SoupJohnB: I heard some old coot interviewed on NPR this morning, who 'helpfully' explained the new GOP strategy for attracting minority voters. It was essentially, "We got to get us some candidates who look like them, but think like us!"

/not helping, dude

I thought that was the whole point of Romney's spray on tan.

Duke Slater: mgshamster: Cletus C.: Why are people so obsessed with scoreboard? All it indicates is who is a winner and who is a loser.

Because in today's sports-mentality world, the only thing that is important is whether you win or lose. Doing what is right is irrelevant, good and evil are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that you win. We worship success, even in a villain, and we demonize failure, even in a hero.

This times a million. Politics will soon be indistinguishable from Rollerball. "Kill him!!!"

An old friend of mine had a theory trying to explain why this was. He had this idea that it was based on children's cartoons. During the 80s (and before that) cartoons were about good vs evil. They were about good guys teaming up to fight bad guys, and sometimes good guys and bad guys teaming up to fight even badder guys. Then, in the 90s, all that changed. Cartoons were no longer about good vs evil, they were about competition. It didn't matter if you were good or bad, it only mattered if you won. Cartoons like pokemon and yugioh.

I don't know how much of that is true, but it's been the only explanation I've ever heard for it.

Mercutio74: Philip Francis Queeg: The eagerness with which the people who have worked with him have turned on him does seem to indicate that Rove is exactly as much of an asshole as we've always suspected.

I've seen it before. If you're making people money, you can be the biggest douche in the world and folks still love you. However, when you no longer produce, you're replaced very quickly. There is something to be said for being likeable.

theorellior: Much like Rove, Reince Preibus will probably be discovered in a cornfield dead of an unfortunate heart attack to the back of the brain.

Reince Priebus... Wasn't that the name of an early metal album?

I must have been thinking of Vincebus Eruptum. Still, how much would you have to hate your kid to give him a name like that?

-It's a family name!
-It's a fat girl's name.

Cletus C.: It doesn't take much to trigger a rant, as it turns out.

I think I'd give Karl more credit. Even to a guy like him $300,000,000 is a lot of money, so it kinda explains his ranting.

one0nine: I have to wonder if Steele and Charlie Crist might be up for some Federal-level appointments over the coming months... you know, just to grind the GOP's nose in it.

Mercutio74: Michael Farking Steele. Ever since he was escorted out of the RNC, my appreciation of him has grown immensely. I guess maybe there's something about being the chair of the RNC that makes you have to be an ignorant, duplicitous asshole.

This is what did it for me: Link. If McCain wants a popular comeback, he should do the same.

I may be mistaken, but I think it was Bill Maher's show that I heard someone say "Obama has had to be twice as good as president," -- much like Jackie Robinson had to be twice the baseball player to really tear down the color wall. And Michael Steele was on the panel.

I SOOO wanted someone to ask Michael Steele if he had to be "twice as good" when he was the RNC chairman.

/based on Tuesday's results, he probably was

Dr.Zom: That's all they've learned. Watch out for epic Hispanic butt kissing for the next four years. They think that's all they need to do. And it's all they're going to do.

George P. Bush is already setting the stage for some kind of campaign in Texas. I imagine Jeb's going to be getting lots of calls too.

It's entirely possible they threw the country just to win Wisconsin. In a few years, that will be ~10 electoral votes that will be solid Republican, because the Democratic Party's base here will be annihilated by then.
