Lucky LaRue: MadHatter500: Lucky LaRue: Kibbler: ONE POINT ONE PERCENT. MY GOD.

How about before you take 1.1% of anyone's income, you stop spending public money to feed, educate, and provide medical insurance to illegal immigrants?

Ok. Hey all you illegals, please line up over here and get your naturalization. Simple process. Raise your right hand... say I agree to be a US citizen. Now please fill out your forms over on the table over there. Thank you.

Now no illegal immigrants are getting benefits. Happy?

Be as dismissive about the problem as you like, but it doesn't solve anything. You feel warm and comfortable in your smugness as you hand out money and free services to the rest of the world, but I have no doubt you will be full of concern and angst the next time the government raises defense spending.

It directly solves many problems. You are just too racist to get it. And if you would have understood a damn thing, you'd get that now all those people get to pay taxes. But I get it, they're brown and they scare you.

I only get bent about defense spending if it is for something stupid, like a second F-22 engine the military doesn't need or even want. I'd like to see vet benefits go up. I'd like to see military pay go up and at least keep pace with inflation. I'm concerned that we'll disengage too much in winding down Afghanistan. So sorry, but stay on topic or you will look stupid.

And just to head you off, yes, I do pay more in taxes than I have to. I see it as a good investment. So until you do the same, don't talk.

And if this happened there would be no implications, right? Should we even have an immigration policy? Heck, should we even have borders?

Silly Jesus: Cinaed: Taxing the rich doesn't impede economic growth. Yes it does.

Better to tax the fark out of the rich, and use that money to provide as much education as is warranted. Do you not think that the evil rich pass along the cost of their increased taxes?

Education is the driver here, not giving Mitt & Co. another tax break. Not raising taxes != tax break.

You're an idiot. Between 52 and 55 percent of the California state budget is spent on education. Unless you want to fire every CHP officer, stop paving roads, and free every prisoner in the state, if the budget isn't balanced, you have to cut education.

I will also note you couldn't name a single agency you'd like to cut ("government administration" isn't saying anything). You wouldn't happen to be Mitt Romney, would you?

No. It doesn't. There is no correlation between taxation for the upper brackets of earners and overall economic growth.
No. It's rather difficult for them to do that. Wealthy individual earners are not synonymous with 'Corporations and Businesses'. The latter actually 'can' do that when they raise the prices for the products that I inevitably purchase. What's a guy pulling down a seven plus figures a year going to do? NOT go to Aruba twice this coming year?
The GOP Presidential Campaign called for a tax break, did it not? The tax break that's about to expire is from the GOP, is it not? If I'm using your logic, taking back a tax break isn't really 'raising' taxes at all, it's just bringing everything back into it's rightful Pre-Dubya place.

Glance harder. Education has been getting cut for the past two years. So have the police, firefighters, public hospitals, mental health, prisons, forensic departments, parks, protected lands, and more. Save your liberal sneers for someone who cares. I don't live in California, and could care less if their government spends it's citizen's money on waste because they are too lazy and too stupid to fix the underlying problems.

As for Obama making it all better - you need to make a reality check. When the deal between the White House and Congress is finally hammered out, liberals are going to be really butt-hurt at how much spending is cut and how little new revenue is raised.

Lucky LaRue: Prank Call of Cthulhu: Oh no! A MASSIVE TAX HIKE!!!

Oh my god, they finally went and did it. What did they do, raise the top bracket to 50% or something?

When you stop to consider that, the only reason California is raising the rate is because they have so many social programs handing out money and free services that they are going bankrupt, it really doesn't matter if it was a 50% hike or at 0.1% hike - it is still taking money from hard-working capitalist to fund unnecessary social programs.

California taxation is death by a thousand cuts. "We're only asking for a little more!" is the cry. Year after year after year. I'm old enough to remember a 4% sales tax rate. With Prop 30, it'll be over 10% in some locales, and that STILL won't be enough. The retirement system says it's going to need $3 to $10 billion more each year to fund the retirement benefits already promised, and that assumes investment returns of 7.5%. guess what return they made last year and what they'll make in coming years when 30% of their poorfolio is in long-term bo The splat when this state hits the fiscal wall is going to be loud.

Conveniently, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released a study today showing that raising taxes on the evil rich slows the growth of the economy. Good job California.

Yeah, good on them. Since the way it works now is that an expanding economy benefits mostly the rich.

Yes, the poor that starve to death are acceptable collateral damage for sticking it to the rich.

Envy, how does it wurk? LOL!

Actually, this is great news. Seriously. Exactly according to the model.

MSFT: The ten most educated states voted for Obama while 9 of the 10 worst educated states voted for Romney.
Thoughts?

I think your smarmy attitude is a perfect example of why this phenomena occurs. Uneducated people don't like to be reminded they are dumb, and they really resent people like you - who are better off than they are - speaking to them in condescending tones about why they, their political opinions, and their values are inferior. That they stand in opposition to everything you represent shouldn't surprise you, it should make you ashamed that the kind of "help" you offer elicits that kind of reaction.

Vegan Meat Popsicle: Silly Jesus: Reading is hard. Calm down. It will all be OK.

No, I understood clearly what the CBO said: taxing the rich won't have a major impact.

You understood that too, it's just that unlike me, you decided to start lying about it because you're a terrible person on the inside.

Correct, the difference between economic growth of 1.50% and 1.25% is not huge, but the facts are that an increase in taxes on the rich results in the growth rate of 1.25% while not increasing taxes on the rich results in the LARGER growth rate of 1.50%. This goes against everything that the liberals have been saying about the importance of increasing taxes on the rich for the good of the economy. It doesn't matter how small it is when the argument from the libs has been that it's a good thing to raise the taxes. This non-partisan study showed that that is incorrect.

Letting people vote on services AND taxes doesn't make much sense. Everyone wants something for nothing.

So are you basically arguing for a flat-tax because we already 'take more from a certain group of people'... it's called our progressive tax system that has been in place for like 100 years.

Know what else was in place for like 100 years?

Really? Deflection?

Are you a flat tax advocate? Yes or no?

Someone in another thread explained things in a way that clicked. I largely understand now the reasons for a progressive tax structure. I think that a flat tax would be more "fair." But a progressive tax seems to be the best way to go practically.

CPennypacker: badaboom: pacified: So a guy making $500,000 pays $5,000 more a year. BOO FARKING HOO.

Over 26 pay checks, that amounts to $192 a pay period.

So from his $19,200 pay check, $200 more is taken.

They won't even notice.

All Republicans are a sad joke.

If only it were that simple. That guy does not take that $5000 and stuff it in his mattress. He renovates his bathroom ($$ for the plumber), he goes on vacation($$ for the baggage handlers, $$ for the hotel staff), he buys a new TV ($$ for the guy who cleans the store), or he even gives it to charity.

Actually he probably just buys stocks with it.

Which then makes stocks go up which helps the TIAA/CREF and pension funds.......

Then please display some intellectual honesty and stop using childish phrases like 'take more from a certain group of people'. We already do that, so doing is a little bit more, or the same as it was in the 90s doesn't turn us into the friggin' soviet union.
