I don't know. Sure UCLA has a lot of new talent coming in, but it just way to early to call them good.

The Clip's have a real point guard and the Laker's don't. If Steve Nash was black he would never have been considered one of the elite players in the league and he damn sure wouldn't have any MVP trophy's.

Good thing you posted, this thread would probably have been pretty dead otherwise

As for the Clippers, maybe have more than one year of relevance out of the last 20 and people will care.

Straight from the trolls mouth folks. You heard it here first. Steve Nash is garbage and anyone who averages a full season with 18.8 points, 10.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game OR 18.6 points , 11.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in the NBA while being 6'3 and taking your team near single handedly to the CONFERENCE finals two years in a row is not elite. In fact its pretty average.

So lets see how many other people were able to achieve these pedestrian stats two years in a row...

I assume you're doing this for effect, but yeah, those Suns teams had a lot of talented players. Which Robert Sarver then kicked the f*ck out because he doesn't want to pay for talented teams.

What really amazes me is the logic behind these owners. They spend DECADES trying to get their teams to be relevant and exciting...hoping to someday get to the finals ( or be damn close) and to have the type of superstars that draw in butts in the seats and jerseys on the backs. THEN when they DO have that situation in their hands. They get angry they have to pay the players more than league minimum. It befuddles me every time. Then you watch them destroy the team and flounder for another decade while reliving the past glory they never wanted to pay for in the first place. Its not just basketball either. you see it in nearly every sport that has one of "those" owners who just cant seem to get it together.

Then they have the nerve to tell you they just want to win, that owning the team is an ego thing and not a business.. yeah right.

It's why I liked George Steinbrenner - he was one of the last to stick to the idea that owning a franchise was about ego gratification instead of trying to pretend it was a viable business. For everything people hate about him, motherf*cker wanted to win and would do what it took to make it happen.

Well how about that. Guess I forgot about it since they were under .500 the next year. Sorry Clippers, you've had a few seasons of relevance in the last 20 years, immediately followed by irrelevance again.

I like watching the Clippers, they are pretty good this year. If the Lakers don't get their shiat together maybe the Clippers can sneak into that 3 spot in the West.

I wouldn't necessarily rule out Phil Jackson walking through that door.

Getting the hook 5 games into the season is tough, but it couldn't have been Xs & Os. I have read on Laker BBS sites accounts of people being at the games a few rows behind the bench, & the general consensus was that Mike Brown had ZERO respect from the players. Not listening, scowls, body language...just completely aloof during timeouts...he had lost the team. You just can't recover from that on a team with big personalities like the Lakers have. He's a nice guy & all, but that shiat don't play when you're playing with Jerry Buss's money.

They shouldn't have. They should have never hired him. What system do you think he established? He started a new offense with 2/5 new starters. Now is the time to get rid of him, early on.

Yeah of course. But I don't have the health problems Jackson does, which was why he quit in the first place right? Maybe they'll let him coach only home games till the playoffs or something, but unless the year off really solved his health problems, I don't think he's coming back.

And they need someone big...they can't just go with whatever assistant coach. They need someone that group is going to respect and who is going to be able to whip then into championship form within 2 years, because that's about the size of their window with that group.

So who is that? Not Bickerstaff, that's for sure. Coach K? I could see him being able to do it, but willing I doubt. I just don't see where they go from here.

You get Jackson to finish off this year, then you throw so much money at Coach K that he can't turn it down. Last time they tried was 8 years ago. Since then he's coached 2 Olympic teams and bonded with some of these players. Maybe his attitude is changed. Maybe he's ready to not have to deal with developing and recruiting new players every year. Hard to say, but he's definitely the future target if I'm GM.

@MagicInsider
Former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy called the Lakers' firing of Mike Brown, "the most ridiculous firing in the history of the NBA."

I also asked Stan Van Gundy if he would be available for Lakers' job, he joked, "I'm sure I'm at the top of their list."

haha, if it did happen though, oh god

So since it's not greenlit yet-

Obvious replacements - Phil Jackson, Mike Krzyzewski

Not-obvious potential replacement if both of those turn it down - Mike D'Antoni. Think about it - he was an assistant coach with USA Basketball. He already has a decent relationship with Kobe - I mean, Kobe wore No. 8 because D'Antoni was his favorite player growing up in Italy. He already has a good relationship with Nash. And I'm pretty sure he's not doing anything of importance.

Just need to have a good defensive assistant coach.

So Mike Brown can be coach of the year with LeBron James, but gets fired as the coach of three players who, collectively, are better than LeBron James.

What does this say about LeBron, Mike Brown and let's say... Kobe Bryant.

Discuss.

But really, they could kidnap Jerry Sloan, bring in Mike Dunleavy, or just put a Fathead sticker of Phil Jackson in his big chair, anything is better than Mike Brown as head coach. Guy is completely clueless, and maybe this plus the Bynum trade is a sign that Jimmy Buss is getting smarter. Or that Jerry and Jeanie are beating him into submission.
