His snark aside, I am a bit impressed. Locals here know what a tremendous tightwad he is (I know people on his home staff).

I had expected something more along the lines of "I spent a ton of money to defeat Obama, so now I have to downsize. You can blame Obama for that."

Good for him, regardless of his reasons.

2012-11-08 03:30:41 PM
Hah. This is why I think Obama's second term is a nail in the coffin of the derpstorm brigade. The Job Creators have been hoarding their wealth to keep the economy growing so Obama couldn't win a second term. Well, they derped so much he got one anyway, because they scared everyone away from the Generic Republican they nominated. Now they have ready cash burning holes in their pockets, and if they don't invest in their businesses soon their own incomes will be affected. So they're gonna have to start hiring people, buying capital equipment and giving raises again, which means that the economy will pick up nicely as that cash starts to circulate. Result: second term Obama becomes the New Reaganesque Superhero.

I'm just giddy with glee.

"We'll see what happens. Meanwhile I gave everybody in the company a raise this week-the average was 5 percent. I wanted to help them handle the additional burdens the government will put on them."

Translation: It was all BS. I knew the economy would improve, either way because of the way it is trending. I will go back to quietly making money hand-over-fist and humping on this lovely bimbo, when the pills kick in.

That guy is leveraged up to his eyebrows according to what was shown in the movie (Queen of Versailles). His entire business is a house of cards. When the economy went down in 2008/2009 he admitted he didn't even have enough savings to send his kids to college. He isn't a very bright man, IMHO.

I had two appointments today and it just so happens they both were with small business owners. The election is over, Obama won....I'm a troll...whatever. I heard something today that was unsettling.

One is in the home nursing business with about 60 full time employees and the other one owns a restaraunt with 3 locations with roughly the same amount. At the end of the year they are either going to make their full time employees move to part time or lay a bunch of them off because they cannot afford the insurance mandate from Obamacare that kicks in a little over a year from now.

They both explained to me that in 2014 any business with over 50 employees to provide insurance (and get this).....they fine the employer 2k per employee and it doesn't start counting at 50 it starts at 30. So for every employee over the number 49 you don't provide benefits to, you get fined for every employee from 30 to 50. Thats 40K in total if you have 1 employee over the magic number 49!!!

I shiat my pants when she told me this today. Only a complete moron (or someone with an agenda) would come up with something as destructive as this. Can any of you Democrats please explain the logic behind this? WHo gives a shiat about political points right now. My team lost I get it. But please could any of you explain the logic to me?

1. Cutting hours = Hurts Middle class
2. Laying people off = Hurts Middle class
3. Not hiring new people = Hurts Middle class

For every action there is a reaction. You can't just tell businesses to do something that changes their bottom this radically and expect them to roll over and take it. They have numbers to meet and will do whatever they have to, to make it....or they will just give up. The people that really get farked aren't just the owners (most of them are ambitious enough to make it doing something else), they are the employees. The middle class. The single moms who make up a good number of the nurses who work for my client that are going find out next month (before xmas) that their hours are going to be cut by 30% in January because of this.

I wouldn't be surpised if 2%GDP and 8% unemployement become the new norm....we are getting poorer by the day.

MFL: 100% true story

Sounds like a good argument for universal health care.

Otherwise, these totally-not-made-up "small business owners" that you "had an appointment with" have between them over 100 full-time employees and don't provide them with health insurance? These owners are leeches on society that use the emergency room to keep their employees healthy. These aren't job creators, they're moochers relying on the rest of us to pay for their employees' health care at overinflated rates. Obamacare forces them to pay their fair share.

The concerns you bring up are legitimate, and I hope someone who knows more than I do about employer-provided insurance will step in and answer, because it merits an informed response.

But lots of businesses transition into offering a group plan without collapsing as a result. I've worked for plenty of small and mid-size companies, all of which offered health insurance; it's obviously not a death sentence for a small business. And, really, in the cases you mentioned, 60 employees, even if they're all full-time, means the penalty would be $60k, right? so $1k per employee per year.

I'm not a business owner, but I would imagine most businesses have enough of a per-employee profit margin that they can handle that. Even if things are so tight that the only way the business can survive is to have the employees shoulder that cost, it would be a pay cut of $83 per month. I mean, maybe more people are living hand-to-mouth than I think, but that just doesn't sound like a death knell. I think maybe you over-reacted by soiling your trousers, which must have been awkward in the middle of a business meeting.

Real world translation: magical thinking. "Oh, they will find a way, somehow. They'll just have to work a little bit harder." Every day in every way, AS is becoming more and more prophetic.

MFL: They have numbers to meet and will do whatever they have to, to make it....or they will just give up..

If you have 60 employees working for you for long enough per week (over 30 hours) that they can not be reasonably expected to hold another job, and the only way you're meeting your profit margin is by relying on emergency care to provide for your employees, GIVE UP. I DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS IN AMERICA. You are either terrible at business, or you are willfully offloading the cost of business that your competitors pay onto your neighbors. Either way you are hurting the value of employment in this country, and you are hurting our economy.

The mantra I've heard from you arseholes for four years is that "certainty" is a requirement for investment. "If only I could be guaranteed a return, I would invest! Risk has ALWAYS been subsidized by the government! Why won't Obama give me free risk absorption?" Horseshiat. "Certainty" is being able to plan for yourself or your family because you can assume that you will still be employed and will be able to get treatment if you get sick, allowing you to go ahead and buy that extra present, plan that extra meal, see that extra movie, take that extra trip somewhere. You know, DRIVE THE ECONOMY.
