Conveniently, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released a study today showing that raising taxes on the evil rich slows the growth of the economy. Good job California.

Oh no! A MASSIVE TAX HIKE!!!

Oh my god, they finally went and did it. What did they do, raise the top bracket to 50% or something?

The wealthiest 1% of Californians -- those with annual incomes of $533,000 or more -- will shoulder nearly 79% of the tax increase, according to the California Budget Project, a research group that endorsed the proposition. They will see their taxes rise by 1.1% of their income, while the bottom four-fifths of the state's residents will see an increase of between 0.1% and 0.2% of their incomes.

So The Kardashians and other Hollywood stars have to pay more taxes so the we don't have to cut back on education for the average Californian? So we invest in our future and chances for middle/lower classes? Why aren't we doing this in the rest of the country?

This benefits the 1% in the long run too. Now, we'll keep a middle class instead of having just rich and poor - and they won't have to build walls around their wealthy communities now to keep the starving masses out.

More like Germany, less like Brazil!

When you stop to consider that, the only reason California is raising the rate is because they have so many social programs handing out money and free services that they are going bankrupt, it really doesn't matter if it was a 50% hike or at 0.1% hike - it is still taking money from hard-working capitalist to fund unnecessary social programs.

Reading is hard. Here, let me lay out the important part of the article for you. There will be some math involved, but I will provide a key.

"The CBO said extending all of the tax cuts would boost U.S. gross domestic product growth next year by a little less than 1.5 percentage points.

If the tax rates were extended only for individuals earning less than $200,000 and couples earnings less than $250,000, CBO said, growth would rise by 1.25 percent."

KEY: 1.5% > 1.25%

Carry on, derpster.

This politicking of holding the education of our children hostage pisses me off. Why not perform major cuts in some other Bullshiat sector like I dunno government administration. Or some other nearly purposeless governmental organization. No, they go for something we actually need in hopes to lobby their support of the tax hike. Obviously you haven't been paying attention to what is going on in California. We've been experiencing spending cuts in all sectors. This tax hike is to relieve the spending cuts in education.

As someone who helps tutor fifty kids in an overcrowded classroom in California, I'd like to say FARK YOU.

California's problem is our farked up initiative system that mandates spending with 50% + 1 of the vote, while raising taxes takes a 2/3 majority. Either the margin for raising taxes needs to go down, or the margin for mandating spending needs to go up.

Cutting funding for our schools has already got me working to help pay for my tuition in addition to trying to help our farked up elementary programs. If Prop 30 hadn't passed, I'm not sure I would have been able to continue attending college.

So once more, FARK YOU.

Every time I need something done around the place that I can't do myself, I pick up the phone and call someone. Most of the time, I get a swarm of Mexicans or Chinese guys who come over, get the job done and leave. I remember when I was a kid, when my parents got a work crew over, it was a bunch of white guys who pissed away half the day running out to get cigarettes, teasing each other and calling the boss because they couldn't make a single decision on their own.

So, I'm totally OK with Mexicans, legal or not, and I am totally fine with their kids going to school.

Subby, California's highest tax bracket for individuals was $50,000. Let that sink in. $50,000. At a time when the state's budget is falling apart, we need everybody paying their fair share, including rich people.

Taxing the rich doesn't impede economic growth.

Better to tax the fark out of the rich, and use that money to provide as much education as is warranted.

Education is the driver here, not giving Mitt & Co. another tax break.

While everyone else is kicking around the economic/financial aspect of this, I direct everyone's attention to a different part of this. The CA constitution has been amended to require tax changes to go to the ballot.

Ahem. This means that CA is now starting to flirt with direct democracy. Those empty red counties in CA should be pushing a load into their pants right about... now.

Governor Moonbeam, please take a bow. This was a masterful move, and I applaud you. If this trend keeps up the CA legislature will be come ceremonial in function only.
