(Washington Examiner)   As befits their exalted status, a TSA baglooter/groper gets a larger annual uniform allowance than a US Marine lieutenant gets...for a lifetime. I feel safer already, knowing that I'll be felt up by somebody who looks sharp   (washingtonexaminer.com) divider line 12

Yeah, I'm confused. Aren't BDUs and other uniforms provided by the government? Maybe a Marine can chime in, but it sounds like there's some anti-TSA numbers spinning here.

And as always:

If you have a problem with the TSA, the problem's solution is simple: Staff TSA with vets who are coming home. They are well-trained, they can follow rules and regulations to the letter, they usually aren't criminals, they know how to spot terrorists and for the most part, aren't entitled assholes.

The pilots that they're checking going through security have an annual uniform allowance of $0, commonly.

Something is wrong here. Guess its easy to spend money when its taxpayers'.

Why on Earth would TSA agents need anymore of a uniform than than their peers at Wal-Mart?

Uh, correct me if I'm wrong for anyone actually in the USMC, but I was talking to my recruiter and he said the marine uniform stipend was yearly. In fact, checking the Marine times standard allowance for all enlisted marines(after 3 years service) they get $583.40 yearly uniform stipend. No idea what an O-1 or O-2 would get, but the one time thing is complete BS.

Still, TSA goons do not deserve an allowance anywhere close to what serving troops get. Those are the guys that aren't even good enough to be mall cops.

I don't think a Marine lieutenant will be stuck a lieutenant for a lifetime, or even a career.

You know what you could do? You could petition your Representative to get them to change pensions for the US military to increase them.

Oh right, then you wouldn't have anything to biatch about. Can't actually fix government can we Republicans?

Officers don't get a uniform allowance. This is stupid.

You get a uniform allowance at Wal-Mart?

And think about it. You work five days a week, having to touch other people and other people's things on a consistent basis. And a little secret: A lot of people are FARKING DISGUSTING.

10 pairs of pants at 35-50 a piece, plus uniform shirts between 25-50 apiece, undershirts, comfortable shoes... it adds up.

This is dumb. Lieutenant perks are almost intentionally low and are expected to purchase alot of their uniforms/equipment out of pocket. Enlisted have higher uniform allowance as it is not expected and is often discouraged for them to being purchasing items out of pocket.

Being a lieutenant is kind of like paying your dues and figuring out what the whole military culture is about. It's not expected to be taken care of. It's part of the weeding out process.
