Dow will bounce back tomorrow and finish high as investors look for deals on the last two days largely symbolic drop. On Monday it will drop again probably for 2 or 3 days with another strong friday finish.

Alright, folks. We just kept you on the edge of your seats for a 'close' election. Sorry about that. We thought it would be a nail biter, no really.

Ok, so now that that is over OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS GONNA END. Stay tuned.

Dow futures were up on Wednesday until the Europeans opened their pie holes. The Dow has done well under Obama. Why do conservatives think he was just elected for the first time?

If by "congress" you mean the Democrat controlled senate and executive branch, then you are right on the money. The conservatives in the House did everything in their power to avert the travesty that the liberals foisted on our economy last year, and they'll do everything they can this time around.. I have my doubts, though - the Dems think they have a mandate, and will use that excuse to push us over the fiscal cliff if only to use it as an excuse to implement socialist martial law on the entire country.

America: this will be your real test. Watch what your Congress people do. Then vote accordingly in the mid-terms. Yes, I'm betting the TP Repubilcans will go all out to block common sense again. Get rid of them.

Boehner has already stated he wants to extend the Bush tax cuts for another year and not do anything major until 2013. And since the Democrats have no spines that will probably be what happens. Kick the can down the road for another year....

Yeah, you really haven't been paying attention. Jobs bill killed, veterans bill killed, a whole bunch of things killed due to Republican arrogance.

Tax cuts must die

I am not sure what you mean by "common sense". You seem to use that phrase like you own it. Stop to ak yourself this one simple question: Is "Common Sense" something that you have because of your political beliefs, or is it something you have because of a fundamental truth that can't be stolen by socialist propaganda? I really believe that, if you can open your eyes to the truth about where our country could have gone and where it is heading now, then you will see what I am saying makes sense.

Obama's got the cards here. If nothing gets done, what happens is he gets to name his own price to put the tax cuts back, if they even do. He's coming fresh off an election where he knows, and can point to numbers explicitly proving, that the American people have his back over the GOP's if push comes to shove. He can point to numbers explicitly showing that people didn't want Romney's plan. He is under no obligation to implement it and is free to respond to any pressure tactics with literal open laughter directly into Mitch McConnell's face if he wants. He has the GOP by the short ones and, if he's smart, he'll act like it.

Yeah, youre insane, business people do not want another package for them to spend their way out of a recession and it will keep dropping for a while.

Congrats, you got what you wanted, social spending but a debt so high your grand kids will wind up in a third world nation.

Fiscal cliff or no we are going to have a recession. The local megacorp (Cat) just announced yesterday that the Q1 of next year is going to be soft and they are planning rolling layoffs for a few weeks in Q1... and this is after rolling layoffs tjos quarter (a couple of buddies are getting hit by these). They have always been a leading economic indicator and I do not see reason to doubt that we are set for a recession to just barely above zero growth for Q1 or Q2. Also add in the certainty that not all of the fiscal cliff will be rectified by end of Q2... yep another recession.

A recession is not bad if we can actually let it do its job.

My mom's best friend was boohoooing about how much her stocks dropped the last two days.

If she was smart she would take the opportunity to buy, but whatever.

Market is nowhere near where it was in the recession.

Market goes up, market goes down. Buy low sell high. Get out if you can't handle cyclical ups and downs.

Means a clear message from the voters that their party should lead. It last happened in 08. The US elected a democratic president and a democratic majority in the house and senate.

Calling this a mandate is a bit thin as democrats failed to gain a majority in the house, despite picking up seats.

Many economists warned that since liberals were forcing banks to give home loans to homeless people who can never pay them back that it would cause a housing collapse. Of course no one listened and look what happened.

Unfortunately, we went off the fiscal cliff 30 or 40 years ago, and have been papering over it with new money and hiding it with accounting gimmicks ever since.

CNBC is one of the few sites I can read at work on my company's intranet. I can say, without a doubt, that the comments section of CNBC articles makes YouTube comments look like a MENSA gathering.
