The All-Powerful Atheismo: TripSixes: I'd like to add Amelie to the overrated list.

I hope you suffocate while trapped in a barrel full of fat lithuanian midgets.

Would be better then that movie was.

The 1989 Batman movie is overrated? Don't people have to like the movie to think it is overrated?

That was some professional level trolling.

my fave:

26. Sci-fi movie: 2001: A Space Odyssey | Serenity (But you have to see the entire season of Firefly on DVD before watching Serenity.)

Rapmaster2000: Mugato: yves0010: Star Wars happens in the past (A long long time ago). Therefore, can not be Sci-Fi.

I realize that Star Wars has fantasy elements and the whole "hero's journey" that is common to fantasy, I took all the classes. But it's not also sci-fi because of the tag line that it was "a long time ago"? Sci-fi is usually about the implications of new technology on the world. The death star was new technology, a station that could destroy a planet. And it was about how they used that technology. And primitive ewoks vs the technologically superior Empire, that kind of stuff is all over sci-fi. So yeah, I'd say that Star Wars is as much sci-fi as it is fantasy.

That was generous. I would have said .

KatjaMouse: Mighty Taternuts: Rope is an amazing piece of film.

Even though I have seen it a half dozen times I still get goosebumps.

Now I've only seen it once so you may be better at answering this than me. Was it done in a single take or was it done in a nearly single take?

The takes were as long as a camera could film back then, about 10 minutes. But Hitchcock did most of the cuts in a very smooth manner so one wouldn't notice most of them, and the movie itself runs in "real time".

Great flick.

The nearly plotless Caddyshack hasn't aged well and is not as funny as you remember.

Red Dawn is only good because it's so bad. Let's be patriotic and blow up some Ruskies!
Dr. Strangelove is funny, thought provoking and brilliant.

You're thinking of Red Dawn as a teenager, as a rah-rah action film. Think of it as a dramatic tragedy and it goes pretty deep in to the thought provoking and brilliant.

It's even funnier as a dramatic tragedy.

KatjaMouse: Moulin Rouge

Is there a shot in that movie that lasts more than 2 seconds? It near gave me a seizure.

WhippingBoy: While I agree with some of the choices, the author is clearly trying to distinguish himself by "going against the great unwashed".

I bet I've never heard of any of the bands he listens to.

He put "Fox and the Hound" in the "underrated" column. He's just a putz.

2. Movie about fraternities: Animal House | PCU (I hesitate to include these two together simply because the criminally overhyped John Belushi shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as comic genius Jeremy Piven.)

I should have stopped reading there.

4. John Wayne movie: The Searchers | Big Jake (Don't get me wrong: The Searchers is a great movie. But it doesn't have quite the depth that the critics and fans claim. Both of these films are about the search for a kidnapped family member but Big Jake has two things missing from The Searchers: love and genuine humor.)

Big Jake also has a delightful casual racism. His Native American friend is killed in the big shoot-out and nobody mentions it as they walk away smiling.
