(Washington Examiner)   Even though Obama won, polling shows that 53% of Americans want less government and more privatization up 10 points from 2008. And so the week of denial begins   (washingtonexaminer.com) divider line 172

well, the 53 per cent could be wrong

Evidently, the majority of Americans felt that Obama would better than Romney on that front.

yes yes, America is a "center-right" country yadda yadda.

2012-11-08 02:14:16 PM
This seems to be an admission that the GOP is no longer seen as competent to bring about those changes.

People want less government in the things that they like and more government in the things they hate. This is not exceptionally new, and it's why the same people who complain about the expanding tendrils of the EPA under the Obama Regime can go to the city council meeting and ask for a ban on animated or moving signs greater than 3 feet wide and more than 76 inches above street level.

Delusional.

Define "smaller" in the specifics, and I think you'll have the resolution to your conundrum, Subby.

"Smaller government" makes a great slogan. But that's all it is until you get into the specifics. And for what it's worth, Obama did shrink the size of government.

FTA:

According to exit polls as described by Politico, "53 percent of those surveyed said the government is doing too many things better left to businesses and individuals."

That depends entirely on the aim of the service or program. There's no way a blanket statement like "business could do this better" can be applied to all the services a federal, state, or municipal government delivers.

But that involves thinking, nuance and ambiguity, all of which conservatives are terrible at.

Maybe we can stop crying socialism and finally admit that Obama is a centrist.

I'm also going to include this rant:

My biggest problem with the douchenozzles on the right is the painting of Obama by many people as a "socialist." I don't see it.

Taxes - he actually cut them and kept the Bush tax cuts at least initially - wants to roll back taxes to *gasp* Clinton era which was the most successful 8 years in recent history.

Gun rights - he actually expanded them. Healthcare, he implemented a very corporation-friendly healthcare system based on the GOP's healthcare ideas from a decade earlier, one which the GOP candidate Romney was so proud of when he passed it in MA.

Foreign policy - got out of a war (reducing gov't spending there), tried to close Guantanamo, basically invaded a sovereign nation to kill OBL, has continued many of the anti-terrorism measures that started under Bush.

Energy - wants energy independence, has provided measures for private energy companies to make bank, has made zero steps toward taking over the industry, which is what socialists do.

Obama is an incredibly centrist president. Consider this - the most socialist thing, the most irresponsible thing we've done in decades is TARP - which passed under Bush, in which taxpayers gave a huge blank check to a few large banks with no strings attached.

But sure...Obama is a socialist. RIGHT.

Yes, it may be true that Americans want smaller government and more privatization.

And it may also be true that Americans don't want Republicans in office.

Can any Republicans guess why those two things aren't mutually exclusive?

I think the right's problem is that they solely define "small government" by tax rates.

I took a farkette to physical therapy today, and on the drive to the young mans pagan association where she does her swim therapy, I tuned in to dennis prager. I might have not gotten his name correct.
He was basically saying, just like mark levin last night, that NOOOOO! The gop has to change nothing. What about those 53 million white males who voted for Rmoney ? Dont they count ?
It was basically f the monorities, f the women, f everybody else. We are RIGHT.
So, we listened for a few minutes and then I was the one who said I cant stand this frelling dren anymore and went to a sports station.

Does it enrage you when people use the word "pot" and aren't talking about a cooking implement?

Apples do not equal Oranges. Plus, a pot can be used for brewing, sometimes it can become a tun . Its still a pot . But, go ahead, keep trying ....

I'm not sure if the poll is skewed, but it doesn't seem that agreeing with it is contradictory to voting for Obama. As I wrote above, a person who believes in smaller government might want to vote for Obama as he has worked to do just that, for example reducing the number of federal employees. Someone might not believe Romney would actually do the same.

Not to mention, less government can mean things such as decriminalization of drugs and other such government-enforced regulations on moral principles (marriage, gambling etc..). I'm not sure why some take this poll as "dem ebil repthuglicans attacking r liberal idealz!"

To be fair, they had some infrastructural problems gathering data from the areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Not that those people would have any different opinion on governmental help than unaffected areas
