It will be called the Monster Superstore of DOOM! (Depository of Office Materiel).

Of course, that assumes that neither WalMart nor Apple sues for trademark infringement.

Quote from a typical wage slave of DOOM!: Paperclips are aisle 182. No, not IN aisle 182. ALL of aisle 182.

Every shape and size of paperclip from silver airplanes to orange cheeseburgers. Crocodile clips, butterfly clips, regular paperclips, giant novelty paperclips, paperlclips in gold, steel, silver, titanium, plastic, and wood. Paperclips for paper, paperclips for plastic. Paperclips for art projects, and Breast Cancer paperclips in pink breast-like rubber. Even paperclip-free hole punches for people who want a green alternative to paperclips for attaching a few sheets of paper that won't be photocopied or stored permanently so it doesn't need a clip or a staple.

2012-11-07 11:39:59 AM
P.S. I mean staple-free staplers--you know--the kind that make a little tab and insert it in the little slot made by the punch, thus relieving you of the need for staples or paperclips.

This is all Sam's Club and WalMart's fault. Driving down prices on office supplies so that other companies can't compete, throw in BJ'S Wholesale and no one has a chance.
Wait, lower prices?
Nevermind

I think the perfect name for this new cooperative would be:

Massive liquidation sale.

Concept is obsolete.

I like our local Office Max. Hate the Office Depot. Office max is no pressure in and out with your stuff, thanks. Office Depot is "I'm sorry sir, but I'm not allowed to sell the laptop without the extended warranty and setup" and having the manager and 2 sales people argue with you that you must buy it, and telling you that your "laptop will explode in your car and you will be sorry".

How about, "Sucks Sucks!"

My town has max and depot right across each other, so i am getting a kick out of this.

Good, I could never tell the difference between the two. There'd be a sale at one and I'd go to the wrong one because I never remember the name of where I wanted to go.

Yeah. I'm shaking in my boots not knowing where else I can go to get inkjet paper, manila folders, floral print day planners and laminated particle board file cabinets. It's not like there's anyone out there who sells all that for less and offers free delivery.

2012-11-07 12:09:21 PM
With all of the low price guarantees, you're essentially paying the same price at all three stores, so I've always collectively called them MaxOfficeStaplesDepot.

Face it, people don't really need office supply stores anymore. You can pick up paper and pens from Walgreens/mart/the grocery store if you want. Any unique supplies can be ordered online, which I imagine most large comanies do. Plus with small businesses going bye-bye, there is no demand. Staples does okay because they bought out many mail order businesses, and stores are now a slightly less scammy version of RadioShack.

I work for one of these two brands - I'd be thrilled with a merger. I think both individually are way too small to compete with Staples. They have an illogically huge amount of momentum for being, overall, a terrible retail experience. They suck, but they have the mindshare. Combining the two chains (under the bigger OD Banner) would be huge.

Beside, it's not really Staples that is eating our lunch - it's WB Mason.

it doesn't help that staples picked up corporate express who already did metric shiat tons of direct to business office sales

This
I just called it Office Depot Max. I'll be mildly interested to see what name they come up with.

2012-11-07 02:57:44 PM
It'll be called: "Depot Office Max Office" or DOMO for short.

And they will soon be bought out by the KUN foundation.

2012-11-07 03:36:28 PM
I don't want them to do this. Office Depot has shiatty hours and prices, but Office Max(at least around me) has better hours and cheaper prices on the house brand products(which are numerous). I always worry because Office Max is always empty, but they've been there for a decade+, so obviously they're doing business somewhere.

2012-11-07 04:23:06 PM
They'll probably keep the names as no one can tell the difference anyway

This made me thing it could be called "Office Space" but the trademark whores would go ape shiat because of a movie of the same name.

Where I live the two of them can both go out of business. The nearest Staples is 60 miles away. want a Staples dammit!

THIS. There's one near my house that I've been to a dozen times, and I could not tell you which one it is.

Who in the hell actually buys a laptop at at Office Max/Depot? That's like having a suit made at one of those weird tailor shops at the airport.

And yet somehow my local office supplies store still has a nearly prime spot near main street and is still in business even after so much competition over the last 15 years or so.
