With a nickname like "Sin City," I'd think Las Vegas would be a good place to move the industry...

I still can't believe there's still a porn industry. If I spent every waking hour of my life watching free porn on the internet (and I plan to), I couldn't get through it all. And I'm even into the weird stuff.

I think Vegas has been trying to be more family friendly in recent years, sort of like Time Square did. Of course you still can't walk two blocks without slipping on a needle and falling on a dead hooker but that's not the "official" image they want to project.

Wait wut? Vegas gave up on the "family friendly" thing almost a decade ago. And most porn is being filmed in LV (which is an easy drive from LA) or Florida these days thanks to idiotic regulations like this one. LA just screwed themselves.

It's the obvious choice now. In some form, the porn industry has been slowly moving to Las Vegas over the last few years. You would still be close to Los Angeles.

However, I think the condom controversy is overblown. Condoms are supposed to protect users from STDs and HIV and to prevent pregnancy. There has been several scares of STDs and HIV spreading throughout the porn community in the last few years and it has cause to shut down production for a while. Also if you see actors or actresses using condoms, condom use could increase from those who watch porn.

Bears repeating. When Disney/Eisner got their money out, they stopped trying to be for the fam, and cater much more to younger types. "What Happens in Vegas..." doesn't begin to suggest a family friendly atmosphere, and that's been their slogan for a decade.

Also, I lived there for 3 years and while I saw hookers (And how!), not once did I see a dead one, or any sort of intravenous drug paraphenalia, and I regularly hung out with unsavory folks. Didn't spend a lot of time around Fremont/Old Vegas though, and I was under the impression there's more of that around there. Even got to tag along with the news crew when the cops busted a couple meth labs out around Pahrump- even those guys weren't shooting up.

/dunno why I'm defending vegas, I'm glad I don't live there anymore

Hah, that's was my "Oh wait you're serious" line in that article too.

As an aside, while I'm all for safety (and I thought they had a pretty rigorous program in place for actual professionals), how can they not realize that porn is a fantasy? As in, not real? As in, I don't want to see "reality" represented. My fantasies don't have condoms in them- I'm usually focused on other stuff.

i somehow doubt LA is that worried about losing either the revenue or the "prestige" that comes with being the porn capital of the world. Besides, all they'll stop doing in LA is filming. Corporate offices, distribution, and creepy guys scamming runaways will remain right where they are now.

They wont move to Vegas because the reason they are in LA in the first place is cheap and easy access to film pros who moonlight in porn between films. Camera men, sound guys etc. They'll just move one county over. Ventura, Orange, or San Bernadino.

An unlikely option, but I would humbly offer Houston: Great weather most of the year (and you just stay indoors when it gets too hot), easy to get to thanks to Southwest Airlines, cheap to setup shop, and plenty of homes/condos/hotels/dorm rooms to choose from- especially with all those freaky geeks at Rice. Better yet, we are a bit extreme in our implementation of "live and let live". So you just scout around the country and fly them in. For homegrown, there's obviously not as many pretty blond hair-blue eye types as AZ, but we make up for it with variety. Bonus: Not as many nosy retirees or neighbors trying to look over the fence. (I used to live in Mesa; there was a reason the fences were so high.)

A dark horse among dark horses, but I'll throw it out there anyways.

Do you really think all those "amateur" videos you see on porn sites are made by real amateurs? The documentation requirements for adult videos are pretty strict and most people aren't going to distribute sex tapes of themselves on the Internet.

There are production companies that film movies and deliberately make them look like they were filmed at home or in a hotel, etc.

Why? They already take STD & HIV testing seriously. As long as the performers themselves are fine without out, why should we insist the government strap on a helmet and get in there?

I'm not bothered much that this passed, but I voted against it. If the employees being 'protected' by a measure aren't in for it I assume it's not that necessary.

Thanks for supporting the nanny state.

Porn actors and actresses know what they're getting into. They assume the risks for engaging in unsafe sex....though with their monthly testing, I'm betting it's safer sex than most single people have without condoms. In short, it's not your call and nor should it be the government's call.

Yeah, was essentially a "vote yes if you don't like porn or the thought of your teenage son having at himself" ballot measure. Californians and Angelenos can be weirdly socially conservative over random things, Pop 8 (anti-gay marriage) passed on Mormon-bankrolled adds that convinced semi-retarded voters that schools are now going to force their kids to be gay.

Yeah we get it, men don't like watching porn that includes condom because most of you secretly get off on the degradation of seeing the woman have cum shot all over her like she was a used rag.

You'll get over it.

Because it is idiotic if its a regulation that pretends porn won't be made anywhere else if there is demand.

All it does is drive away business which will be done anyway.

Seriously. That whole "family friendly" fiasco was probably the worst marketing strategy ever. First, because for every kid sitting next to mommy and daddy on an airplane flight out to vegas meant there was one less seat available for a gambler to go to vegas. Second, kids in vegas = taking mommy and daddy away from playing the slots/craps/etc. Stupid, stupid marketing move by Vegas. Not sure how they didn't figure that one out before launching that idiotic campaign. Oh, that's right.... because the decision was made by a bunch of idiotic MBA's.... (sorry for the redundancy when saying "idiotic MBA's").
