Well, the media tried their damnedest to win the election for the GOP, but the GOP candidates just kept saying things.

Really?

That media that kept spouting bullsh*t about how it was a "dead heat" when Nate Silver's numbers said it would end pretty much exactly as it did?

That media?

This is almost starting to seem like the "World Jewish Conspiracy" from the 20's-40's.

It's a good thing these people lost this election. If the GOP had been able to take credit for the end of the recession by being in the right place at the right time, who knows what would happen.

One GOP politician slips and says something incredibly stupid about rape and the media is all over it and it hurts the GOP.

A second politician says something incredibly stupid about rape and the media is all over it and it hurts the GOP.

By the third and fourth politician, you think the media would learn its lesson.

If it wasn't for Hannity, Rush, and the rest of Rupert's army, Obama would have won by a landslide.
Seriously, when you look at FB folks who liked Romney, you can tell by their posts exactly what the talking points were for that day. I feel bad for those folks. They work hard all day, come home, watch a half hour or hour of Fox news, and consider themselves informed.

So, anyway, I was listening to Fox News Radio yesterday and today (they had the reruns of Hannity and O'Reilly on in the morning).

One of the major gripes for this election is that Mitt Romney was on the receiving end of SO many unfair attacks. And the media was carrying water for Obama's campaign to make all these unfair attacks.

Aside from the proposal to create an alternative, privately funded media, and the delusion that somehow Obama is different than any other first term president, it was fairly sensible.

Lay off the social stuff, don't enter echo chambers that affirm wishful thinking about your demographics, engage ideologically.

The latter is interesting because it would inject some philosophical balance into the process. Engaging ideologically would allow the GOP to get past some of the platform points that exist solely to appeal to white voters. Immigration comes to mind.

This is one of those "this perceived media bias is why we're so biased!" articles from a member in the Republican propaganda network.

In other words, classic Republican projection. Romney would have had no chance in hell without the help of known Republican echo chambers like Fox News, Drudge, Hot Air, NRO, Brietbart, etc... All echoing incessantly about how Obama's horrible, Romney will save us, oh god we're all doomed but vote Romney anyways.

Perhaps we shouldn't worry about them.

2012-11-08 03:16:09 PM
Ok, sure. Go even harder right. Triple down, and run a full Tea Party darling next time to espouse more of those "true conservative values". Let's see how the numbers come up then.

You've lost on the issues - more people are against you than for you.
You've lost on the demographics - the electorate isn't just old white men anymore.
You've lost on messaging - the public can fact check every thing you say.
You've lost on unity - your party is splitting.
You've lost on compromising - you step back every time the opposition steps forward.

Your platform is dead. Take the time to reform, and come back in 4 - 6 years with a cohesive message and a modern platform, and you'll be part of the civilized conversation again.

2012-11-08 03:18:58 PM
I was worried there for a minute that Republicans might take a hard long look at why they lost and have that come to Jesus moment they so desperately need. So much for that.

2012-11-08 03:19:55 PM
SO the media who mostly was saying it was going to be a close race, which it wasn't, are in the tank for Obama?

2012-11-08 03:20:27 PM
I'd say that conservative media needs to stop projecting and start keeping their own viewers and readers informed of facts and not just opinions. But that's never been their style, and they've got a lot of dumb consumers out there happy to hear some pundit tell them what they want to hear as opposed to what might be true.

2012-11-08 03:20:29 PM
The most common thing when your team loses is to blame the refs, the field conditions, the travel schedule etc. instead of looking at the result and simply saying "we got beat, we weren't as good as our opponent was".

Are you sure? The constant barrage of pompous distortions and fantastic speculation from the Right arguably turned as many voters to Obama as it cemented the true believers. It didn't help that anyone with the ability to Google consistently found the right bubble-sphere full of lies and half-truths. How does an educated adult vote with a clear conscience for a candidate associated with delusional nutcases like Limbaugh or Levin?

Khellendros: Your platform is dead. Take the time to reform, and come back in 4 - 6 years with a cohesive message and a modern platform, and you'll be part of the civilized conversation again.

Here's your problem. Top to bottom the republicans have decided that they can never be wrong. If anything goes wrong and causes them hardship it must be someone else's fault because conservatism is a sacred cow.

Sure, your candidate for president was an unlikeable automaton that even you didn't really want who looked like the guy who laid you off in 2008 at the start of the recession and then promptly ran three, count 'em, THREE ads directly from his campaign that were outright blatant lies. Sure, he was caught on video calling retirees and active duty military personnel shiftless blame-casters leeching off of society. Sure he endorsed a candidate who basically said that god gives women gifts wrapped in violent sexual assaults and his running mate worked closely on legislation along with a guy who thinks a woman's womb can tell the difference between consensual sex and rape. And, sure, your candidate never once provided any coherent or complete plan for the economy during the entire time he campaigned.

But, yea, clearly the real problem here is that there are media outlets other than Fox News out there. Right. Yea, that's the ticket.

I am rapidly running out of farks to give about conservatives. This absolute refusal to acknowledge the simple reality that people don't like them because they have horrible ideas is quickly moving from infuriating to just plain sad. It's like watching children refuse to take responsibility for a mess they were the only ones around to cause. It's just absolutely insane.

Oh well. I'm kind of enjoying the brief respite from the usual deluge of right-wing shills while they lick their huge, gaping wounds and roll around in their own shame for a few days, anyway.

I think the media did help win it - but it was Fox News and those sorts that did the helping.

From its original roots to the co-opting the "Tea Party" (if there ever really was one) - they done farked up and let in the people they were trying to fool.

It's like a magician letting people on stage to do the tricks - the regular people just aren't good at it, and while they still believe it's magic, they're letting the illusion slip here and there, and the rest of the audience is starting to see the wires and mirrors.

They're gonna have to shut down the Internet at some point.

I've met Romney supporters who weren't ardent watchers of right wing media; what they tended to do was read one thing about one of Mitt's stances on one issue and decide based on that. Ms. qorkfiend's sister voted for Romney because, she said, Romney would be better for student loans. Where did she get that information? Why, Mitt Romney's website, of course. No attempt to find a second source, no attempt to figure out Obama's stance on the issue; read Mitt Romney's website once and head to the polls.

What the right wing should have taken from this election:
1. They have created a bubble that projects a false reality
2. They need to modify their platform and extreme views to be competitive in national elections
3. The voters rejected the idea that we must rule out tax cuts and want to end gridlock in Washington

What the right wing actually took away from this election:
1. The media is liberal and biased against their candidate
2. Voters are stupid and they will put their self interest of free stuff over their love of country
3. The voters gave the Republican House a mandate to refuse to raise taxes on the top 1%

So, I tried to read most of the comments. When someone spoke sense, they were immediately piled on.

One major thing they seem to have taken away from all this is that women voted because they want to keep having abortions.

Maybe if you stop acting like half the population only cares about abortion availability you may have had a better chance.

Where did they get the idea that women only want to have sex and abortions????
