Fluid:

Being given a 9 year old sounds like pretty lousy compensation, in any case.

She should be at least 14. But definitely not a virgin: if she's not good enough for her own family what good could she be? I don't want the Boobless Prize.

What a 9 year old girl being taken into sex slavery may look like.

[www.indiewire.com image 680x478]

and my wife pretty much stopped watching the show.

What show is that, if you don't mind? I can't place it. And one of the episodes of Elfen Lied (anime) has a father sexually abusing his daughter- not even part of a plot line (as far as I could tell - I walked out of the room after that and refused to watch more)- it was just a random scene. Like WTF? Japan, I know you're weird, but that's farked up.

Yea, I want to travel the world someday; cliche, I know. But any place in the Middle East? Hell no. It would be difficult to pass off as a man, and lord knows I wouldn't want to be caught doing that because I am sure that it would be breaking some sort of local law. Pakistan? Iran? Um, no. Couldn't pay me enough.

"Copper" on BBC America. The girl plays a seriously farked-up street whore; emotionally damaged. I hope that the girl they have playing here is a more mature teen who can 'play' adolescent.

That show is amazing.

Been a long time since I saw the show, but I recall parental abuse being part of the tragic backstory for one of the characters.

This being Fark and all, my first thought was, "Dear Lord, no." Whatever that man did, no one should be forced deal with the screaming, pouting, and sparkly-pink shiat that are standard equipment on a 9 year old girl.

I'm so going to hell.

Fish in a Barrel: Last week a couple in Pakistan-administered Kashmir killed their 15-year-old daughter by dousing her with acid for supposedly shaming the family by looking at two boys.

What. The. fark.

It was a very naughty look.

re: child 'brides'
''Girls under 15 are five times more likely to die in childbirth than women in their 20s, and girls age 15-18 are twice as likely to die, the U.N. study found. The children of girl brides are 60 percent more likely to die by their first birthday than children with mothers over age 19.

"Let us help those who are already married to lead more fulfilling lives. All members of society will benefit when we let girls be girls, not brides," said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.''

No.

Religious people don't seem to care for their young the way we do. It's sad but true.

I believe the band in question is called "Amon Amarth."

The whole article is screwed up glad the elders were arrested.

but this is the most screwed up bit :
"Last week a couple in Pakistan-administered Kashmir killed their 15-year-old daughter by dousing her with acid for supposedly shaming the family by looking at two boys."

Just looking is shameful? either much more details are needed or her parents are farked up beyond all recognition.

It seems random at the time, but it comes into play later in the serious. Granted, Elfen Lied is a pretty messed up show, but it all comes together eventually. Digging into the show, it's all about what makes a 'monster'. The humans are routinely depicted as being far more cruel and vindictive than the Diclonus. Hell, the lead scientist's daughter is one of the most powerful Diclonii ever (and a multiple amputee), and he keeps her locked in a steel box akin to what Akira's remains were stored in. As for the Diclonii? They just want to be accepted and loved, but the actions of the Humans pretty much make that impossible. But if you want really farked up, read the manga. The ending is considerably more... horrific. Lucy essentially sets out to genocide the planet.

It's painful to watch, but I would encourage you to sit through the whole series. It's only slightly more messed up than Eva.

\My problem with the show is the radical swings in tone (both musically and graphically) from scene to scene.

In other news, newspapers in the United Arab Emirates think child sex slavery stories belong in the "offbeat, crazy world" column.

Elfen Lied is SUPPOSED to make you feel uncomfortable. Before anybody knew anything about the Diclonii, They were bullied as children for being different (pink hair and horns kinda stands out). Lucy might have grown up to be a well-adjusted member of society, if she hadn't been forced to watch while other kids brutally murdered her dog. After her revenge massacre, it's just assumed that they're here to destroy the human race, and are all subjected to horrific experiments, so I can't blame them in the slightest when they fight back.

/if a show upsets your sensibilities, maybe you should analyze the reasons it upset you

I'm a man and not Islamic, and my heart weeps when I read these stories. I don't know a lot about Islam, but I believe that these actions would be classified as un-Islamic. These men are pigs, pure and simple.

If you are a man and you want to do something about this, then thank the women at home and in your workplace for adding compassion to your lives. Grant them the same freedoms that we would give men, and love them as sisters, friends and mothers.

/sorry for the serious post
