I liked the article because it highlighted the false assumptions on both sides, as well as the false claims made during the campaigns. Excellent sentence to close the article, IMHO.

Romney didn't lose because he lied through his teeth every single day of his campaign, he lost because he started to believe his own lies.

"There's nothing worse than when you think you're going to win, and you don't," a Romney adviser tells Crawford. "It was like a sucker punch." But when the punch comes from ignored reality, you're not just the sucker. You're the one who suckered yourself.

This is why I left the republican party in 2003, the wilful ignorance at the core of the party and LACK of cognitive dissonance despite all the grounds for it. Romney just personified all the negative qualities the Republicans exemplify and espouse. His blistering storm of lies will go down in history just as Bush's Rovian manipulation of the national and global community will...

I'm frankly amazed that the Romney campaign apparently didn't recognize their long odds going into the election. I understand average Romney supporters and even ground-level campaign workers being fleeced by their own unrealistic perspectives. But I truly thought that his top-level people would have recognized what was going on and prepared themselves and their candidate for the possibility of losing.

Your Zionist Leader: No, they're saying that the more honest candidate won. I think it's actually math that won

Math was the only real truth that I saw and in the interest of "fairness" a lot of bad math was included that should have been just ignored completely. All the "fact-checking" articles I read were extremely careful to make sure they could find some sort of half-truth or exaggeration from Obama's camp to balance every outright lie from Team Romney. Even the debate coverage from the "liberal" media gave Romney points for "performance" and attitude while pointedly avoiding mentioning his complete reversal on basically every stance he had previously taken.

Truth was not a winner in this election. It was a bystander.

Some. Some have accepted they were duped but they don't know any other way to get info. Most of the Texans I know that have recovered enough to talk about the election are thinking they weren't duped but "millions" of Republicans decided not vote and it's all THEIR fault, the rinos. As I said a few weeks before the election, it was theirs to lose...and they lost big time. They believed their own spinmeisters and just HAD to pander to the hard-right ultranationalist fringies, god-botherers and rape-freaks. And they had to follow the extremists already in office who wanted to ensure Obama was a one-term president by being as obstructionist and mean as they possibly could. If they'd compromised on the budget or shown themselves to be willing to meet Obama halfway ANY TIME during the last year, they'd have been heroes. He wouldn't have had anything to attack them on. But they couldn't unbend enough to do that, because it would have meant--in their minds--looking bad to somebody or other.

When compromise becomes a dirty word, then you put yourself in the untenable position of never compromising; and then you look bad to everyone. If the GOP had compromised, they would have won the center they needed to win this election. But they couldn't, because they convinced themselves that would be BAD...and it was. For them. Now if they can abandon the freak-show that the Tea Party has become, they could return to a little more centrist position and probably win back their place. Who else can the Teahadists vote for? They sure won't be voting Democrat anytime soon! But we'll have to see if that occurs to the Republicans.

Republicans are a classic example of Capitalism run amuck. Capitalism without any accountability.
