Walker: Suck it Apple fanboys.

"Samsung's time at the top will be short-lived however, as Apple's iPhone 5 is expected to regain the title to top-selling smartphone in the December quarter."

Not an Apple fanboy. I actually have a Galaxy III and love it. But Samsung only came out on top this quarter because people weren't buying old iPhones knowing the new one was just about to come out.

I would say part of it is the bad publicity surrounding Apple's patent infringement lawsuits. I know I was planning on getting an iPhone in the next few months; now I'm not, and furthermore I'm disinclined to buy any Apple product. I'm very unimpressed with their business practices. Furthermore, the whole debacle strongly suggests that Apple is out of ideas, and why would I pay a premium for something that is in no way better or more innovative than the competition?

2012-11-08 01:26:28 PM
So, in the last quarter, Apple had about 45 days to sell their flagship product iPhone 5s and Samsung had 90 days to sell G3s, and barely sold more units than Apple.

Not a fanboy, I think they are both neat devices, but this is a poorly-written, partially-researched article.

You sound concerned.

I think a lot of this is due to the Apple maps debacle. A lot of my friends who use iPhones want to keep their Google map apps, so they'll hold off on buying the new one until Apple will fixes the location issue. To them it's not a big deal to wait a while if it means keeping the maps.

I think the bad thing about the iphone isnt the phone, but the fact they slowly restricted the ability to actually do anything they don't consent to while other phones have caught up to their tech without those limits.

Doesn't matter. If your caveats mattered, it would have happened before. But since the first iphone came out, it hasn't.

Yeah, you can definitely turn it off, but I've found it to be advantageous when typing to have the ability to "guess" what you are trying to type, especially on a touchscreen. I like how it understands that "phine" should be "phone", but wish it realized the difference between backspacing and correcting, and starting a whole new word. Those functions are rolled together in one feature, wish they were separate.

Honestly: the windows phone keyboard is a genius. Even if you accidentally hit a period, it knows what word you meant. It's amazing.

Right, so leave it to the person who buys the phone to decide, not saying any issues caused should be covered by a warranty...

My gripe is with email notifications, with the stock email app*. If you leave the Email App open and lock the phone; when you get a new email, the LED will light/phone [can] vibrate as with all notifications, but there won't be an email icon in the notification bar on the lock screen. All other similar notifications (facebook, sms, etc) work properly. Before the latest update, the LED wouldn't even come on in that scenario, so you could go a few hours without knowing about new emails.

And yeah, the stock keyboard is ass. I'm happy with Touchswype, though apparently they botched the latest version.

Oh, and it's funny when the lock screen forgets it shouldn't ever be in landscape. You turn on the phone (holding it in a landscape orientation), the locks screen stays in landscape for a split second before going into portrait.

*Couldn't get K9 to work with our Exchange Server.

The S3 isn't even CLOSE to the size of an iPad Mini. You sure she didn't buy a Note 2 (which is still smaller...). The S3 is easily pocket-able, unless you prance around in Daisy Duke jorts.

I have both of these products and they're great for the gym or a run. Super easy to use, since it's just drag and drop, no dealing with annoying software like Itunes. I'd recommend either as a decent alternative to an Ipod.

Apple's going to sue. The term "Best-selling smartphone in [year]" has long been associated with the iPhone and its application to any other brand might create customer confusion potentially costing Apple up to $57.9 quatrilion.

The difference between 3G and LTE is night and day. The iPhone now performs as it has always been designed to. (the only bottleneck before was slow data speeds)

Sansa Clip+ is a great product for a decent price. Much better than trying to use a phone during a workout, and it's cheap so you don't have to worry about theft or breakage.

The iPhone 5 is very underwhelming. I used to be an iPhone user but would not go back now. The screen is too small, the app market is locked up tight - it's the USSR of smartphones.

Apple seem to have stopped innovation in favor of litigation. They will end up going the same way as other once dominant US consumer electronic brands. RCA, Magnavox, Zenith, Quasar, Philco - the list is long but distinguished.

THIS. When it debuted in 1997, iPhone was far ahead of every other phone out there (including Blackberry), but now iOS has been stagnant for years and its age has really shown, especially when you compare it to modern-day AndroidOS Jellybean or Ice Cream Sandwich. iPhoes have the same old icons, same screen size (relatively-speaking), etc. The GUI remains stuck in 1997. Apple needs to stop slapping makeup on it, and finally euthanize it and start from scratch.

It's not even close - we just got my wife one. It's bigger than an iPhone, but not by much, and it certainly fits in an evening clutch. If you have a pants pocket that fits an iPhone, then you have one to fit this.

Processed a swap of an I Phone 4S with a Galaxy SIII today. Quite a few customers are swapping their I Phone 5 s for the Galaxy because they do not like a lot of the features the I Phone has. Others because they miss their Androids.

Yeah, you can definitely turn it off, but I've found it to be advantageous when typing to have the ability to "guess" what you are trying to type, especially on a touchscreen.
