I'm pretty sure I had West Nile at the end of September. For starters, I think it progressed in me because I was exercising too much during a certain time-frame (the weather was really nice). If I hadn't been doing that, I'm confident I would have been in the 90% who experience no symptoms.

Second, I distinctly remember getting one particular mosquito bite on my ankle that itched like crazy, way more than the average bite. I didn't think much of it at the time, but thought that was interesting later.

The virus is much more potent in the fall, so if it is in your area at the end of next summer 1.) Don't exercise and wear yourself out and 2.) Don't over-do it any other way. If you follow that simple advice you'll probably be alright, whether it's the new-and-improved West Nile or not. The first wave of symptom that hit me included extreme exhaustion, so if you start to think that you've got mono, get your ass in bed and stay there.

We lost my uncle to this a couple of months ago. He lived in a really small town here in OK (like that narrows it down) and there had been at least a few others there. A lady my mom knows got it around the same time he did and she's still recovering. They had said he had symptoms of dementia, but I can't help but think it was the encephalitis. Anyway, I'm saying that to say this: Please take it seriously and put on the damn bug spray when you go out if you're in a risk-prone area.

My father is recovering from a West Nile infection and may have permanent brain impairment and muscle damage. My neighbors brother in law has been severely affected by this virus as has a 23 year old friend of the family. This isn't a media hyped scare of the month, it is a very real threat. Be careful out there

Because the rules of grammar are that numbers under 10 should be written out in full, whilst numbers 10 and over should be written as numerals. There are some other rules for numbers, but this is the major basic one that everyone should know.

/Although technically as the 11 started a new sentence, it should have been written out "Eleven"
//As it's 11 of 12 stylistically it does look better in numerals

Totally agree. It's time for human survival to outweigh the chance of extinction of another species. Not that extinction would even be possible for those little buggers.

I had West Nile back in 2007. Pretty much started as extreme exhaustion and then, for me, a stiff neck. I only went to the doctor as I has been out of work for three days and they asked for note.

I ended up out for two months.

I still get warn down and have neck issues but mostly, sometimes I can tell my mental alertness isn't as sharp as it once was.

My doctor wrote all of my concerns off -- I don't blame him as there wasn't a lot of available data out there.

also, I work in a hospital, and have seen the effects of west Nile, it's pretty scary
