(Shadowlocked)   Awesome new trailer for BSG: Blood & Chrome makes case that Star Wars is not the space opera franchise you're looking for. Well, for the next 3 years. But Blood & Chrome premieres online Friday. Yes, already. That was fast. Almost Faster Than Light   (shadowlocked.com) divider line 75
More: Cool, BSG, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Battlestar, Blood & Chrome, space operas, faster than light, premieres

Sigh.

This trailer is ancient. This project was in development before syfy pulled the plug on Caprica. There is no series coming, just this pilot, which will be busted up into "webisodes" before syfy runs it once inbetween repeats of Sharkbama vs Giant Hemorrhoid. Then they;ll release an "unrated" version on home video as a chas grab.

fark them.

Addendum: That actually is a new trailer, and it does look awesome, but syfy's handling of this is a travesty.

Epic Fail!

They have totally farked over the BSG franchise. First Craprica sucked donkey balls then they bail on Blood and Chrome. They could have ridden the franchise for multiple series over decades, but no, they would fark up a metal ball with a rubber mallet.

Guess we'll have to continue to fap to the DVDs whenever Starbuck comes on the screen.

/sigh! misses my BSG

Can someone explain to me a couple of things:

Were some of the human hybrid cylons once people who some how transferred themselves into robot bodies through that virtual reality program thingee?

What happened to the whole 'bow of Athena(?)' thing that Starbuck found?

What happened to the one black guy from the Razor special dvd? He's buddies with Adama and is welcomed back to the fleet after being gone so long then just disappears?

I loved BSG but the last season, especially the last 2 episodes were horrible. Starbuck is an angel? WTF?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I'm fine with that if it means better quality. I was impressed with the Forward Unto Dawn Halo webisodes that were put up on Machinima. If they do it with Blood and Chrome, it will probably be just as enjoyable.

Because syfy has discovered it's easier and cheaper and much more profitable to simply run ghost hunters and wrasslin' and similar shows and make an absolute killing on profit, as opposed to spending a ton of cash on writers and actors and special effects and things like that.

I disagree. The first 1-2 seasons were great sci-fi, some of the best in recent years.

The last 1-2 seasons demonstrated that the writers did zero planning ahead. Seriously, they had less of a plan than they guys from Lost.

LOLWUT? Disco Mormons in Space was better than the remake?

Why SyFy didn't use a new BSG series to act as "Loss Leader" to at least add value to their crappy hybrid-monster shows and random ghost-based series is beyond me. At least it would create a mild petina of legitimacy.

What makes the cancellation of this show so odd is that it was cancelled in development. It wasn't even aired, and they said no. (There was a rough version aired for execs...) So It either A) sucks REALLY bad, B) Was too expensive as compared to Mansquito-shows or C) A combo of the two previous points.

I assume the Arrow of Apollo was left in the antechamber to the Tomb of Athena after it was used to open the tomb. It was essentially useless after that anyway, but I would have kept it for a museum piece.

What happened to the one black guy from the Razor special dvd? He's buddies with Adama and is welcomed back to the fleet after being gone so long then just disappears?
At the end of the episode, he left the military and went to live on another ship.

Sounds like you're talking about BSG 2.0, otherwise known as SG:U

I liked BSG. The first 2 seasons are great, the last few make a few things unravel and start to fall apart a bit, but they're still ok. The final 4 or so episodes were just stupid. And I don't just mean the "God did it" type stuff.

SyFy made half a billion last year because they changed their model from "expensive Science Fiction" to "cheap B grade schlock".

They cancelled B&C because they figured out that the audience wouldn't watch it on SyFy - they'd watch it on torrent. SyFy's original model was to make money off broadcast and DVD sales (this funded SG1 for 10 years) - except DVD sales cratered during SG: Atlantis's run. Atlantis (and a lot of other stuff that SyFy made) isn't cost effective without the DVD back end that SG1 had.

When people stopped buying DVD boxed sets (mostly because they could torrent a season and keep it on their hard drive), SyFy had to change their business model to survive. They did. They cancelled stuff like Eureka and moved into stuff like Crocosaurus.

People are playing around with other models - such as creating TV that ties into MMOs - but in the long run expensive stuff only gets made if there is an audience that will pay enough for it to recoup production costs.

I may be an anomaly, but I'd buy the physical media if the pricing for seasons of a show were reasonable.

Caprica started off slow as hell, but it really came together well in the last few episodes, and it ended on a really strong episode that I thought set things up well. They just spent way too long getting to the point of the story.

There was some good potential there that was wasted. What I would have loved to have seen was Adama's lawyer father fighting for Cylon rights when a faction of them tries to use legal means as a last ditch effort to become recognized as sentient beings. When he fails to sway the courts, the Cylons are left with no other choice but to take up arms. It would be a much better way to use that character than having him doing mobster shiat with his brother, which just seemed a pointless distraction in the story.

/The whole Bill Adama switcheroo was just stupid, though.

It probably didn't help that season 4 got farked up by the writer's strike. And didn't they basically think the show was over at one point but then got a surprise renewal? I seem to recall someone saying they wrote the episode where they found the destroyed "Earth" as the end of the series.

Though I agree that they did a pretty thorough job of writing themselves into a corner near the end.

ActionJoe: Great_Milenko: Sigh.

This trailer is ancient. This project was in development before syfy pulled the plug on Caprica. There is no series coming, just this pilot, which will be busted up into "webisodes" before syfy runs it once inbetween repeats of Sharkbama vs Giant Hemorrhoid. Then they;ll release an "unrated" version on home video as a chas grab.

fark them.

I'm fine with that if it means better quality. I was impressed with the Forward Unto Dawn Halo webisodes that were put up on Machinima. If they do it with Blood and Chrome, it will probably be just as enjoyable.

This has been in the can for at least a year already. They were just arguing about how to best fark over the fans. At one point they were going to only run it in England.

And they wonder why people torrent...

I am Wee Todd Ed: Can someone explain to me a couple of things:

Were some of the human hybrid cylons once people who some how transferred themselves into robot bodies through that virtual reality program thingee?

This series was supposed to answer those questions.

What happened to the whole 'bow of Athena(?)' thing that Starbuck found?

The Arrow of Athena sent them to Stonehenge where they saw the night sky on Earth.

What happened to the one black guy from the Razor special dvd? He's buddies with Adama and is welcomed back to the fleet after being gone so long then just disappears

Syfy pressured the producers for self contained shows instead of longer arcs which would be, you know, good. I don't remember the end of the episode, but I think he went to live in the fleet like a regular jack off.

I loved BSG but the last season, especially the last 2 episodes were horrible. Starbuck is an angel? WTF?

Ron Moore is a hack :)

I guess I'm one of the few who loved Caprica ... and I thought SGU was the best of the franchise.

I miss sci-fi that explores Big Ideas in detail, rather than simply using those ideas as a catalyst for predictable, procedural shoot-em-ups.

So I don't know how I feel about B&C. I suppose I'm glad there's a return to the BSG 'verse, but I'm going to get bored quickly if it's merely pandering to the moar-pew-pew crowd.

1. No. The "final five" were resurrected humans, as apart from the built-from-scratch humaniforms like Caprica Six, Sharon, et al.

2. The Arrow of Apollo activated a hologram that pointed the way to Earth (though this was somewhat of a blunder, since the 13th Tribe's Earth wasn't "our" Earth).

3. Yeah, that guy vanished. A victim of the ongoing struggle between Moore and Syfy over stand-alone episodes.

4. I sort-of have a No-Prize explanation for this, but it's a lengthy stretch. Suffice to say it was intended to be a WTF thing. Not entirely happy about that loose thread, but I'm generally happy with the way the series ended. (Also what bugs me is the notion that humans evolved on separate worlds hundreds if light years apart. For this to make sense, an entire epic explanation has to be constructed from nothing. It's easier to accept the 'God did it' angle.)

To rebut the "Rom Moore is a hack" accusation, TV shows like this aren't planned from the beginning, and are written by revolving staffs torn between the desires of show-runners and networks.

They write them on the fly, and looking at the whole thing raises a ton of questions that don't have clear answers. See: The X-Files.

It's a shame; sometimes I wish good show-runners had complete autonomy, then I read articles on the completely insane ideas they had to scrap for budgetary or other reasons, and I'm glad there's some network oversight.

No show is perfect.

Bzzzzzz, wrong. They were Human form Cylons from the 13th colony that settled on Earth after leaving Kobol. The final 5 created resurrection tech because the human forms on their planet were getting ready to end up in a war with their version of Centurions. They rezzed after their planet was destroyed and traveled to the 12 colonies hoping to prevent the same thing from happening to them. In order to stop the initial Cylon war with the 12 colonies they made a deal to give the 12 colony Cylons resurrection tech, and helped them create human form Cylons.

I've never watched it (don't take my nerd card, please) but I've heard people say that the creator of Babylon 5 had a beginning-to-end plan for the show.

Not sure if that's true, though.

It is. He had a complete five-year plan, and personally wrote the scripts to several of the seasons. The problem he ran into was network commitment. He was originally told he'd get five years. Then during the fourth year he was told it would probably be the show's last. So he had to rush the story and finish it in four. Then at the last minute, he was given a renewal for a fifth season.

Also, regardless of how much you like/dislike the story progression in Lost, that was another show where the creators were pretty much given cart blanche to do whatever they wanted.

Any Pie Left: I didn't like Space: Above And Beyond, because it made zero sense to spend all that effort training fighter pilots only to send them into ground actions every other week.

all sorts of this. your fighter pilots are infantry grunts? wtf kind of Jack wagon thought up that training scheme?

/ opera house chase scene, Starbuck as an angel (not even Lucas made that leap in star wars, even if little Anakin mumbled something of the sort), mitochondrial Eve nonsense on par with Jedi mitochondria... if Lucas is a hack, how is Ron Moore not a hack?

Yeah, Cally was cute but not really hot like Six, Starbuck, Boomer, Deanna, Dee, etc.

We called her "Airman Big Eyes" because she looks like a little girl. Also she was the Chief's reluctant biatch after he lost out on Boomer. She was his "I settled for this?" chick

I always thought that was the most farked up relationship in the show, worse than the Tigh's marriage. Cally kills Chief's former lover, and Chief beats the everliving snot out of her after she wakes him in the middle of some farked up nightmare, and so they decide, hey let's get married?

Thanks for all the answers to my questions!!!

I loved that show and had a bootleg copy of all the seasons! But I watched some episodes out of order and missed some episodes entirely. I liked the idea of 'sleeper cells', the original Starbuck as a Politician/Terrorist was a great story thread, the whole Cylon and Human religious view points, and the way average people got caught up in stuff bigger than themselves. The hate humans had for cylon/hybrids and the movement to strike a peace deal with the cylons was an interesting story thread. The series was also great because main characters got killed in ways you didn't see coming. The hot black chick that blew her brains out was a big suprise. The actor who originally played Starbuck and the one Lt. being executed for treason scene was great. The look they had on their faces was priceless and haunting. They lived and survived so much and did so many heroic things only to be killed by their own people and remembered as traitors!

I just for the life of me cannot understand how the writers and producers could screw up the ending so badly!!! I watched this show along with "LOST" but a friend told me to stop after season 4 because the rest of the seasons are disappointing. Same thing with "Heroes" a great first season but half way between season 3 I stopped watching and caring. *SIGH* Hopefully GRRM doesn't fark up the ending of Song of Fire and Ice!!!

I really am surprised people didn't see the Starbuck arc coming. Anyone familiar with the original series, with the Ship of Light and Iblis, should know that the concept of God and Angels plays heavily into Battlestar Galactica. It was obvious (to me at least) that Starbuck's relationship with Leoben gave away that she had a destiny greater than human.

If you want to accuse Ron Moore of being a hack, it could only be because this isn't an original premise. The idea of being reborn at the hands of God for a higher purpose is an ancient idea. You may as well accuse Tolkein of being a hack for 'killing' Gandalf the Gray so he could return as Gandalf the White. We see her die, we see her mysteriously return in a white Viper, we find her corpse on Earth, we see her lead the people to the promised land. How can she NOT be an angel? People are OK with FTL travel and artificial gravity being unexplained in the BSG universe but get unhinged at the thought of God or some higher being working in the background. From the very beginning, Moore was smacking us in the face with religion but I think a lot of people were so caught up in the sci-fi that they insisted that God could play no role. That was self-imposed blindness, I think.

If you rewatch the series knowing what Baltar's Caprica and Carprica's Baltar really are, it adds a whole new spin on old dialog.

It's funny you should say that, I just finished rewatching the entire series last week and you're right. So much of what happens makes a shiat ton more sense when you know "God" takes an active role in the show and that Head 6 and Head Baltar really are. Knowing those things actually makes the show more palatable the second time around.

It still doesn't make certain plot silliness make sense though. Near the end when Cavil is bargaining with the Final 5 for resurrection tech if he gives Hera back makes absolutely no sense. How did they not just reverse engineer the tech while they still had it all that time? According to the show, Tigh was in the Colonial Fleet and friends with Adama for 30 or so years after Cavil erased his memory and sent him to the Colonies. That means the 12 Colonies Cylons had rez tech for at least that long if they really needed all of the final 5 together to make the rez tech initially. In all that time they didn't reverse engineer it?

Not a "Former Hotties of BSG calendar", Tricia and Katee are both motorcycle riders, and work with some of the same animal charities. This calendar is from that, not from a TV show they both worked on.
