Insatiable Jesus: They got something for their money: the GOP branded as the Party of Dishonesty. I heard more than one low info voter talking about how the Romney campaign just seemed to be doing nothing but lying. Congrats GOP.

It's intruging what 2016 will offer to the candidates that run for the GOP nomination. Will they run towards the center fully knowing that moving with the TPers and the Religious Right spells doom, but gives them a better chance to win the Presidency or, will they just rinse and repeat.

make me some tea: Karl Rove is done. Too many people see right through his belligerent propaganda game anymore. That might've worked in 2000 and 2004, but we're a lot wiser now.

All I can say to him is...

The dude lost to Rick farking Perry. Some genius

Here is what we got at the disaster house. This is what Romney's money purchased, it must cost, what a couple bucks per mailing in postage, printing, transportation and staff time. We got one single piece of Obama literature and one piece for Tammy Baldwin. There were also 2 to 6 robo calls per day from the Republicans for the last 4 months, and 2 total calls from the Dems, one of which was a real person. I know that the purpose of this stuff is to make people mad so that they get out and vote "Obama sent your job to China!" "Obama destroyed Medicare!" "Obama killed babies!" but it can certainly backfire if you don't do it right. A lot of money was blown.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Rove got blown too, once or twice. What? It's a stressful job.

I wonder if Adelson is getting nervous about the Chinese investigation into his Macau shenanigans now. He won't have a friendly face in the White House to put diplomatic pressure on Beijing to just sweep it under the rug.

Martin Silenus: Render him down for the salt!

Rove is going to end up stuffed and mounted. His credibility is shot to Hell. Prepare for the rise of a new neocon hatchet-man over the next four years.

His credibility should have been shot to Hell in 2008.

I'd say so.

Bachmann and King. My only 2 disappointments Tuesday night.

And Paul Ryan got re-elected. And Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Aside from those, a pretty solid Tuesday from top-to-bottom.

Wasn't expecting the Dems to take control of the House, but was hoping they could pick up a few more seats than they did. That said, the GOP gerrymandered the hell out of many states in 2010, which is depressingly going to make it hard for the Dems to take the House this decade.

2012-11-08 01:54:58 PM

doyner: Maybe, just maybe, those donors should have used that money to lure a Republican capable of winning into the primaries.

A Republican capable of winning the general would never pass the tea-bagged primaries. That is the major conundrum that the GOP has. Unless it decides to eschew the whole primary process, they will never be able to get a non-hyperpartisan yahoo past the primaries. That's why Romney had to swing far right during the primaries and then etch-a-sketch himself back to towards the middle. But now, with recordings and ease of finding past speeches, it's very difficult for a candidate to negate everything he said prior to winning the primaries without getting caught.

Luckily for the Democrats, they have no such problem. If someone went overly left and stayed left, it's still a viable platform for the general election.

2012-11-08 01:56:40 PM
This is a case study in the fallacy of "job creators" as primary driver of anything. They spent all that money, and they got absolutely nothing out of it; just barely being able to hang on to a handfull of gerrymandered and previously easily defensible seats like Bachmann and Ryan. They lost to regular people investing their time in making calls and knocking on doors. That labor is the real capital that builds things and changes events. Demand is the "job creator", the Republicans don't represent that, they represent the "rent seekers" more colloquially refered to as "leeches" or "parasites."

ExperianScaresCthulhu: Satanic_Hamster: Rove may have some angry donors on the line, reports the Huffington Post. "The billionaire donors I hear are livid," a Republican operative told the HuffPo. "There is some holy hell to pay. Karl Rove has a lot of explaining to do ... I don't know how you tell your donors that we spent $390 million and got nothing."

Been saying this since Tuesday night. Rich Republican donors, you're been lie to for six months. For six months people like Rove have been telling you this was a sure thing, if only you kept the money flowing. Now you've spent all this money only to learn that all the rasmussen polls that they were SWEARING TO YOU were super accurate were all bullshiat to trick you. Now you've spent all this money and the angry black man knows who you are and what you did to fight him and he's going to remember.

So what are you going to do in the future, rich guys? Keep funding the people who lie to your face and piss off the ones who keep winning? Keep your money and stay out of it next time? Maybe start giving to the Democrats in an effort to control or influence them?

to me, the arrogance of these people is amazing. if you spend money it's never a sure thing. if you spend money, sometimes you'll get a return, but there's also the chance you won't get a return. these jackasses have forgotten that a risk NEVER means an automatic return on investment. they're worse than the freaks who refuse to sell their underwater homes unless they can find a sucker who will pay them at a profit!

they spent money, it's gone.. just like they tell us little people. they need to move on. nobody owes them shiat, and that includes Karl Rove in the not owing them shiat.

I hope all these assholes go to jail. I don't care if it is Club Fed, these freaks need to get the indictments they tried to buy their way out of through Romney. Assholes. jail them all.

Oh, I agree with you. But if someone convinces you to invest tens of millions of dollars into your election, all the while lying his ass off about things to your face, how quick will you be to give him another 20 million dollars next election cycle?

Assuming you're not farking retarded.

2wolves: If I was Mr Rove I would stay away from traveling in light aircraft. Wouldn't be prudent.

And because he spent so much of their money, when Rove dies of this mysterious airplane crash, it would just be his body lying in pieces on the ground, but no plane parts in sight.

The tsunami that upends the Republican party won't come from screeching teabaggers or from the harrumphing "old guard," but from jackasses who paid out millions on promises that when "their candidates" win, business conditions and tax breaks will let them earn it all back.

Actually, since their claws are all but clipped, it's great to have those two hanging around continuing to make a mockery of the GOP. I'd bet that if there were any two that Rove wanted to see not stay in office, the two you named would be on the top of that list. They're the most face-palmingly disturbed GOP office holders to remind voters of what a stupid party it has. They're worse than Allan West only because West doesn't get on the air as often as these two. Even the pro-rape candidates are not as nationally well known as those two jokers.

phaseolus: Oh and another thing -- from the Huffpo article that tfa links to:

"I don't think anyone on our side understood or comprehended how good their turnout was going to be," said Henry Barbour, a Republican committee man from Mississippi. "The Democrats do voter registration like a factory, like a business, and Republicans tend to leave it to the blue hairs."

Could Barbour be any more insulting??!? Okay, last summer I went to an OFA Obama campaign volunteers' meeting held in a very nice retirement high rise overlooking the lake, and a lot of residents attended. I had never before been in a room with so many brainy people, ever. Dismissing many of his volunteers as "blue hairs" -- probably his hardest-working, most dedicated workers at that -- bespeaks some ... shortcomings on Barbour's part. If they didn't get the job done for him, it probably points to serious organizational issues. And since Barbour can't deign to show them love and respect, it shows he's personally out of touch with his own organization and the electorate at large, that he doesn't care to be in touch, and that he's an asshole.

At least he didn't accuse the Democrats of doing it like a plantation, or a chain gang.

/he is one of the Mississippi ex-KKK Barbours, right?

It's funny, but when people get junk mail, they glance at it and throw it in the trash. They don't read them unless there are coupons. So, what I see in the pile of fliers you have on your deck, there are a lot of reasonably flattering pictures of Obama, a couple of Romney and a cute baby picture. Glance...trash. So, Obama got exposure in more of the postcards than Romney did.

Kinda like the postcard of the now-Maine senator by her opponents. The smart people voted for a social worker and the stupids voted for an orc rogue with long eyelashes and huge breasts.

Super-rich people may well be clever when it comes to scroogey accumulation of wealth, but this clearly does not translate into electoral acumen. Betting on Romney may have been a reasonable risk, but remember that Adelson dumped truckloads of cash into Gingrich's campaign.

That is a grade-A moran move.

The election outcome:

1. Adelson - extradited to China to face possible death penalty for bribery. Caught trying to escape to Israel and shot.

2. Rove - third arsehole ripped by mysterious texan.

3. Rupert - beats up his purchased gook wife, rubs his depends in her face, and then is handcuffed and sent to the UK to stand trial for the phone tap cover-up.

4. Trump - croaks out on the street and is ignored by people walking by.

5. Limbaugh - literally explodes.

If you look at the collection, they were all negative, I think every one of them. Many using a doctored photo of Obama to make him look Blacker or more stern. And loaded with nothing but spin lies or half truths. "Obama raided medicare" next to a crying old lady. Yeah, right. Not negative at all, quite the gentleman.

I watched Karl's meltdown live. The other hosts looked downright pleased to be watching him squirm. Chris Wallace was just openly shiatting on him. He tried his best to hedge with "I'm just urging prudence", but that was the look of a man that lied to his bookie and knew that Moose and Rocco were already on the way to collect.

If I was Rove (shudder), I'd look them in the eye and tell them the truth: Romney ran an astoundingly bad campaign.

His pivot to the center was a month after the convention; it should have been as soon as he had the nomination locked up.

His running mate was a pander to the hard right, in a state he had little chance of winning even with Ryan on the ticket. He needed to pander to either the center, or to a swing state. Hello, Rob Portman?

Finally, he never defined an agenda. Everything from Team Romney was a reason that Obama was terrible. But nothing about what Romney would do. In an election that was mostly about jobs, Romney's "Plan" was ridiculously thin on that point. The PDF was 126 pages, jobs came along at page 119. The section was titled "Human Capital" - way to connect with regular folks, there, Mitt - and the only concrete policy proposal was to increase the number of H1B visas.

Romney could have won. He could have portrayed himself as someone who knows how the rich benefit from the system, and pledged to change that. To make taxes fair, to rein in Wall Street, to break up too big to fail banks. Invoke the old trust buster. Teddy Roosevelt. That would put him to the left of Obama on a couple of things, not a bad strategy for siphoning away enthusiasm from a center-right opponent.

A terrible communications strategy and a lack of solid plans.

No amount of ad buys could turn that crazy train around.

Dear rich dudes,

Don't feel bad about spending $390M on Romney and company and 'not getting anything out of it'. You are just looking at it the wrong way, try to look at the good things that you did. For one you gave a lot of people a serious case of butthurt, produced a large quantity of tasty tears, and finally provided large quantities of comedy entertainment for Democrats. So please don't be angry it was worth every penny in my opinion.

make me some tea: BunkoSquad: I haven't even had time yet to be happy for Obama. I've spent the last two days laughing at the look on Karl's face when the election got called. It's the same face I hope he has when the pilot announces, "Sorry, folks, our regularly-scheduled Dulles-to-Chicago flight has been rerouted to The Hague."

I need to see that video. I saw the clip on Daily Show where Megyn Kelly calls him out, but they didn't play his reaction.

I remember the 2006 elections when Karl Rove was confidently predicting a Republican sweep for the House and Senate.
IIRC, he stated that "We have the math."

Seems he had 'the math' this time, too...
