Well... good news for Mitch... if he commits himself to preventing Obama from getting ANOTHER term he might just pull that off this time.

Dusk-You-n-Me: Political Science 101: The Grand Bargain is the sort of thing you might be forced into if you DIDN'T just kick ass in a national election.- David Waldman (@KagroX) November 7, 2012

Obama campaigned on raising taxes on the rich and walked to reelection. Dems are already bending over.

Obama has a 52% approval rating. When Congress has an approval rating higher than Jerry Sandusky, they can ask Obama for permission to offer an opinion once and awhile.

I want Boehner and McConnell sitting in a room at the White House when, suddenly, they hear someone whistling "The Farmer in the Dell" on the other side of the door.

Slowly the door opens and Barack Obama, dressed in a long black duster and body armor, walks in. He stares into their eyes for a moment, reaches into a side pocket, pulls out a pack of Newports (soft pack), puts one to his lips, lights it, takes a long drag, blows smoke in their direction and says in a deep voice: "The Cheese stands alone."

The sneer is gone from Mitten's lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;
He pounds with cruel violence upon his blonde and vapid mate.
And now the media gives the results, and admits Nate Silver's right,
And now the GOP is shattered by the force of Obama's night.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Freeperville - mighty Mittens has struck out.

For what it's worth, they did make it. They really did. No matter how many times they almost slipped over the line, they never formally crossed the Ni-*CLANG* Event Horizon. Codewords, dog whistles, outright racism and hilarious trackbacks (blah people? really?) but when push comes to shove they managed to grit their teeth and not say that word on national TV for like a whole year.

I will admit: I didn't think they'd do it.

He was perfect tactic. He just has to invite each Republican Representative individually to the White House. Get one photo shaking hands with them. Later, E-mail them the photo and promise never to release if they play ball. Or you will release it with a voice over as an official endorsement.

It is very good that you are refusing to work with the President once again. There are many enemies of our country depending upon people like you who would rather watch our country burn for idealism. It will save much effort on their behalf. Good Christians like you should consider how your actions affect others. Now instead of them affecting us from the outside you can do the work for them on the inside. Patriots like you would have saved countless British lives during the revolution days.

clowncar on fire: Tigger: clowncar on fire: Keizer_Ghidorah: Obama gave him 98% of what he wanted, reached out to him and the right many times, and how does Mitch repay him? With even more biatching, whining, demanding 100%, and complaining about Obama being "too far left", never mind that for Republicans "too far left" is anything to the left of center-right. And now here Mitch is, saying he'll do whatever it takes to keep America, THE COUNTRY HE LIVES IN AND HELPS DECIDE ON IMPORTANT MATTERS, as much as a shiathole as he can out of spite, anger, and hate, which was his policy for the last four years.

Fark you, Mitch. You're the very definition of a traitor. Instead of being a spiteful little biatch, try working on helping to fix this country. And that goes to all of your obstructionist Republicans out there.

Repub here- I'm not claiming him as one of ours. take him if you must.

You can't just say you don't 'claim as one of your own' the most senior elected rebuplican official in the country.

It's like being Catholic and not claiming the pope as your own.

So you're telling me it's not possible to retain a set of values or a philosophy but reject its leader as you don't feel he best represents those values?
Mitch uses the title of republican but i don't believe he acts in my best interests- he's all yours to do with as you wants.

Then you're not a republican. congrats - go get debriefed by Weaver95 to begin your new life in civilised society.

InmanRoshi: quiotu: But here's the funny part about the sequestration... as several accountants have explained on their own blogs: it doesn't help the debt. It's a punishment, not a plan. The discretionary budget can only cut back costs so much, in fact you could eliminate the discretionary budget entirely, and it wouldn't get rid of all the deficit. Sequestration and the Bush Tax Cuts expiring would actually make serious progress, albeit in a way that'll be rough for pretty much everyone. Both matters are a pissing match where Obama holds every advantage.

I also think Republicans are going to have to go to Obama hat in hand and play ball to get some version of Immigration Reform/DREAM Act passed that they can hang their hat on and present to latino voters in 2016, because they absolutely got annihilated by the latino vote last night and the demographics are not going to get any better four years from now.

Most of the reporting I've read today on John Boehner's post-election messaging on the Bush tax cuts is too savvy and inside baseball to correctly convey what's happening. So here's what's happening. The Bush tax cuts are scheduled to fully expire at the end of the year. Barack Obama does not favor this large tax increase and is proposing substitute legislation that would reduce taxes relative to current law. House Republicans are refusing to pass this tax cut, claiming to believe that they'd rather have a larger tax hike and retain the ability to whine than to strike a deal. Link

Mitch McConnell's new goal is to ensure the Democrats are a two-term party.

The general consensus is that the economy is going to improve over the next four years, and if the GOP doesn't do everything in its power to make the 2nd Obama administration look ineffectual and extreme, then they will have to deal with 4-8 years of Hillary. Not only does that prospect scare the bejeezus out of them, but the older conservative Supreme Court justices just can't hold out for another 8-12 years.
