Say what you will about Canadian beer (though in this case you are very much mistaken), but I find it kind of silly that the two brands most prominently shown in TFA's photo are Australian.

/though I do enjoy watching Cartlon Draught's ads

Their Extra Special Bitter is fantastic. I'm going to pick up a growler of it on my way home tonight. I'm glad their brewery is walking distance from my house :)

For what it's worth, the NHL initially rejected the 1979 merger with the WHA. A massive Canadian boycott of Molson caused the Canadiens to reverse their vote, allowing the Oilers, and future Avalanche, Coyotes and Hurricanes to join.

Oh, well. I'm sure there is something else they can watch on tv while they drink. Like ice fishing or competetive politeness or something.

For every day of the lockout one owner or players head must be chopped off.

Is anyone going to inform the NHL that they are not MLB, NFL, or the NBA? Kids in America largely do not grow up playing hockey and this is a fringe sport that really can't afford to lose another season to a lockout.

A lot of us are Leafs fans, you have to be drunk enough to miss the last 5 minutes of the game when they snack defeat from the jaws of victory.

opposite of csb is what... ???

.. i was in ottawa the other night at the 67s game, (junior hockey). bought a beer at the concessions. 9 farkin bucks for a tallboy!! Molson Canadian, which isnt a bad beer but not premium.

so i dont give a fark about the lockout, theres still lots of hockey that can be seen in Canada, but drop the farkin beer prices ya gouging bastards.

because they have no other sports up there to watch and drink to. Hockey is their life and beer is their blood. Sure, we try to introduce football, and they have this thing called the Grey Cup but I think they're done already. See, I don't even know. Lacrosse is a spring sport. Soccer, WTF is soccer, eh? Baseball is an amusing oddity that they start playing before winter is over in a couple of covered stadiums. Basketball is kind of foreign, they don't get the appeal of all those attractive, successful NBA thugs as they have very little in common with them up there. Hockey is THE national sport, we have no equivalent here. No, we do not, do not try to say football or baseball is our national sport. See? Can't be done. Hockey and hockey alone is the universal national sport of Canada, this NHL lockout hurts them far, far more than it does us. The only way to get an equivalent in the US would be for the NFL, NBA, MLB and NASCAR to all suspend their entire season all at the same time, for an entire year. Now try to imagine Joe sixpack with nothing to talk about, no games or races from last night to say "did you see that?" Then you get the feeling of what it is like for our northern neighbors right about now.

Molson Canadian beer is neither beer nor is it Canadian. The last Canadian owned mass beer producer is Moosehead.

As a Canadian I can confirm that this is completely accurate. The NHL's a cultural touchstone that doesn't really share a place with any other sport, and those of us who are sports fans find ourselves struggling to enjoy what passes for fun in other parts of the world.

shrug.. everyones tastes differ. I never drink Canadian at home but its better than coors farking light.. it is generic suds. premium beers were 9.50 for a tallboy. No Moosehead available.

When the hell are the networks going to start airing ahl or khl games anyway??

We dont. They just arent getting $10 a beer now, only the usual fare.

I might be the only Canadian who doesn't give a damn about hockey, but I think the owners and players should both go fark themselves and learn to appreciate their fans more. They need to take the money they are squabbling over and give it back to the fans in the way of ticket and merch. reductions across the board. Greedy farks.

I'm thinking that if one or two beers at the most you can drink due to drinking and driving laws in most provinces, they're set that high to realize the most profit - because you can't come back for more. Here in Alberta, your "over the limit" now at 0.05 BAC (new limit just came into effect last month) - that's basically one beer and your done.

Maybe you are too young to remember the first and second lockout, but hockey came back stronger and with greater revenue then ever from both. Sure it sucks for the little guys, the beer distributors, the concession sales people, bars, etc... but both the owners are sure that once this little labor tiff is over they will get a bigger slice of increased revenue.

No, it is not the owners you have to convince, but the fans. Convince them that they need to stay away for at least three to five years after the lockout ends. That those arenas to stay empty, that those franchises teetering on the brink of bankruptcy need to be pushed over the edge. Force three to six franchises to collapse, force the owners to fire Bettman, force everyone involved to apologize to us the fans.

While true, I suspect some form of the NHL would always survive in Canada.

I watched the Russia vs. QMJHL game on NHLN a few nights ago, and went to a Junior K-Wings game in Kalamazoo last Sunday (great game, so cheap). In a way, the NHL lockout has made me appreciate the whole sport and its system more. I'll be going to many more games (college, juniors, ECHL and AHL) than I would have without the lockout.

Just get a deal done already you farks. It hurts enough not to have hockey, it hurts even more that the Hurricanes JUST got another Staal brother and Semin, it hurts a LOT that ESPN's sims of the season so far have the Hurricanes 2nd in the East.

Would be nice to have sports to watch almost 5 nights a week.

I've completely stopped caring. I can find my hockey fix elsewhere. The lockout could end this afternoon and unless I stumbled across that fact here on Fark, I probably wouldn't know for days or weeks.
