As far as the photo is concerned most of its "impact" is its post-processing so maybe I need to take note of the formula for what's trending:

1- Underexpose by a stop then another frame correctly exposed
2- HDR the bejeezus out of both.
3- Sharpen that biatch til them pixels bleed.
4- Profit!

Personally I think it's because humans are intelligent (mostly) and are capable of making choices. Animals can't understand WTF humans are doing to them and are powerless against us.

Also, a lot of people are dicks. Some animals too, but not really by choice the way people are.
