(NPR)   Remember the Texas judge who was suspended last year when his daughter leaked footage of him beating the crap out of her? He's been reinstated "as part of the arrangement ... which is essentially a public reprimand with no other consequences"   (npr.org) divider line 28

The link to politics here seems tenuous at best.

The CBS news article linked from NPR is better.

Adams may no longer preside over the physical domestic abuse cases that previously comprised much of his court docket.

According to the state court web site a "Court at law", which this judge works in, has jurisdiction varying from county to county. What else can he do in Aransas county if he can't yell at wife beaters? Do they sentence him to run traffic court until he loses his mind?

Quoting CBS:

However, county commissioners voted earlier this year to cut his 2013 salary by 1.6 percent to $144,000. Other elected county officials received a 2 percent cost-of-living increase.
At the federal level the constitution prohibits retaliating against judges by cutting their pay.

How can he be trusted to judge anyone? I'm surprised all his previous rulings haven't been subjected to review.

Texas retards. Do the county a favor and secede already.

His daughter has all the markings of a spoiled, unappreciative brat. That man is a terrible father and not a good person, but what makes him such a terrible person goes beyond just a beating. He was a terrible parent before that beating. He's probably still providing for her and demanding obedience in return.

Never commit a crime in Texas. If you do your jury pool and judge will all be Texans. Anyone with common sense already moved out of the state a long time ago.

In theory shouldn't Texas be crime-free now?

Not the only thing the Internet forgets.

Dusty the cat was returned to the boy and his family. Can you imagine what they did to it? All the grief and notoriety they had to go through... oooh yeah, that cat's life was made a living HELL.

Is. IS a living hell.

Well, we had a followup thread where we saw they actually do still have a really farked-up relationship like that, but that first line makes no sense. He was a terrible parent and beat her. He also offered her money for college and a car. In a situation like that, it's really hard to know how to react for anyone, and I can't really blame her for being more than a bit weird.

Gosh, it's a wonder why people still murder and commit crimes despite all of Texas' harsh punishments.

I was disciplined phisically until the age of 10 when it was obvious other methods would be better. I won't be doing it to my kids though, it messes them up big time.

I'm not blaming her for being spoiled and unappreciative. She clearly didn't raise herself to be that way. But that's what she is. If I recall the only reason she released the video in the first place was that he threatened to take away her car. The absolute best thing for her would be to figure out that his money isn't worth dealing with his clearly dysfunctional personality, but I think at this point she's beyond hope.

"Also, Adams may no longer preside over the physical domestic abuse cases that previously comprised much of his court docket.""

And in related news, the Food Network turned down a proposed TV show titled "Cooking With Jeffrey Dahmer".

Well, first, that's what the judge is claiming. Abusers are usually honestly convinced the victim is 'misbehaving', and can pinpoint a 'reason'. That doesn't mean that's what's actually happening, and, hell, let's be honest--abusers lie their asses off when they want. So we don't even know this is true.

Second, even if we grant that for the sake of argument, unless the girl has two cars, she's got multiple sclerosis (which I can't spell). I doubt she can walk to and from school. So he's threatening to pretty much destroy her good standing with her teachers, and possibly lose her scholarships, depending on how long he takes the car.

Third, where the hell would she go? Her father's a judge, owns her only means of transportation, pays for her school, has her little sister, and she has MS, so she can't work a physical job. Even if a shelter was brave enough to piss off a judge, for her, staying might just be the only option she can see.

Honestly, if I didn't go to HS with kids of dysfunctional families (not to this level, but pretty bad), I wouldn't be able to figure this out either, but abuse cases are very different than they look, and a lot of the time the abuser actually relies on that. The guy who storms around getting drunk at church gets arrested. The one who smiles politely at a business meeting and goes home to beat his wife doesn't.

She doesn't have MS.

From her youtube video:

"She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views."

I don't know exactly what that is but appears to be some kind of condition that causes you to be a nerd. Shes' got issues. She's not disabled. And she walks fine, not that that really matters. And the judge can claim whatever he wants, but there's no reason to drag up shiat from 7 years ago unless your pissed. She didn't want help, she wanted revenge.

Yep, you've got her pegged. In fact, that's the main reason victims of assault identify their attackers: revenge. The people who suffer quietly and let their emotional scars manifest some other way, like serial murder or suicide, are really just being magnanimous.

She didn't just identify her attacker. She posted it on youtube and then reddit to make sure the entire world saw it. I was almost 30 before I could even think of some of my childhood trauma without freaking out. And I didn't get a god damned mercedes and a college education out of that shiat either. Thank god, too, because you get over that kind of trauma. Being the center of the universe is a much more damaging and permanent handicap.

I was also disciplined physically, but never beaten in anger.
