So come on back to the motherlode, freepers. We can offer you a socialist welfare system with single payer health care, but totally free if you are poor. Free housing for the poor paid for by local taxes. Draconian gun control where even owning a handgun will get you five years, Legalised same-sex unions. A true 'State religion' although most of us are atheists. You'll fit right in.
Only joking. We don't want you.

The British don't want you, jerkoffs. And we also don't want you in Canada, farksticks. Nor do they want you in any sane country populated mostly by white people--which are, let's face it, the only countries you want to live in.

These people hate the rest of their own country, but don't realize they'd hate the rest of the free world even more. It's so, so sad. But also so amazingly fun to watch them spin around until they get dizzy and trip over the piles of ammunition in their kitchen and fall over and lie on the kitchen floor, fat, flailing and confused by a changing world.

I am NOT an Obama supporter.

I voted AGAINST your guy. Millions of others obviously did too.

When you guys stop selecting bigot-asshole-big money loving-unfair-lying-jackoffs for your leaders I will gladly cast my vote against the smarmy and ineffective liberal.

Until then.

It is hilarious that these mental midgets spent the last four years screaming about Obama's "Apology Tour", but then turn around and put out a soppy apology to a Queen, who has no power, in a country that is far more socialistic than anything these morons complain about here in the States.

In short, man up, you soppy vaginas. A black man in the White House isn't the end of the world. You'll live.

The Great Gazoo: Philip Francis Queeg: The Great Gazoo: Out of curiosity I tuned into the right wing radio talk shows yesterday to see what they'd say. Nearly all of them - in addition to stating their amazement that so many Americans must be looking for a government handout - kept repeating that they need to capture the Latino demographic. They also insisted that republicans cannot "become democrats" in the process, but not a single one was able to say HOW they could capture the Latino vote.

The DREAM act should be absolutely a no brainer for a conservative party in the US. You can wrap that thing in 18 layers of the "American Dream" and"American Exceptionalism". Yet, they just can't see that.

On the contrary though, they were also against Jeb Bush's potential candidacy in 2016 mainly because he was a Dream Act supporter who favors a legalization path for illegal immigrants.

Which is why I can't see a way for the obvious and required changes to happen.

Pretty much everyone here knows I'm about as libby a lib as there is. However I think it's bad for the country for the Republican Party to marginalize itself. A pragmatic, rational, opposition is healthy for the country. We NEED a decent conservative party in this country.

Politics is the last refuge of the animal mind. Every last shred of hatred, anger, frustration, and vitriol that used to serve as rationalization for tribal, and then national warfare, now has to be repressed.

Thus, you have people with political viewpoints that are not only contrary to their own self-interest (and obviously so), but viewpoints that are unable to withstand any level of logical scrutiny. This is because they are not based in logic, they are based in a subconscious drive to obtain resources, procreation and control the population of genetically unrelated groups.

And now, back to fart jokes.

Dear former Subjects,

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate your offer to return to British Sovereignty as a few things have changed over here since 1776. Specifically;

1. We no longer view black or brown people as our personal property.
2. We no longer think the answer to foreign leaders who don't agree with us is to launch an invasion.
3. We now let women vote and do all sorts of other smart health care things,
4. We regard religion as a kind of opt-in or opt-out deal, not a political doctrine.
5. We have stopped transporting criminals to the colonies so they can't be seen by others (ie Gitmo).
6. We no longer let people die because they are poor.
7. We let everyone over 18 vote without impediment or restriction.
8. We don't believe everything we read in the Press and have encouraged people to form "opinions" themselves.
9. We still believe in hard work, but we don't punish or ignore those whose progress in life is not as brisk as others.
10. Finally and most importantly, we regard Britain as a land of equal opportunity and fairness, clearly this is at odds with your underlying ideology.

As a consequence we are unable to accept your offer, but the following countries have stated they admire your principles and will accept you:

a, North Korea.
b. Iran.
c.Republic of China (no debtors please)
d. Albania.

Every other western civilized industrialized nation has some form of universal healthcare with some level of government involvement.

Obamacare is on the extremely conservative restrictive end of that, too.

The right is left to wallow in their own filth while the rest of the world passes them by.

So I was thinking about this last night.
When did America get so very scared?

We used to be badasses... I mean we elected Teddy for god's sake... he was a madman with a perchance for killing bears with his teeth and he invented parkour for all intents and purposes. Jackson who was a big fan of duels... hell, the USSR sent a little beeping ball into orbit so we claimed the moon, because Fark You, that's why.

All that American Exceptionalism used to kinda be valid. We did amazing things, and kicked a lot of ass in the process. Now we're afraid of every damned thing in the world and still try to be the badass.

I'm thinking it was the cold war that started it... where we learned to be scared. Then the media took advantage of that, and has kept us there ever since, because fear makes them money.

The FreeRepublicans are really wringing their hands over this election. Just from a glance over their website, they are:

- praying that America is not counted among Israel's enemies and that the liberal media will not deceive America
- blaming Evangelical Christians for not voting and allowing America to "plunge into darkness" (Freepers aren't very good at subtlety)
- still questioning Obama's past
- finally coming to terms with Nate Silver
- blaming Chris Christie/saying it's his fault that Obama won
- celebrating the possibility that meth may help fight influenza (yo Mr. White Power, let's cook)
- complaining about Joe "Sweet Jesus" Scarborough telling Republicans to stop blaming "LIBERAL MEDIA" for all their problems
- Obama won because "Romney didn't offer the Ghetto Slugs enough freebies" (Freepers are really bad at subtlety)
- talking about an armed robber who told a store clerk to vote for Obama, which is just a microcosm of the new Obama America where Obama thugs can take everything you own in the name of Obama (I wish I was kidding)

I would continue, but I'd get brain damage.

Aquapope: UNC_Samurai: To be fair, you can read a legitimate scholar like AJP Taylor and conclude that the Second World War was unnecessary...if there had been a better peace process after the First World War.

Which is a stupid thing to say. The Civil War wouldn't have been necessary if the Founding Fathers had made slavery unconstitutional (but they didn't). Christianity wouldn't have happened if Joseph had throttled that bastard Jesus when he found out his virgin wife (???) had been diddling a deity. The dog would have caught the rabbit if he hadn't stopped to take a crap.

It's plenty easy to say things would have been different if only things had been different.

It's not stupid. Taylor said that the Second World War was caused by a series of political blunders stemming from the Versailles Treaty. The peace agreement was negotiated during an armistice where German armies were still holding on to portions of France and nearly all of Belgium. The major parties came into that negotiation with very different understandings of their military situation. Britain and France considered themselves to have won a decisive military victory; Germany obviously thought otherwise, but their role in the negotiations was pre-determined by the British and the French. All of the give-and-take was over how best to put punitive measures on Germany, and they were expected to sit there and be thankful for even being allowed in the room.

Wilson told Clemenceau and George that imposing penalties on Germany without attempting to rebuild Europe's economy as a whole would have consequences. They didn't listen, and insisted on methods of reparations that caused hyperinflation in Germany in the 1920s. Combine economic collapse with the fact that the German public was increasingly misled about how the war was progressing only to be shocked back to reality in 1918-1919, and they went looking for people to blame and other people to fix the country. They got a political opportunist who eventually saw weakness in Western European foreign policy and responded with rather reckless expansionism to fix the slights, both perceived and real, of the terms of Versailles.

It just so happened that this political opportunist was the backbone of a political party with a radically dangerous social agenda. But if not Hitler, some other demagogue would have exploited that power vacuum. And you can go back further and further and blame Wilhelm, or even Bismarck, but there was an opportunity at Versailles to prevent kicking major economic and security problems down the road. But Clemenceau was too scared of seeing another large scale invasion, so he sewed the seeds of it happening again. Lloyd George was so desperate to repair the economy of his empire that he helped create the conditions by which it would be nearly bankrupted again. And Wilson's hubris allowed political opposition both in Versailles and in the U.S. Senate to undermine his ability to create an international organization that emerged from a second global conflict twenty years later.

Contrast that with American political leaders seeking compromise to form a government. They were able to hammer out compromises on a lot of things, including an eventual expiration to the international slave trade, but removing the economic backbone of four states (and parts of two others) was never going to be on the table. You couldn't prevent or cause a war in 1787; you could certainly make it more likely in 1820, 1845, 1850, and 1859.

No matter how furious I was with the Bush Administration, I never slandered my home country. I questioned intentions and motives, but never threw the entire country under the bus. And I would have moved to a more liberal country, like the United Kingdom, Australia or Canada. I don't understand a conservative wanting to more to a more liberal country.

Those people are dumb. We should point and laugh at them.

However it is true that the Democrats will probably lose the Senate in 2014 .... If the Teabaaggers don't gift wrap if for them, again.

I don't know about that. They were actually on the defending side in this election. 2014 is fairly evenly split; the Democrats have a couple more seats to defend than the Republicans, but not many.

Actually, 2008 was a year of modest gains in the Senate, so the Dems will have more to defend in 2014.

soakitincider: debt is aproblem; do you think people should live outside of their means and rack up debt on credit cards? the government should not be operating in that way either.

Government debt (especially in a sovereign nation's own currency) is a completely different animal from personal debt. Among other things, national income is much more variable than a person's income typically is (and it grows as the economy grows).

Right now the world as a whole, and even the US economy itself (Google "deleveraging"; total US debt including government and the private sector is DOWN) wants to save on net - a good bit of this is from demographic transitions. The world financial system revolves around US government debt being a baseline safe place to save. (Other currencies and/or governments either have much bigger problems (e.g. the Euro) or aren't nearly big enough to soak up all of it (e.g. Switzerland)).

So there will always be a need for the US to have some debt. Is the current level of debt too high? The answer to that question is the opposite of the answer to the question "is the world willing to loan us arbitrarily large amounts of money at tiny-to-slightly-negative interest rates?"

I just bumped into one of these a$$wipes in a local shop. We used to live in the same area. We ended up on the same aisle. I saw him looking at me and I made the mistake of trying to be nice. I committed the horrific crime of saying "Hi, how are you?" I tried to steer the conversation to the non-controversial topic of baking cookies. I guess that was proof that I am a fascist-commie-socialist. After commenting that "it's not uncommon for American women to have five or six abortions", this guy started yelling at me and went old school racist in a public place. I walked out. I'm seriously regretting not waiting in the parking lot to cuss him out. I have always tried to be kind to this guy whenever I've bumped into him. Now, I know how much he appreciates my efforts.

While I don't live in the east coast states so take this for what its worth, but I think the necessary demographic changes are happening in much faster in Texas than they are in Georgia, the Carolinas, etc. Hell, had they sent resources here this year, Paul Sadler would have beaten Ted Cruz

McCain won Texas by less than 1 million, Romney won by about 1 million. Over the next four years, we are projected to grow by more than 2 million, and this growth statistically will vote more democrat than republican. If the next nominee has as good a ground game as Obama and makes people realize a Dem vote isn't a throw away vote, they will take Texas.

If the Dems succeed beyond their wildest dreams and take both Carolinas and Georgia in one fell swoop, they would get 40 EVs Taking a very winnable Texas gets 38.

Of course this all assumes the GOP does not moderate itself, but even if they do, its gonna take at least a generation before the Hispanics here start voting GOP in any significant numbers.

The big problem is the general ignorance of the population down here. Most of the people either have NO news or only Fox/Rush.

Yeah, but even that is, admittedly slowly, turning. After the primary debacle, Republicans actually turned on Perry. There were loads of conservative who actually didn't want to vote for Cruz. The "lets gut education for the rainy day fund" actually has people upset. Like I said, it's going to take a ground game on the level of Obama to spread the word/info, but if any group of Democrats should have excited enough/have the energy to handle it, it should be the one who has had to live in and now has the opportunity to turn Texas

Hey maybe they can time it with our inviting in Puerto Rico. We wouldn't even have to fix our flag.

//Though with the loss of Texas electoral college vote, the Republicans couldn't win another election this century.

Chuck Todd said last night that with the changing demographics, in 2016 Georgia, Texas and Arizona will be battleground states.

Imagine the hard-line Republicans' reaction when they have to move to the center to keep GA and TX in play.

I don't see Texas coming into play presidentially for a couple reasons:
1) The Democrats don't need Texas, it would be a nice feather in their cap and pprobably finish off the current GOP forcing them to change course or die, but by then the election is already over.
2) The Democrats have basically no ground game in Texas, they are better off focusing resources on marching down the east coast, securing North Carolina, Virginia and Florida and taking the battle to South Carolina and Georgia or smaller states like Nevada.
3) If the GOP realigns itself it will do it in such a way as to keep Texas fairly safe (take socially conservative Hispanics from the Democrats while giving up racists that won't vote Democratic).

However for the Senate, only the second point is a major difficulty and I would expect more resources to go to the Texas Senate race in 2014 (and House races in 2014 and 16) to build up a ground game for an actual challenge in 2018 (barring any fundamental shifts, of course). The big problem here is the next two Texas senatorial elections are midterm, which typically hurts Democrats.

If the Democrats want to do anything with Castro outside of San Antonio, they are going to need a ground game here anyway. There is no gender gap on views on abortion among Hispanics or among all voters, according to national exit polling. About two-thirds of men (64%) and Latino women (67%) would permit legal abortion, as would 58% of all male voters nationally and 60% of women.

Catholics preferred Obama by 50% to 48% in this election.

That's a smaller margin than in Obama's win over McCain, but if there's any discernible pattern to Catholic voting is that it looks pretty much the same as the country as a whole.

Furthermore, Hispanics are supposed to be big on "family values", yet they already reject the self-styled party of family values. Hmmm, maybe Hispanics aren't generally social values voters?

There is one other big reason this argument doesn't hold water. If Hispanics follow the same pattern as every previous immigrant group, each successive generation born here will be less conservative, less religious, more English-as-first-language, and less distinguishable in every way from the rest of the melting pot.

Both parties, but especially Republicans, need to stop thinking of "Hispanics" as being in any way a homogeneous bloc that can be described as "typical" anything. How far the Republicans are from this is their belief that a Miami-born Cuban-American is appealing to Hispanics.

Chuck Todd said last night that with the changing demographics, in 2016 Georgia, Texas and Arizona will be battleground states.

Imagine the hard-line Republicans' reaction when they have to move to the center to keep GA and TX in play.

I just can't picture it: TEXAS a battleground state. It feels like a fanfic.

Or the Republicans will go even MORE full retard, and the Teabaggers will cost them the Senate for a THIRD time, and possibly the House as well.

The Republican party is splitting. The moderates have abandoned ship, and the greedy kleptocrats and insane theocrats are fighting a civil war. Plus, the old white people are dying off, and the GOP has alienated every other demographic with their lunacy.

The party is dying. But an elephant in its death throes is a dangerous thing; Hopefully, the American people can keep the damage to a minimum.

Tough shiat we don't want you .. I know you're normally choking on your American exceptionalism cock and aren't big on knowing/caring about other countries but let me assure you:

Any politician who even mentions Jesus has just signed their political suicide note

We're not big on banning abortions.. under the it's-none-of-our-farking-business-I'm-cooking-stew clause.

Our press still have (just) enough integrity to make an issue when a politician is canvassing for something the complete opposite of what they said a week before.

America was formed in the first place from bigots who couldn't get their way here .. I guess history is as big an unknown unknown as geography.

We're not that big fans of the Royal Family but generally cba to change it.

I fully support this course of action provided that we close up our military bases first. If the great nation Teajas wants a military they can buy or build it themselves.

Can you imagine? Without all the teabaggers to pander to the Republicans might actually attempt to negotiate in good faith on policy, the House would shift towards a Democratic majority and the Senate would have close to a Democratic supermajority. It would be like driving down the freeway while dragging a refrigerator and finally cutting it loose.

More flailing from conservative sore losers. I love the presumption that the Queen of England would even be interested in an apology or any contact by conservatives. I would not be surprised she is of the opinion that it is an God Slinger Right Winger problem and beneath her station to deal with petty political whining. Of course, this is saying this is a real letter written by a conservative with enough clout for it to be taken seriously as opposed to yet another unhinged and liquored up ranter throwing a hissy fit.

I hope conservatives keep up the steady stream of posts like this. After 4 years of right-wing-nut bullshiat about the president, the country, dog-whistle politics and Christian sponsored misogyny, schadenfreude pie is quite tasty. I will not tire of the taste for few weeks at least.
