Waldo Pepper: how can battery sales be down with pretty much everything taking batteries.

Rechargeable batteries, better efficiency on battery power. Plus a lot of people probably just buy the cheap store brand batteries now.

I thought Energizer would power through this downturn.

Its been my experience that Energizer alkaline batteries tend to leak a lot more when dead and their NiMH batteries have a much higher self discharge rate and don't take nearly as many charge cycles before going bad compared to their competitors. I find Rayovac to be the most dependable, having never thrown one away that was less than seven years old. Tenergy is the best bang for the buck if you buy enough to make the most of their shipping rates.

/Anal about this shiat and have date coded all of my rechargeable batteries since 2001.
//Had a bunch of D size Energizer Alkalines leak all over inside my 4-battery maglite despite still having enough voltage to give me some light.

When did Energizer get into the personal hygiene business again? They own Banana Boat and Schick?!

How do you have negative sales? More people returning your product than product flying off the shelf?

Hmm...let's see...I can get an 8 pack of Panasonic or Rayovac or Everready (cheapo Energizer brand) or whatever the grocery store has on special that week for $2.49 or less. An 8 pack of actual Energizer batteries....$5+. Which do I buy? Do the lesser brands work any worse? Not from my experience. But yeah, I'm betting most people don't use that many throw-away batteries anymore to begin with. I use rechargables for my beard trimmer and things like that, and all my other stuff has built-in batteries.
