and we got a squeaker" you actually have to make a leap to pretend he was referring to the EC vote rather than the pop vote to make the "OMG HE'S SOOOO DUMB" work. Since basically the whole basis for his prediction is polling numbers, that isn't the occam's razor choice

and I think it because it's obvious! Back to the "I don't need to believe Dick Morris is cartoonishly stupid rather than just average stupid" so I don't need to pretend he thought 325 was a landslide last week and 332 is a squeaker this week.

It's great being honest. It requires so little effort

skullkrusher: the meat of his prediction

the meat of his prediction was also wrong, incorrect, unbased in reality or worth any more concern than you'd give to a crazy person shaking naked barbie dolls at you from a freeway overpass.

he is that dumb. i'm sorry that hurts you somehow, but...for chrissakes, it's dick morris - it isn't like this incident was required to form the opinion that he is dumb, he's been giving examples for decades now.

KarmicDisaster: skullkrusher:

Doxycycline for occasional folliculitus. Not too exciting. Take with a meal or a full glass of water though.

folliculitus, that's... what, hairy palms?

I love the one of the reasons that FLA turned blue was that the people sticking it to GOV Rick Scott for trying to suppress the vote

People dont wait 6 to 8 hours in line unless they want to make a point and pissed

again, dick morris *is* cartoonishly stupid, even with out this as an example.

it's kind of his bread and butter - it's why he has a job. he's a cartoonishly overstated buffoon - its what he does for a living.

if you say so. I don't think so. Not hurt in the slightest by it except that I have to share webspace with people who need to believe it despite what obvious observation tells them

skullkrusher: despite what obvious observation

again, you think it so it's obvious. gotcha.

dick morris is intelligent, and an intellectual force for good in american politics, his brilliant insight and topical wit are legendary - and whatever other fairy tales help you sleep at night.

i wonder if we can win a "Dick Morris award" from this one.

i'll let you google that one, odd that a person who isn't known for bad political predictions would have such an award named after him - before this election, even.

weird.

this is my shocked face at your mischaracterizing the point :O

Once again, I just like arguing facts and logic and honesty with the biggest whiners about people who are averse to facts, logic and honesty.

skullkrusher: When he wrote his mea culpa, he says I predicted a Romney landslide [5-10 points in the pop vote] and we got an Obama squeaker [2.5% in pop vote]

The funny thing about all this nitpicking is that in order for a candidate to win a popular landslide, the margin has to be overwhelming, in the double digits (not 5-10, 10 or over). Obama won 51.3% of the popular vote. Romney got 48.6%. not even 3 points. When that "squeaker" means a discrepancy of 124 electoral votes, it's called an electoral landslide. Nobody in his right mind would ever have predicted a popular landslide for either candidate, so Dick's "mea culpa" is based completely on the idea that any of his predictions were even remotely reasonable. It's moot which kind of landslide he had in mind because there was only one kind possible, and only for one of the candidates. I know you enjoy nitpicking just for the hell of it, but Dick Morris was eating paint chips, so really, what's the difference which landslide he was referring to?

the funny thing is, i actually believe you think that's what you're doing.

you have all the facts, all the logic, can summon up captain obvious and all of his obviousness...and the people that are looking at you like you just pooped on the carpet are just whiney-whinersons who wouldn't know logic if it legitimately raped their eyesockets.

if this were charades, this would be the part where we all touch our noses and dance about frantically.

his prediction was crap in either estimation - that he can't have a 'landslide' with one victory and a 'squeaker' with another is immaterial - he's a bloviating shiatbag who bloviates shiat for a living.

for real, who on earth would even guess that the response to his terminal wrongness would be consistency on his part? and why?

i keep coming back to what is the underlining point here - it's dick freaking morris. he's doing what dick morris has done, is doing, and will continue to do - be a bloviating gasbag.
