Resign because of an affair? Ask the Secretary of State's husband about that.

"General David Petraeus, the CIA Director, has resigned from the administration."
The CIA is part of the Administration?

"The fact that the most respected soldier of his generation, Petraeus, would be leaving the administration during an Obama second term, had to be known by the White House prior to the election."

Yes because they planed for him to have an affair with his biographer (totally out of character, by all reports) so that he could be forced to resign just before testifying about something that hadn't happened yet.
Okay then.

I still don't understand what those nutbags' point about Benghazi is. The only thing I can see is that they claim the Obama administration lied about knowing it was a terrorist attack instead of a reaction to the Islam video.

So? What would be different if they'd called it a terrorist attack right away?

It's devolved a little from there. They think Obama had I live HD feed from the consulate (they insist on calling embassy, btw) on the 65" big screen in the White House while eating popcorn and laughing as they watched them die. And something about having a Seal team just around the corner and ordering them to stand down rather than defend the 'embassy'.

Trickle down economics didn't work, so lets try it harder.
Looking for a Benghazi scandal didn't work, so lets try it harder.

Its time for some new strategery, gop.

Well, that part is actually true. Obama has Bill on hand for that sort of thing all the time, Really livens up the situation room when things get too stressful.

It's nothing. They were desperately hoping that Benghazi would be Obama's Iranian hostage crisis, and they've resorted to making as much smoke as they can to try to convince people there's a fire. It doesn't matter to them at all that there's very little the administration could have done better - all they care about is planting the "Benghazi, therefore Obama bad" thought in the mouthbreathers' heads.

Because Obama hates America.

The issue is where the stand-down order came from. Petraeus was already on record saying it didn't come from the CIA, but he so far hadn't clarified beyond that. I don't understand why the resignation precludes him from testifying.

And I'm sure those terrorists were just A-OK With that video. Never factored into their desire to launch an attack and kill Americans.

I.don't understand it either, but I consider myself rational.

Benghazi may fade slightly, but you and I both know general Obama derangement syndrome is going to avalanche from here. It's the only downside to an Obama victory - there's a whole cottage industry of Obama hate, manufacturing tenuous links to reality but using all the right Pavlovian keywords to sell well.

/yes, I used the Republican pundit favorite "derangement syndrome" because that's what they accused me of when I thought the war in Iraq didn't smell right

It's not a big deal. NPR was saying that there were reports that Obama told him he didn't need to resign over it, but Petreus insisted that he didn't have the moral authority to lead anymore.

Sounds like a sad story all around.

I have a naive hope that since Obama isn't going to be running again, they might call off their dogs just a little. I know, naive.

Do I even need to read this article? Or can I just play word scramble with transcripts from Fox News Benghazi Channel and insert the word "Petraeus" at random intervals to achieve the same basic content?

Had so much stupidity not been slogged about Benghazi over the past few months, this resignation might have the chance to be analyzed with some honesty. Instead, conservatives have spoiled the milk to such a degree already that any attempt to get to the bottom of the story is completely derailed before the question can even be asked.

Conservative Politics Instruction Manual, page 01:
1) Extend leg to expose foot
2) Aim with firearm of choice
3) Pull trigger.
4) Blame liberals.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Breitbart is usually a respected news provider, but has missed the mark terribly on this one.

It's obvious to anyone paying attention: Clinton, Geithner and Panetta are out. Now, Petreus. The purging of whites from government has begun.

2012-11-10 09:56:20 AM
I respect Gen. Petraeus in the same way I do Gen. Powell, Gen. Zinni, Col. Hackworth, and a handful of others. They brought intelligence and honor to their service in uniform and in performance of their duties to this country.

All of them have/had flaws. What Gen. Petraeus did was inexcusable and he resigns in disgrace. Hopefully, he'll write a few books and focus on policy goals at some think tank that can counter the other think tanks that have their heads up their asses.

For anyone to use this event to spin some wild conspiracy theory? Wow. Grow up. Stop pissing on the corpses of Libya and MoveOn.org with your life.

I'm not fully versed in this, but I don't think there is a "You resigned after being caught cheating" exemption from testifying before Congress.

2012-11-10 10:01:12 AM
You'd think with how hard the GOP has raped those corpses there wouldn't be anything left by this point.

2012-11-10 10:05:29 AM
So let me get this straight. The author is claiming that resigning your position will nullify a Congressional subpoena?

That sure is news to me.

2012-11-10 10:06:42 AM
So wait, President Obama forced Gen. Petraeus's penis into another woman's vagina to keep him from testifying before Congress? That's what they actually believe?

That's a level of psychosis that only a permanent Thorazine drip can fix.

2012-11-10 10:07:35 AM
So do these people honestly think that because he resigned, he can't be compelled to testify?

They really, really don't understand how the world actually works. It's f*cking amazing.

Beat me to it.

I am shocked that Petraeus resigned over this, and if this really is the full story, the man has more integrity than I do, that's for certain.

That the right wing is harping on this so much suggests that this is what the feel is their best criticism of Obama. And that's pretty sad. Might as well try and blame him for not protecting Batman movies from lunatics as well, that too happened under his watch. Seriously, that wouldn't be any more of a stretch than this crap is.
