So why isn't it Marxisim when I have to pay taxes?

IIRC, 18% of the taxpayers are already paying 38% of the taxes. How are they not paying their "fair share" already?

How are they misleading? They are pretty basic?

Also, speaking of misleading...this headline. Dumbmitter evidently didn't read the article.

If the tax cuts are extended to EVERYONE...This means the poor, poor, pitiful poor AND the evil rich, the growth is 1.5%
If the tax cuts are extended only to the poor, poor, pitiful, poor, and allowed to increase on the evil rich, the grown is 1.25%

It's actually WORSE to tax the evil rich more.

Call me when they don't control +50% of the annual income or +90% of the overall wealth. Pay taxes according to your net income, not your percentage of the populace.

If 100 million people are paid $1 a year and 1 person is paid 100 million a year and has an equal amount in the bank, is it fair to ask that 1 person to pay most of the taxes? He's only .000001% of the population so it sounds to me like there's a ton of freeloaders. Nevermind the crushing income disparity, those are just figures meant to confuse you.

Just as a baseline figure the rich should pay a percentage amount in taxes based on the percentage amount of income and wealth they acquire through the economy. If they want lower taxes, they should ensure that other people make higher income.

Why should the wealthy pay a higher percentage than everyone else? Are they less entitled to their income than everyone else simply because they make more?

They pay the exact same rate on investment income as everyone else. Just because you have no investments, doesn't mean that they pay a lower rate.

Different rates on income / investments, how do they work?

You could read Adam Smith's the Wealth of Nations to get a start on why your understanding of economics is so ridiculously poor. He explains why diminishing marginal utility translates into a progressive tax structure and that is why that structure has been adopted by every single western nation on the planet.

But you aren't interested in learning are you? You're desperately trying to protect yourself from the admission that you're completely wrong. Again.

So the CBO study is incorrect? Raising taxes on the wealthy actually isn't a negative thing because Adam Smith said it wasn't? Not sure what you're arguing against.

It's not the same though. Investments involve risk, so there is a higher reward...just like mos things with greater risk. Also, investments are desired because they grow businesses etc. The lower tax rate is an incentive to invest.

So, let's review...higher risk + incentive for investing = lower tax rates.

You think that they should be the same rate when the two different things (salary income / investment income) are so fundamentally different?

It's not envy. The richest have more avenues for them to park their money and get out of paying taxes. They also have just as much to lose as everyone else if the middle class is taxed to the point that they don't drive the economy like they need to. The whole "envy" thing is really old and played out. And the sad part is that people like you are probably the same people who are shilling for the 1% against their own interests.

Ability? The people with ability are engineers, teachers, even some doctors. The richest people in the country with some exceptions are those who were born into it. You can make plenty of arguments about not asking the richest people to pay their fair share but don't bring "ability" into it.

I'm not shilling for anyone. I just don't see the moral, or rational, justification for taking more from certain people just because they have more. I simply fail to grasp the communist principles of wealth redistribution that you evidently embrace.

There's only a finite amount of wealth in the world, so yeah, whenever someone "earns" more and holds it, that means there is less for the rest of us to have.

This isn't like school where everyone has a chance to earn an A. In fact, in school, if two people work equally hard and one earns an A and one earns a B, is THAT fair?

That's a quote from your hero Karl Marx. The "ability" in his famous quote didn't refer to occupation, it referred to ability to pay. As in having the ability to pay for something. He thought that those with a great deal of ability (wealth / resources) should be forced by the government to give it to those who didn't possess wealth or resources. Wealth redistribution. "Spreading the wealth around" as Obama puts it.
