I still think Tim Hortons have the best doughnuts. Their old-fashioned plain doughnuts are soooo good! And Timbits are little balls of heaven! A little bit of Tim in every bit!

Schuler's bakery in Springfield, OH. Their whole wheat donuts are incredible. Crunchy, moist cake in the middle, mixture of cinnamon other spices, covered in glaze for just a touch of sweetness. And these things will last for a week and be almost as good as the day they were bought. The crust and the glaze really help keep the moisture in the middle.

That's them on the top shelf. Below them are the classic glazed, and they're also quite good for a plain glazed.

I'd like to try a not so sweet, but more salty doughnut cooked in duck fat. The toppings could be crispy pancetta, artichokes and it could be filled with a light amount of blue cheese crumbles, or just worked into the dough.

What's the difference between a bartender and a toilet seat? A toilet seat only has to deal with one asshole at a time.

I knew a guy from New Orleans. He was a real jerk so we started calling him Snoopy.

Donut Joe's in Pelham, AL makes a maple-glazed donut with bacon on top that reminds me of eating pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. He only makes them on Saturdays, and you have to get there early or they'll all be gone.

We have a cider mill that boils donuts in fresh apple cider. Probably not the best but an interesting mild donut...

I bought a donut, and they gave me a receipt. When will I ever need to prove I bought a donut? Some skeptical friend: "Hey man! Don't you even act like I didn't buy this donut! I have the receipt... damn ... I forgot it... at home... in the filing cabinet... under D... for donut."

There's Always A Bloody Ghost: I still think Tim Hortons have the best doughnuts. Their old-fashioned plain doughnuts are soooo good! And Timbits are little balls of heaven! A little bit of Tim in every bit!

I got a box that contained a few half-cooked Timbits once. They were so foul.

Timmy's sour cream donuts are pretty good though, and nobody I know aside from myself likes them, so they're never out of stock. They're best purchased in the evening, when they've been sitting out all day and are starting to dry out and get crunchy...

They hit only a few of the fresh homemade donuts joints here in the area.
That article was poolry written.
They skipped a few of the better places and went with their snobbish nepotontic stand bys.
That is what sucks about the culinary scene in Burlington. You got 4 or five writers on the limited media they do have, spattering drool over copy about things they know nothing about and need to STFU about. Hopefully, they will die off soon, and we can get some good copywriters on the foodie wagon up here.
Jesus, and if you want good food and you're in Burlington, Vermont, just drive north for 1 hour and 55 minutes. and get out of your car. it's liek going to a foreign country the food is so good.
What a shaithole, with the Al's French Frys crowd, slathering over greasy, limp, hand cut, and friend in canola oil worms.
You gotta drive Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out into the country in Vermont to find the little places that cater to the international ski crowds to find decent food.

Like the Belfry in Montgomery.
steak au poivre ftw

sadly the DDs in my area don't even make/sell the original dunking donut with the lil handle on it. and the nice dense cruller that was from the same batter is now a half-hearted sadness called a donut stick. piss me off. DD is way too busy making all sorts of hot sammiches, egg white whatevers and soside mcsnausage limited time only specials these days. i miss when you could sit at the counter for hours, slap back mug after mug of tasty joe, eat simple donuts and smoke pack after pack of unfiltereds. getting old is highly over rated.

No offense, but Tim Hortons doughnuts are terrible. With the major expansion of Tims, I think most Canadians have forgotten what real doughnuts taste like.

Doughnuts are not meant to be par-baked in a factory, flash-frozen, then shipped to a store where they finish baking from frozen. They were much better before, when they were at least fried in the stores.

They should be fried in oil or lard, not pulled out of the freezer and warmed up in a toaster oven.
