They are trying to be edgy like premium or even basic cable channels and are failing miserably due to FCC rules which they have to obey and cable channels don't. The networks are so scared of getting in trouble "America's Funniest Home Videos" even blurs babies butts for fear of getting fined $20 million.

What ever happened to easy titles like "The Bob Newhart Show"

Just name them by time slot, and people can go in with a blank slate.

Yo, you checked out that ABC @ 9pm Wednesday Slot, its hilarious (most of the time until they get sappy)

If you're saying "edgy" equals "bad language" I have to disagree. Usually expletives used in comedies are due to lazy/bad writing. Sometimes, not - I think "It's Always Sunny..." has awesome writing, and casually uses the words "bi*ch" and "sh*t" without being censored or bleeped. But it's good writing and it is the exception. "Arrested Development" - one of the best written shows in my opinion - bleeped everything (other than the pilot if you have the DVDs) and the bleeps were hilarious.

I just don't think "fu*k" constitutes "edgy". It doesn't shock me, is not in and of itself funny...no real purpose.

Besides, the bleep itself is far more humorous most of the time.

Although I'm not sure why I'm responding to a person who is concerned that AFHV "blurs babies butts".

FCC rules don't apply to anything after 10:00 or anything on cable. Advertisers and viewers are the real reason there's no profanity or nudity on TV.

Like that cop show Southland, where they'd have the characters curse to make it more like cable... but then bleep the cursing. I always thought that was the dumbest thing. If I had been with the network I would have taken it as a sign I had already lost.

This is partly true, but there's also a practical problem-in the Central and Mountain time zones, prime time is not 8 PM to 11 PM, but instead is 7 PM to 10 PM. So, this means, for practical purposes, shows that start at 10 PM (in theory not under the FCC's juristiction in terms of content) on the coasts have to confirm to FCC rules because they will air before 10 PM in the middle of the country (unless the TV network airs a seperate censored version in those areas and they never bother to do so, especially since technically they air the East Coast feed).
