The 12 leaders include British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

No surprises here.

And I'll bet the only person on the list who wished it was Romney making the call was Netanyahu.

Call it a hunch.

They were pretty quick to apologize to the Queen for the whole revolutionary war thing after Obama was reelected.

Wonder why they bothered to publish a partial list? If you're going to list 5 of the 12, why not just go all out and list all 12?

Good luck getting the support of the US in that one.

I'm sure it was an oversight on Obama's part. I'm equally certain it will be blown out of proportion by the American right and that will have absolutely no effect on our relations with Japan.

Japan's had 6 prime ministers in the last six years. Seems to get a new one every time it shows up in the news. No wonder Obama doesn't remember his name. :P

Kittens McSweatervest called Obama on Thursday to congratulate him and encourage him to work with Congress.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Obama rolled his eyes and thought "gee thanks, I never would have thought of that. It is a bit ironic to hear it coming from you, though."

So, saying Obama's ideas are bad (without examples, or how the alternative is better), blaming Obama for the spending when the vast majority of the deficit is due to Bush-era policies and the economic disaster that they caused, saying Democrats' ideas are bad (without giving examples or how the alternative is better), and blind Pelosi-hate.

Kind've a pathetic attempt. I'm stretching a bit when I give it a 4/10.

Officially, they're not. However, I'd like to think that Obama has at least some inkling of what the neighbours are up to and would recognize that Harper advising Obama to reach across the aisle, while steadfastly ignoring the input of the opposition in his own house and ruling from the top down, is a little unseemly.

The position of the Japanese PM has become as irrelevant and disposable as the Italian PM use to be. The leadership of Japan just shifts from one faceless, power-less, personality-less politician to another once-a-year.

Was it the .jp in the URL? Was it the obviously Japanese sounding name at the top? Explain to me what this has to do with Republicans.

Obama: Ok, I have my speed-dial list, who is the first world leader I've got to call?
Chief of Staff: That is correct. Who is your first call.
Obama: That's what I asked you, who is my first call.
Chief of Staff: The Prime Minister of Japan.
Obama: Who is the Prime Minister of Japan?

Chief of Staff. To Who, the Prime Minister of Japan ....

And so it goes and so it goes.

I really don't think a person should be allowed to run for two political offices at once. Political office is not the equivalent of a safety college. An individual should either be committed to the office or bow out.

All I am saying is that it is a good thing that Joe Who is not still PM of Canada or Canada would not be on the White House radar.

We worked hard to get back into the mind set of the White House. Some would say we sold our national soul. It took three years for Bush to return our calls--we're usually the first international visit but Bush had to go to Mexico. Also, despite tens of thousands of Canadians throwing open their homes for American refugees after the air space of the USA was shut down on September 11, 2001, we didn't get so much as a thank you from Bush although Poland was on the list of countries that did.

So here's hoping Obama will come to Ottawa and screw up downtown traffic early rather than late or not at all. We'll rename the elephant ear pastries that we call Beaver Tails, Obama Ears in his honour if he makes it by May. I promise. At least I will.

Obama's policies to date have been just slightly to the right of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. His skin tone is biggest difference between his administration and those of championed Republican heroes of yesteryear. Unless, of course, you want to call Nixon and Reagan liberal commie socialists.

From the article I can't tell if the Japanese prime minister called Obama to congratulate him. They pointedly said that all of Mr. Obama's calls were to return a congratulatory call.

Pretty much. If it isn't problems in trying to reinvigorate the stalled Japanese economy, it's a political scandal involving either a) officials linked to the Yakuza; b) coverups involving old political allies or c) a combo of both with something else that almost never happens within Japanese politics.
