I came to say this. And because of the way Romney cut them off without allowing them that final cab ride home, and compare that to the way Obama talked to his staff the day after the election, it's pretty clear the majority of voters made the nicer choice.

"Come on up here, Craig. Come say hi," Romney told his son. "Tell them something about your family, or about your dad, that they don't know."

Craig Romney told an odd story about a family triathlon. His father's opponent was a daughter-in-law who had just given birth to her second child.

"It was kind of in the home stretch in the run there, and she had a slight lead on him," Craig Romney recalled. "And he said that in that moment, he decided that he was going to win that race or he was going to die trying."

I've been trying to talk up ORCA as one of the primary reasons for Republican delusions of victory, but the Liberal Media seems uninterested. It's obviously the source of Rove's, Will's and Corpulent Unskewed Guy's idiotic predictions, and fits well with the micromanagement-without-results style that I just know Romney adheres to.

Not to mention that it looks great alongside all of the other tremendous wastes of money that typified the 2012 Republican election machine.

It was obvious that Republicans were in their own fact-free echo chamber, but I think it's funny that Team Romney didn't know they were losing. "We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory," said one senior adviser. "I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

Hey y'all remember when that guy Romney (i think it was) showed up in "brown face" to talk to the Latinos?
Wasn't he the same one that told a room full of wealthy black folks that he wasn't givinem no more foodstamps? or something like that. I think he's the same one that told all the victems of frankenstorm that he was against FEMA and oh here have a can of soup. I bet at least 47 percent of y'all will remember that nice video he put out....I wonder what ever happened to that nice fellow.

I got an Uncanny Valley vibe from him like the creepy kids in Polar Express, Romney just felt subtly off and non-human. It feels like there was nothing behind his eyes, a soulless political chameleon blending into whatever stage he was currently standing on.

You'll enjoy this article. Schadenfreude for breakfast, anyone? fta If you're a rank-and-file conservative, you're probably ready to acknowledge that ideologically friendly media didn't accurately inform you about Election 2012. Some pundits engaged in wishful thinking; others feigned confidence in hopes that it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; still others decided it was smart to keep telling right-leaning audiences what they wanted to hear.

But guess what?

You haven't just been misinformed about the horse race. Since the very beginning of the election cycle, conservative media has been failing you. With a few exceptions, they haven't tried to rigorously tell you the truth, or even to bring you intellectually honest opinion. What they've done instead helps to explain why the right failed to triumph in a very winnable election.

I'm pro-choice
I'm for gov't health care
I'm for Cap/Trade

Oh I'm running for pres.
Pro-life
No Gov't Health care
No Cap/Trade

All politicians do that stuff, but at least most seem to have personal convictions that may/may align with political convictions.

Mitt comes of as a robot as he has to run all of his comments through 10 layers of filters in his head before he says them. If he had the convictions they would come naturally. The problem (and why he is a bad politician) is that his filters don't work correctly.

Basically, they determined that the reason the country is so divided is not because we disagree on the issues, but rather that it is because we have different facts on what the issues even are. We quite literally live in different realities based on our informational input from the media. I blame Fox.

FTA: "For the project, Romney aides gathered about 34,000 volunteers spread across the swing states to send in information about what was happening at the polls. "The project operates via a web-based app volunteers use to relay the most up-to-date poll information to a 'national dashboard' at the Boston headquarters," said a campaign email on election eve. "From there, data will be interpreted and utilized to plan voter turnout tactics on Election Day."

LMFAO, they based their intelligence gathering on 34,000 "Romney Supporters"? Relied on a bunch of right wing blogtards to provide accurate information?

Although I consider myself relatively liberal, I was very split when I found out McCain would be running on the Republican end of things. The difference between McCain and Romney, imho, is while I don't agree with McCain on all issues, I don't think he's an asshole and I do in fact respect his opinion. Dems and Libs had a lot of respect for McCain - he was a moderate; he was an ACTUAL war hero, not some chickenhawk; he didn't think war was the answer to everything; he didn't resort to personal attacks. It was the wrong time for him to run; 8 years of shiat under Bush, young people were politically active again, people eager to be on the right side of history, he was too old, and Palin terrified everyone.

It's a goddamn shame.

If McCain was president in 2000 instead of Bush Lite, the world would be a different place today.

Seems to be a common story these last couple of days... I had an old friend from high school, who I haven't even talked to until the day after the election, go apeshiat on me on a friend's facebook page because I posted a link from factcheck.org detailing which president started the free phone for low-income citizens program after she made a remark about how "Lazy welfare" people were using their free "Obama phones" to post celebratory remarks on facebook and twitter...

I mean she went apeshiat... Facts are so infuriating to some people.

mgshamster: WienerButt: My friend of over ten years has been ignoring me since the election. He found out I didn't vote for Romney and went apeshiat. He was throwing the N word around, furious and offensive. I had never heard this from him. He had a meltdown and has been ignoring my calls and texts. We usually talk everyday and talk sports and career but so far nothing.

WTF

That's been happening all over the country. Check out this week's This American Life episode: Link

Interesting.

If you don't understand your friends' behavior, it's likely you don't know them as well as you thought you did.
All these mysterious rants and outbursts are easily explained by a common but unpopular personality trait.

The My Little Pony Killer: The only version of Mitt Romneybot that even appeared somewhat close to human was concession-speech Romney.

That was funny, wasn't it? And although I know exactly what kind of person he is, I still felt sorry for him then. You could tell that he was completely stunned and had been crying.

I heard this story on the radio, and this was the part that struck me: where they say that he failed at describing what kind of person he was, and if he did try, his examples were just not right. The Romneybot, like a lot of people have said already, has a personality disorder. These people have no freaking identity of their own, and that's why you can't just ask them what kind of person they are--they have to wait for clues from the person they're talking to, to find out what kind of person the other wants them to be. Then that's who they are. So much for "Mitt doesn't like talking about himself."

As long as they know who they're dealing with, people with personality disorders can be charming as hell. But unscripted and in front of strangers, they're a mess. They don't really have any identity of their own, and they don't know how to present themselves without preparation and knowledge of what the audience wants.

That's exactly how this story sounded to me. George Bush--same thing. The guy was just a puppet for whoever was telling him what to do, and how to think. Unscripted, (like those famous few minutes while he was reading My Pet Goat), he didn't know what to do. He literally did not know how to react to the biggest moment of his Presidency, because no one was there to tell him.

You can think that Obama is arrogant, clueless, or whatever, but you never get a sense from him that he isn't secure in his own skin.

mobile_home_refush: Hey y'all remember when that guy Romney (i think it was) showed up in "brown face" to talk to the Latinos?
Wasn't he the same one that told a room full of wealthy black folks that he wasn't givinem no more foodstamps? or something like that. I think he's the same one that told all the victems of frankenstorm that he was against FEMA and oh here have a can of soup. I bet at least 47 percent of y'all will remember that nice video he put out....I wonder what ever happened to that nice fellow.

6/10 Strong start, lousy finish,

I feel bad for you, because I know it's hard to lose a buddy, but if your friend thinks that the N-word is ever appropriate, much less to biatch about an election, maybe you need a better class of friend.

I'd bump it to an 8. It was engaging enough that I read it all the way to the end just to see where he was going with it.

Lollipop165: Kazrath: Romney lost because Republican ideology is not what people want. McCain lost for the same reason. Seriously Republicans, we don't want your brand of crazy leading the country.

Although I consider myself relatively liberal, I was very split when I found out McCain would be running on the Republican end of things. The difference between McCain and Romney, imho, is while I don't agree with McCain on all issues, I don't think he's an asshole and I do in fact respect his opinion. Until the national election, that was. Then he went all derptastic and I realized this wasn't the McCain I knew. And then he hired Palin and well, that was the end for me.

And that was my opinion of him to begin with also. The problem is each of these semi-moderate or even independentish Republican candidates sprint right to solidify their base so they can win the nomination. This makes them come across as completely two-faced hypocrites and completely turns me away from them. Romney did the same thing. His healthcare "achievement" was something positive. But because the Right-wing echo chamber hates a black president so much and anything this president does is worse than Satan, Romney had to downplay his one real achievement in the public sector.

Also, the blatant attempt at pandering to women by choosing that laughingstock Palin was really the nail in the coffin for McCain.

I will not vote for someone who is unwilling to stand behind their own actions.

Curious: ann coultere was right. although i'm not sure Christie could have got the nomination or won.

there were other screw ups. project ORCA mean anything to any of you?

Great read. Thanks.

FTA: They expected 75-80 year old veteran volunteers to print out 60+ pages on their home computers? The night before election day?

Well, I see their problem right there. Most of them died before morning.

I am in serious trouble on facebook (lulz) with some woman I have never heard of who is a friend of a friend. She has expended 10000 words to explain how I am completely terrible for calling murdouck and aken 'rapeublicans', which is apparently EXACTLY the same as shouting the N word in the street at random strangers.

Really repubs.. YOU kick there people out, and then we wont associate you with them. How bout that?

Insatiable Jesus: LMFAO, they based their intelligence gathering on 34,000 "Romney Supporters"? Relied on a bunch of right wing blogtards to provide accurate information?

"Well, in the past hour I've counted 89 black voters and 126 white voters, so...I think we're doing pretty good here!"

I think that particular situation sums up exactly what happens when a bunch of pointy-haired bosses decide they can handle everything because they're the Job Creators.

Eegah: Watch the raw video of him and Ryan order food at Wendy's on election day. It is very awkward and uncomfortable, especially when he orders a "Quarter Pounder".

I started giggling uncontrollably when he said "This has been so much fun. This is a great day". For a second I felt bad for laughing, but then I got over it.

that's really terrible. i have some religious/conservative friends, and leading up to the election i openly mocked romney on facebook and none of them commented on it. of course, i'm also a vocal atheist and my religious friends just ignore that as well. i guess they are just more mature about our differences and as long as i don't insult them personally (and i never would) they are willing to remain civil despite our political and religious disagreements. my father is also conservative and hates obama, and he just changes the subject whenever politics comes into play. he knows i'm a liberal, i know he's a conservative, so we just let bygones be bygones and don't try to argue about politics. it's a shame more people don't behave that way.
