I, for one, cannot explain why women wouldn't vote for people who say rape babies are a gift from God. It says they are in the Bible! Why do women hate Jesus? It must be because the candidates weren't conservative enough.

It astounds me how rational Michael Steele has become since losing his job as RNC chair. I actually look forward to seeing him on the Real Time panel.

Which is pretty incredible if the widespread reports of Republican enthusiasm and GOTV reaching levels not seen in at least a decade are accurate...perhaps it goes to show we cannot lose 70%+ of the minority vote anymore.

"it's an issue when the candidate can't figure out how to articulate the pro-life position in a way that doesn't creep the hell out of every woman in the country"

That's simply because the GOP's pro-life position creeps the hell out of every woman in the country. "Articulation" won't help them.

Did anyone read the linked redstate article. At first he seems to get it by talking about needing to win Latino's and Women back. Then this...

FTD: Sadly, Mitt Romney was right about the 47%. Those who Obama had plied with handouts weren't going to vote against the man filling their pocket. The tragedy is, it's our fault the 47% became as high as 47%. We thought there were enough voters left who put their country before their benefits. We were wrong. It turns out that Governor Romney was right-the 47% couldn't be campaigned to, because Big Government Democrats did their campaigning through food stamps, Obamaphones and entitlements. The only question now is, where do we go from here? And, how do we get the groups that allowed this incompetent President to run up his margins in places?

Wow..

Well, good for RedState for trying to figure out this mess using intelligence and analysis. I truly hope that what comes out of this is a wake up call to the Republicans that their party is going to slowly decay and rot unless they figure who they are NOW. They no longer have blacks on their side, and the ones that are technically still Republicans (like Steele or Powell) seem to favor a return back to the more moderate party. They are quickly losing women to some scary views on abortion and general sexism. If they aren't careful, they are going to lose key demographics like Cubans. (Cubans were almost split 47/50 this election.)

Unfortunately, with how close the race was on the popular vote side, I think the GOP is going to continue down their path until they experience a Reagan-esque landslide. Which is sad, because there's good conversations to be had about the differences between the sizes of government and conservatism in general.

Moderates: It's your job to try to flush this mess out of your party. Or you could form a new party, but I don't think if that would survive long-term.

One of the Koch bros was an LP VP candidate back in the 80s(90s?)

but yeah, this country is ripe for new parties. Both the LP and GP are in the right place. The problem is will anyone unlock the door for them.

Sadly, I doubt it.

No. Instead he's into the "bow before Mammon, worthless plebians" gospel espoused by Republican Party leaders. Which is actually even more dangerous.

If the tycoons and plutocrats can't get their shiat together because the Frankenstein's Monster they stitched together out of fundies and rednecks can't stop rape-raping them long enough to put together a coherent campaign, I'm fine with that.

In the 2012 nominee race for the Republicans there were quite a few candidates, obviously with some big names like Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and eventual nominee Mitt Romney.

However, the most noteworthy name was Ron Paul. Not because of his 'libertarian' ideals, but because of what the ramifications of his run means.

I firmly believe that in 2016 there will be the biggest opportunity for
3rd party candidates to make a dent in the national elections. I believe that Ron Paul was campaigning for delegates to get early groundwork laid for his son, Rand, to make a run at the presidency. However, as the republicans continue to get pulled further to the fringe by some groups, there will be a split in the Republican camp, with the more centrist members (some grudgingly) shifting their allegiace to the Libertarian party, who will more than likely nominate Rand as their candidate. The rest of the standard republican base, people like conservative christians, will continue to identify with the standard republican name. Id argue that this would, theoretically, split the 'conservative' vote, and while in the short term it would be beneficial for the Democrats (Id expect them to take the 2016 election), the shift in national exposure signals a new wave of voter interest in other parties, and the face of the national political system breaks from the traditional 2 party system as a new party begins to move into the 'big 2' to take place of the Republican party as it eats itself alive.

In the meantime, more voters who identify with the Democrats take the opportunity as a 'safe' election to vote in more people in 3rd parties, like the Green and Justice party, at the local levels, which lays a foundation for these candidates to become viable national candidates. While it could take a long while, Id gander another decade or so, we could realistically be seeing the end of traditional 2 party politics, and while we wont ever really see the 'true' end of it, we could be seeing more of a trend towards our previous governments, where specific parties get a dozen or so representatives in national elections and influence policy.

This is an exciting time coming out of this election. Im excited to see if the face of American politics can truly change.

The hyper-rich remains hyper-rich because they set the regulations. Why would they ever want to go with a political leaning that favors the free market?

The only reason Romney lost is because the country is stupid. Republicans, if you want my advice, it's time to purge the non believers from the party. They're holding you back. No more of this moderate shiat, we need you guys to prove you are real conservatives.

You guys have to go balls to the wall next time. Really beat that 47% line home about how worthless half of the country is. Also you guys totally missed your chance to go after Obama on the big things like the birth certificate and secret Muslimism.
