dericwater: Obama will not compromise with the right this term.

Obama has to work with Congress to accomplish any goals and half of Congress is the House. He will have to accommodate some of their wishes. Obama is in a much stronger bargaining position now. The Republicans have to go through him to get tax cuts they want. 50% of Sequestration is supposed to target defense spending. If a republican wants to save some jobs in their district, they'll need to work with Obama. Obama is in a much stronger position than last term but he will need to comprise.

The more I think about this, the GOP plan was to ensure Obama wasn't reelected. They had no Plan B.

Mutherfarkers lost the election 332 - 209, still don't have the Senate, and they're STILL acting like they set the agenda.

Fark them. Elections have consequences. Period.

Please proceed, Senator.

That's great.

I wonder if the Senator is aware that the things he doesn't want to happen will happen unless he comes to the table wherever Obama decides to set it up?

It's now official- end of days is nigh.

And Barr beat Chandler. I swear, if I ever meet whoever came up with all the lying, misleading, fearmongering fliers that the Barr campaign kept sending me leading up to the election I will punch them in the face.

The Presidential race county-by-county results for KY were quite amusing though in a sad way... Just a few lonely blue counties in a sea of red- and yet those small counties accounted for about 2/5 of the total population. :p

Muta: InmanRoshi: The Bush tax cuts completely expire without Obama having to lift a finger, much less meet McConnell halfway.

A trillion will be be cut from the budget -- including defense -- unless everyone plays nice. That was the 98% of what Boner wanted.

A trillion over 10 years, half of that is military spending, to be exact.

The worst possible scenerio for Democrats that both sides have to eat shiat on a deal. The difference is, Democrats are well familiar with the taste after years and years of horrible, horrible, horrible negotations on their part. The GOP can't just hold the country hostage with a gun to it's head and get everything they want this time.

It's either that, or - stay with me - he's got a foolproof plan to make sure Obama is only a two-term president.

I already said in another thread today the Republicans are going to fight Obama on everything. They will do so to the point they will get blown out in '14 and lose the House and possibly more Senate seats. They will also put themselves in a bad spot for '16

dericwater: Obama will not compromise with the right this term. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. He knows the meaning of compromise by the right: accept our plans or you're not compromising. So he will fight back.

According to last night's election results, he'll be out numbered and probably not get much done without some sort of compromise. I think the whole point of playing fill in the blanks (or poking the touchscreen) was that all Americans would have a chance at representation by their elected officials. Sadly, not all these elected members are not going to necessarily reflect your view on how things should be run, nor will they always reflect the POTUS desires. That's trhe beauty of a republic- ALL of us get a say through our elected officials, not just the ones who voted for Obama. Seems like all that counting would have become a pointless endeavor if Barry was just gonna wander off and do whatever the hell he saw fit; definitely counter productive to compromise and progression.

James!: I wonder if there are any rules changes that could be pushed through at the beginning of next term that might hinder the GOP obstruction efforts.

Obama could just rule via executive order and signing statement. Seemed to work like a charm for the last guy.

For what it's worth, they did make it. They really did. No matter how many times they almost slipped over the line, they never formally crossed the Ni-*CLANG* Event Horizon. Codewords, dog whistles, outright racism and hilarious trackbacks (blah people? really?) but when push comes to shove they managed to grit their teeth and not say that word on national TV for like a whole year.

I will admit: I didn't think they'd do it.

That's probably what will happen. McConnell knows he's on the chopping block in 2014. And if he thinks backing a losing Tea Party will gain him any favors, he's sadly mistaken. I'm half surprised the GOP hasn't thrown him and Boehner out of power for this fiasco.

Most of the reporting I've read today on John Boehner's post-election messaging on the Bush tax cuts is too savvy and inside baseball to correctly convey what's happening. So here's what's happening. The Bush tax cuts are scheduled to fully expire at the end of the year. Barack Obama does not favor this large tax increase and is proposing substitute legislation that would reduce taxes relative to current law. House Republicans are refusing to pass this tax cut, claiming to believe that they'd rather have a larger tax hike and retain the ability to whine than to strike a deal. Link

Dusk-You-n-Me: EighthDay: n all fairness, Boehner (or Cantor, however you want to spin it) controls the House.

There has to be some level of agreement between both sides.

Now, my opinion has always been that there are enough Republicans in the House who would go along with a moderate bill to pass, but Boehner still is the one who controls the docket.

Also, the WH and Senate Ds haven't agreed to anything. I was being a bit pessimistic.

And rightly so - the Dems bending over backwards for the past four years has been pretty consistent.

The Dems do have the upper hand in this negotiation, so hopefully they'll use it.

Right now, does the GOP really know who is in charge? Those that heralded the arrival of the now-deposed Tea Party? The obstructionists that guaranteed a one term President? The moderates that warned them this would happen?

So who do we need to elect in the next go-around to ensure that the "bussing" issue is finally staked and buried properly. Something is wrong when your city has the second largest bus centric public education system and yet you don't break the top 20 in urban population.

Well, let them expire, then instruct the IRS by executive order to collect less tax as needed. Not sure that such an order can be given though.

I read Woodward's book ... it's prettty obvious the GOP Congress care more worried about what they'll tell their Derpy Districts back home than they actually were about striking a comprehensive deal. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see it play out exactly this way. The Derpy Congress folk can go back home in 2014 and say "Don't look at me, I stood tall fer teh Derp and refused to negotiate."

Personally, I have no problem with letting the Bush taxcuts completely expire and letting the sequestration go into effect. The media goes on and on about how "substantial" changes need to be made and we can't just "kick the can down the road" and that the debt is by far the single biggest issue facing the country, but now they're all running around like maniacs trembling at the possibility that it might actually really happen.

I always thought, the first time around, that Obama should've just told the republicans "fine, you want 100% spending decrease, 0% revenue increase. I want 0% spending 100% revenue. The middle is 50/50 and that's our starting point." He shouldn't have set 90/10 as the starting point of negotiations.

Fall on your sword for you party and country.

I wish EVERY SINGLE TIME a reporter talks to McConnell from now until eternity, no matter WHAT the subject is, that this quote is repeated followed by the question: "If you failed in the single most important thing you needed to do, why have you not resigned and left politics in disgrace?"
