No. No he isn't. He is posing for a picture well before the election to make it look like he is working closely with his transition team.

He must have REALLY thought he was going to win. No concession speech prepared and this site.

Hilarious.

I wonder what color drapes Ann had picked out? Did it match the carpet?

He was VERY confident of himself. I don't know if I'd call it arrogance or delusion but...its becoming increasingly clear that Romney never even considered the possiblity that he was going to lose. which implies some rather interesting flaws in how he ran his campaign.

Well when god himself is beaming you telepathic messages from the planet Kolob telling you you're destined to be the President I guess you truly can't see any other option.

Neither did his advisors. Her surrounded himself with yes men, and they were happy to tell him and anyone else who would listen that they were going to win in a landslide.

He started the transition team on June 4. Link

That's CRAZY early - that appointment is usually announced after the election. And note that his first "appointment" - the guy who fills in all the other blanks - was a Mormon. I think Mitt was groomed from an early age for the campaign by his family like he was destined to fulfill a prophesy. Losing was impossible.

Mitt seems to have picked people because they were Mormon above other factors. Dude who ran the campaign in my part of Florida was a Mormon kid who took a semester off from law school to work for the campaign. I'm told by mutual friends that he's a really nice guy, but a kid who was barely old enough to vote last time around and just finished his first year of law school is probably not the person who should be running a major part of your ground game in a battleground state.

Yea, it's a bit bizarre actually. I... I'm not quite sure what was going on there. I hope someone defects and writes a book about the campaign.

It's a brave thing to transition so late in life, especially as a Republican.

I'll be fair, I think it's pretty standard to have stuff like this set up and ready to go ASAP. The fact that it actually, briefly, went live was obviously a mistake.

Maybe he really believed he was going to win, he was destined to win. He is an arrogant asshole. But he had a good hour or two to think about that concession speech once it was clear how things were going, and that was plenty of time.

Preparing a "transition" website in advance of a political victory is foresight, not arrogance.

Not preparing a concession speech is arrogance, not foresight.

Believing that Mr. Romney had not prepared a concession speech requires believing that Mr. Romney did not lie when he claimed not to have done so. Given Mr. Romney's record on honesty, I am uncertain.

Honestly, I think it's responsible. I don't know why it would be hooked up and "live" until after everything was offical. But the idea that his campaign was capable of planning for future events is at this point a shocking revelation.

Above all, I'm wondering if Mitt Romney will keep one of his campaign promises. You know the one... the one where he says he'll give up politics for good if he loses.

This is hardly "sad." The costs very little to have a transition team -- a drop in the bucket next to what they were actually spending. And if he had won, having that web created and having some preparation for various transition-related chores would have been an great help. It would certainly effect the success of the administration in its early months.

I hope that all major-party nominees do the same in the future.

/Still glad he did not get to use his preparations.

not writing a concession speech was hilarious.

Creating a website (probably months before the election) in case he wins, is just common sense. Personally, I'd be laughing if he hadn't done this.

The most amusing part about this is when the site mentions that the last January 21st inaugurations were for Reagan and Eisenhower as if that farking matters or makes the man (not gonna be Romney) inaugurated on that day like them in some way.

"I leave you gentleman now. You will now write it; you will interpret it; that's your right. But as I leave you I want you to know.... just think how much you're going to be missing. You don't have Romney to kick around any more, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference, and I hope that what I have said today will at least make television, radio, the press recognize that they have a right and a responsibility, if they're against a candidate give him the shaft, but also recognize if they give him the shaft, put one lonely reporter on the campaign who'll report what the candidate says now and then. Thank you, gentlemen, and good day."
