Idris Elba would have shaken the Bond character to it's core. Though it would be awesome because he is a great actor. The rest of those were completely "meh".

Mel Gibson? Only if he was never sent to Israel for a mission

2012-11-10 01:51:07 PM
Clive Owen's name was thrown around before Craig was picked. He would've done well, I think. Also Dougray Scott, the villain in Mission Impossible 2.

GGracie: Mel Gibson? Only if he was never sent to Israel for a mission

And if Bond never had to get anything off the top shelf.

Adam West would have been AWESOME!

God donut, just change the Entertainment tab to the Bond tab already.

As much as I like the idea of casting Idris Elba as the first black James Bond, I would've gone with...

... Colin Salmon, who played M16 Deputy Chief of Staff Charles Robinson in the last three Brosnan Bond movies.

Actually, I thought most of them would have done a good job. Casting a black Bond doesn't make sense.

/there are no black people in the UK

So bond drinks beer now instead of martinis, to make him more appealing to modern american hipsters.......

Oh fark you Hollywood, just, fark you.

I just got back from "Skyfall". It is awesome; you should go see it.

John Buck 41: Clive Owen's name was thrown around before Craig was picked. He would've done well, I think. Also Dougray Scott, the villain in Mission Impossible 2.

Dougray Scott was supposed to play Wolverine in the first X-Men movie. But the shooting schedule on Mission Impossible ran long and he couldn't get away in time. So Hugh Jackman was flown in at the last minute. There was barely enough time to fit him with fake sideburns.

2012-11-10 02:16:28 PM
Idris Elba: Could STILL happen, folks.

James Purefoy: Great actor. This might have worked.

Sam Neil: Whoa...No. Would have been the oddest Bond ever.

Adam West: No. Not even as a spoof.

Mel Gibson: No.

Richard Burton: Possibly.

Cary Grant: No.

Michael Billington: Hard to say. Barely made an impression in "The Spy Who Loved Me".

James Brolin: Bwahahahahahaha....No.

Hugh Jackman: Definitely not.

It sure was. Arguably better than even "Casino Royale", IMHO.

Owen would have been excellent. As much as I admire Scott, his performances aren't quite as consistent(See Hitman, Perfect Creature). I WILL say that Scott would have been an infinite improvement over Dalton.

This one got me. Would have been interesting.

John Buck 41: Clive Owen's name was thrown around before Craig was picked. He would've done well, I think.

Yeah, but if Clive Owen had been chosen, we sure wouldn't have gotten the glorious Shoot 'Em Up.

/that's not sarcasm, the movie is actually really over-the-top good

He drinks beer in addition to martinis, or bourbon, or whatever else is available which contains alcohol.

His martini in Skyfall is indeed shaken.

2012-11-10 02:34:44 PM
Although Grant would have brought some good swagger to Bond, I'm glad it didn't happen.

Some of the others.... eh, I'm not sure.

If they had picked Gibson, I think the movies would have stopped.

2012-11-10 02:44:32 PM
No John Leguizamo? Fail.

And if we are talking black actors, the only real answer is Chiwetel Ejiofor. He would be awesome.

Thank you. I've been saying that guy's name for years now. Even at 50, he can still pull off the look easily.

I could see Tim Roth as Bond - not an obvious choice, but he can be arse-puckeringly scary and as smooth as a shaven polar bear on ice at the same time.

Quite right. I don't doubt that he could do it.

At least bring him back to the franchise in some manner, anyway.

He only drinks beer when he's unshaven, bummed out and hanging out in some third-world shiathole. Much like a typical Farker. He drinks Martinis when he's in black tie and suave...

/like me on Orchestra nights...
//the movie kinda reinforces how prole beer is

What about this guy?

Sam Neill would've been pretty great, I think. He's can do a little bit scary/creepy, but still suave. Too bad it never happened.

He wouldn't be available to play Bond what with him being kept as my love slave. And yes, he does ooze menace. Trouble is he makes such a great villain.

It could have made sense if it was established that James Bond was a pseudonym for all 007's. SPOILER - In Skyfall, how cool would it have been when Bond got in the Goldfinger era Aston Martin and M asks where he got that from, Bond answering back "From one of my predecessors.".

IMHO, James Bond should always be played by a Brit.

Those choices aren't British, let alone English. According to reports, Robert Pattinson is a lock to be Bond after Craig is done.

/peels out like Jimmy Johnson.

Adam West seems like a crazy choice, but remember just how unbelievably campy all the Roger Moore flicks were. So great but so, so, so silly!

Fortunately, my brain is so hardwired for traditional Bond details that even if he lifts a keg of Dutch ditch juice to his lips and starts to wharrgarbl it, I'll still see him drinking a vodka martini.

Only way Pattinson gets to be Bond is if the producers smoked all the crack in California.

The man is as menacing as two hour old kitten.

This is probably going to be an unpopular idea but hear me out, I actually think Zac Efron would make a great Bond. Before you say anything...the guy has come a long way since High School Musical, check out The Lucky One. He's not a kid anymore and I think he actually has the right look to pull it off. Second choice would be Paul Ryan.

Um, no. Efron? Read the above comment "The man is as menacing as two hour old kitten-----good one by the way."...I never liked Pierce Brosnan as Bond, but he's a better Bond than Efron.

And yes, Idris would be an excellent Bond. Bond is not a single person after all. He's an assumed identity like M.

Something like this HAS been addressed, incidentally...

Zac Efron wants to play a James Bond villain in "Dr. No Staying Out Past Your Curfew"

Jason Isaacs.

Has the cool suaveness, as well as the cold ruthlessness that is bond.
