justbob2000: Awesome! I like the science bit the most.

He pretty much hits the nail in all of it. There was this gem in the comments responding to a rambling wall o'text:

The point of the piece is not to refute your inane, self-serving, paranoid, ill-informed worldview - it is to indicate, ostensibly to a political strategist, that they have abandoned the demographic of educated white voters that are the key to winning elections. You clearly don't know what this means, but somebody bundling PAC money should.

He's not religious. He's not a Real American.

That and he lived abroad.

He has a high level of education, has actually paid attention to the world outside the US, and is not afraid of gay people. That is WAY not the Republican target audience. Of course, that's also what will probably sink them.

Shame it won't go green.

I'd love to see that posted verbatim on Free Republic...for the attosecond it would be allowed to remain there.

Looks like they will be choosing option 3 at least for the near future.

He claims to be the GOP's core demographic, but then goes on to say he's educated, so that can't be true.

(Not just being snarky--higher education did correlate with Democratic voting. All that liberal indoctrination at college, you know.)

So, what I got was "Republicans are great! If only they would stop acting like Republicans....."

Based on my conversations of last night, there are still too many of the SEKRIT KENYAN MUSLIN ANTICOLONIALIST derpers out there for the GOP to give them up.

I can't see the GOP overcoming the demographic issues and the Democrats ground game operation any time soon. For national elections at least, as they've carved out swaths of derp America that will serve them in the states.

I can see how one would think that proposing rational behavior to Republicans is pants on the head retarded; because they continually reject such advice. One hopes that with repeated lost elections and repartition of the message it will eventually manage to soak into some of their brains. Though repeating the message of rationality may seem pants on the head retarded it is really just an exhausting necessity.

I'm a lefty but this country would be a lot better off if rational people like that guy had been running the GOP lately instead of Neocons and Teahadists.

You libtards are wrong, as usual.

The GOP has not drifted away from America.

The GOP represents the values of Real America, the cultural heritage that made America the great Shining City On The Hill, in the words of Ronaldus Maximus.

It is America that has drifted away from its own core values, and thus the GOP.

This colossal disaster of an election has proved that America... is un-American.

We will bring America back. Even if we have to kill it to do so. A life of socialist slavery is not worth living.

Nothing original, but apparently something worth saying over and over until the GOP leadership gets it. I read it, and he could be speaking for me. I voted straight-ticket republican for a long time and still hold many of my conservative viewpoints, but the GOP's focus on emotional, divisive religious wedge issues instead of focusing on serious issues that I'm concerned about (balanced budget, science and education funding) have pushed me away. And as long as they continue on the Gingrich/Cheney/Limbaugh style of conservatism, they can kiss my vote away indefinitely.

Obama's not perfect, but at least he's acknowledging  that major problems exist and is trying to address them. And instead of working with him and negotiating some kind of long-term solution that works for both sides, Republican leaders dug in their heels in fear that working with Obama would make the other team look good.

Listen, assholes--I don't give a f*ck about which team you're on. You've spent far too much time biatching about how the yard looks while the goddamn house is on fire.

2012-11-12 08:33:25 AM
That's pretty close to my story. And I'm probably even more melanin deprived than he is.

Yup, the GOP has hitched their wagon to a dying voter base, and appear stunned that they are losing significance.

Not all of us libtards are pacifists. I'm cool with the use of using our latest and best technology to avoid having our soldiers killed or wounded in battle.

Maybe you would prefer we go back to using bayonets and horses.

The problem with this post is it is not political strategy it is a person explaining why he likes the democrats more than the republicans. So his advice is to stop being the republican party and become democrats, great but not particularly useful. The republicans didn't lose because of any of the things he said here. The republicans lost because they cannot convince the minority and women voters to vote for religious beliefs rather than political ones. In reality the republican party has about 4 realistic choices.

1. Do nothing and assume that next time it will be different.
2. Make a token gesture to the Minority voters and hope that it does enough. Maybe a Latino, woman, or Latino woman as a vp choice.
3. Make an actual gesture to Minority voters. Change a couple of party platforms to shore up the loss of the South Eastern States, and to try and convince borderline states to switch.
4. Create a Schism. Kick all the religious voters out. Create a three party system. Go for a Fiscally conservative and socially liberal party. Get close enough to the democrats to start stealing the middle class minority and women voters, but still keep core fiscally conservative beliefs.

I warned my fellow conservatives during the primaries that we were headed down a dangerous path by nominating a Mormon.

And while I would greatly prefer a Mormon to four more years of a muslim in the White House, I wish that the GOP had hewed to its values and nominated a true Christian - someone who would uncompromisingly represent the soul of Real America. Someone like Rick Santorum. Or Newt Gingrich. Or a male version of Michele Bachman (sorry, but the Bible specifically states that a woman shall not rule over men.)

Mitt Romney, aside from being a member of a dangerous cult, had been tainted by his association with the People's Republic of Taxachusetts. He was suspect from the very start. His nomination was the fault of the RINOs, the moderates, who insisted that we needed to reach out to minorities, to women, to people who worship the false god of Science.

We won't be fooled again.

The answer, my friends, is not to go with the flow. We are headed in the wrong direction, to Perdition.

We must draw America back to the right. We must run on true conservatism. We lost this election because we weren't conservative enough.

At the same time, I know quite a few white, heterosexual, employed, educated males who swallow the derp about Obama, or at least enough of it for them to shout, "HE ADMITTED HE FAILED. WE RE-HIRED HIM. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?"

And especially if you get on to the subject of lazy welfare queens on welfare (by which I mean they steer conversation unerringly toward it), man they just go on and on and on. I'm in a northern blue state, so most of them probably don't go for the "evolution is a myth" crap, and something less than 100% go for the "climate change is a myth" crap, and virtually none of them go for the "rape babies are a gift from God" crap, and as far as gay marriage, they will just tell me that they're sick of hearing about it, which is their way of saying, "I don't like it but I won't base an election on it." But lazy welfare queens stealing their money? Their verdict is unanimous. At the top of their lungs, too.

So the real story of this election remains the electorate outside of that group. To which they would shout "THAT'S JUST THE POINT!"

I'd say the dude hit the nail on the head. As a white, educated male born in a Republican household, we are their wheelhouse. But all of my family votes Democratic in national elections now. Why is that?

While  Parthenogenetic writes a good troll game, with all the appropriate buzz words and derpy allegories, he consistenly fails by spelling everything correctly.

He really needs to work on that.

Otherwise, 8/10.  I especially liked the bit about Bachmann being ineligble because of her gender. Hadn't seen that one rolled out since the early primaries.

I'm repeating myself, but ...

IMO the few remaining sane republicans (Christie, maybe?) should leave the GOP and form a new conservative party. They'd probably attract people from the democrat party as well. Leave the GOP to the nutbags. This should give the Democrats space to move further left and everybody wins.

I have a problem with the way drones are being used in some cases. We tend to believe that drones are these infallible devices that are a simple, fool proof way to kill only bad guys with no innocents harmed. This belief lulls us into failing to demand adequate oversight of their use.

Thus, the CIA is able to run fairly well amuck with their drones. Their use of drones is considered by some to be act almost as a recruitment tool for extremists. Recruiting new extremists puts soldiers in greater danger.

I think the CIA should be banned from using drones. The Army should be allowed to continue to use drones so long as they keep their oversight protocols (or implement improved protocols) in place. So, drones for the CIA:NO. Drones for the Army: Yes, with accountability.

On a barely related topic, I think we should get busy now, right now, to ban the use of drones by domestic law enforcement agencies.

For my money this is what I expect.
