We're they conducting missile drills while listening to our rock and roll?

ThatBillmanGuy: So.. An attack sub (not a ballistic missile sub) comes close to u.s. waters but remains in international waters, and this is something Russia even told us it was going to do... And were supposed to panic?

/not seeing it
//former stg

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd be far more concerned about the Russian long-ranger bombing group stationed in Venezuela. This boat was probably just on normal patrol.

Do they still occasionally taunt the west coast airspace with fighters?

Russians playing military dick-waving games. Not unusual.

GAT_00: The sub was discovered about 275 miles off the southern East Coast in international waters about two weeks ago and has been followed by the Navy since, defense officials said

I believe the point of going public with the story was to impolitely tell the Russian Navy to kindly f@#k off.

2012-11-08 10:20:33 AM
I see nobody read the article. Usually at least a few people read it. The entire article was the Navy saying "so what's your point....it's International waters" and the author trying to conjure something up.

"They are doing what the U.S. does, patrolling and conducting exercises," one of the officials told Security Clearance.

They were probably down there for the sole purpose of gathering intel on our training exercises. We both know that we spy on each other, this isn't going to make them back off.

Everyone knows that sub captains use thier parascopes to take pictures of women on the beach. After getting warmed up with American beaches, they are heading toward Europe's nude beaches for better entertainment.

Infernalist: This was just a case of the Russians trying to be sneaky and the US Navy not just pointing out that, yes, we 'can' hear you guys out there in your very loud, very obvious boats...But, also pointing it out to the world.

This was a very direct pointed reminder that our 'listening' tech is better than their 'sneaking' tech and we showed it to the world. It was a simple and polite humiliating of their sub Navy.

The captain of that sub boat is likely to spend the short remainder of his career submitting reports about the number of pigeons on the dock he's been reassigned to guarding.

We won't be laughing quite so hard at them when the 2 other Russian subs that snuck by during the diversion popup off the coast of Sheboygan.

I'm wondering about Puerto Rico, if they become a state does that change the US territorial waters makeup, or will it stay the same as it is now, whatever that is?

With one exception in Sicily where two built 20-something Italian girls were doing each others' nails and playing with each others' hair topless right in front of me, most of the people who go nude at European beaches really shouldn't any more than Americans should.

They should've just tracked it secretly, without announcing anything or giving themselves away. Then, a few months from now, just quietly send Russia a complete and detailed map of every move their sub made.

i'm betting this is red herring as well. perhaps we tracked it all the way from russia but wanted to make them think we only detected it when it got close.

Exactly. They let them dream on for a while and this is just showing them that they were pwned all along.

The captain of that sub boat is likely to spend the short remainder of his career submitting reports about the number of pigeons on the dock he's been reassigned to guarding.

I disagree--it's not his fault that his equipment wasn't up to the job. I think his superiors sent him out to find out of it could be done and they just got their answer.

The Russian system couldn't possibly be more different than our own. We can, and have, sent our men out knowing that they would fail. We plan for it.

The Russians, on the other hand, do not think like this. He was not only beaten, but publicly humiliated and humiliated the Russian people, government and Putin in the process.

If this was the Soviet days, he'd be arrested, his family arrested, with him getting shot and his family sent to a lumber camp in Siberia.

As it is, he'll be 'reassigned' to a career-ending position counting trees out in the wilderness and some other Russian captain will take his slot.

Russian leaders do not look upon failure kindly.

What's hilarious is that you probably think you know something.
