I can't stress this enough but this is really cause to panic. I would contact the media and congress and demand they take action.

/the above is completely unrelated to my job working for a defense contractor making submarine parts.

A Russian sub was detected at about the same range 3 years ago. It is isn't even remarkable for being rare or new.

cman: Scary? Really subs?

You do realize that they were in INTERNATIONAL waters, right?

Naval powers do this shiat all the time in INTERNATIONAL waters.

Nope. Sorry. Only the US is allowed to do that sort of stuff in international waters.

The sub was discovered about 275 miles off the southern East Coast in international waters about two weeks ago and has been followed by the Navy since, defense officials said

Oh no, our surveillance systems worked!

Tenatra: janzee: Article failed to mention that we've been tracking the sub since it fired up it's engines in its base port...

That's what happens when you have people in the intel community that leak bits and pieces to the press. When I was on the inside it amused me when I saw intel leaks in the news, the picture is very different because the press doesn't have all of the information.

"Our source was the New York Times."

Infernalist: This was just a case of the Russians trying to be sneaky and the US Navy not just pointing out that, yes, we 'can' hear you guys out there in your very loud, very obvious boats...But, also pointing it out to the world.

This was a very direct pointed reminder that our 'listening' tech is better than their 'sneaking' tech and we showed it to the world. It was a simple and polite humiliating of their sub Navy.

The captain of that sub boat is likely to spend the short remainder of his career submitting reports about the number of pigeons on the dock he's been reassigned to guarding.

We won't be laughing quite so hard at them when the 2 other Russian subs that snuck by during the diversion popup off the coast of Sheboygan.

I think the point is that we would never dream of doing the same and sending one of our subs to within 275 miles of their territory, because we're better than that.

Hot Russian navy guys? Sounds fun.

I am not a gay man, but even I know that Russian men are ugly farks. Maybe not as bad as Englishmen, but still pretty damn bad
