When you wake up to hearing that the American people have decided against rape as a political policy, that working classes should be represented, that prohibition is stupid, that equality should be for all people regardless and that we have another 4 years of an improving, worthwhile growth as a nation; it renews your faith in the people and this country. It's morning in America and I couldn't be happier.

Good morning, America. I missed you.

We can't win them all. At least one major tea-tard went down

And Sheriff Joe won.

I really wanted a trifecta: Obama, Penzone and Carmona. I got one. I am completely not surprised about the others. Just disappointed.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that Allen West and everyone who voted for him can fornicate themselves with an iron stick.

Mentat: The only thing that saved the GOP last night was redistricting.

Lost in this: 20-year incumbent (and Tea Partier - the guy once compared government-backed student loans to the Holocaust) Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) was defeated by John Delaney (D-MD). I guess it remains to be seen where Delaney's politics lie - he's the son of union laborers, but made his fortune in business - but this is good for Montgomery County.

Bartlett was also the "victim" of redistricting. I won't argue that it probably helped them on balance, but there are other wins.

Allen West you suck.

Allen West was unhinged. He accused Democratic Congresspeople of being literally card-carrying communists. Like that even happens nowadays. Good riddance. The average IQ of washington just went up a point.

Minnesota is a weird farking state. Urban St. Paul/Minneapolis is dark, dark blue. Rural Minnesota is light blue. Sandwhiched between them is suburbia St. Paul, so deep red they keep re-electing a Congresswoman too DERP for even Iowa GOP Primary voters to stomach.

True, but Bachmann BARELY won an election in a completely re-districted area that was designed solely to keep her elected. That's good almost any way you slice it.

At least Bachmann will be a source of amusement for the next 2 years. She's harmless at this point.

The race was hard-fought, with brutal attack ads from both candidates bankrolled in part by outside groups, who made their mark on the race.

So it's settled. Everyone likes the Citizens United Decision now.

Indeed. Sam Wang estimates it gives the Republicans a +2.5% house advantage on the overall Congressional ballot.

For now. With no national ticket to worry about, the Democratic Party can concentrate on these clowns in 2014. Bachmann's race was really close, so she's vulnerable.

sammyk: Anybody find a list of how the 2010 teaparty freshmen did? I'm hoping for a whole lot of one and done.

In Florida, Allen West (Palm Beach) lost. His 2012 district was mostly new to him.
Dan Webster (Orlando) was a freshman but I wouldn't call him a tea partier. He narrowly got to stay, in a district that was more favorable to R's than the one he was elected into in 2010. The guy he knocked out in 2010, Grayson, is now in a new neighboring district.
Dennis A. Ross (Brandon-Lakeland) is a Tea Partier, and he was unchallenged. If the Democrats had gotten someone to run, they probably would have put a lot of money behind that person, the way they put a lot of money behind their unsuccessful attempt to knock out Webster.
In the Panhandle, a Republican freshman got to stay. Don't know if he's more like Ross or more like Webster.

So by my count FL was sending 2 tea partiers to congress and is now only sending 1.

Citrate1007: Bachmann eked out a win.........farking harpy.

Bachmann had a massive cash advantage in a very red district and eked out a win by 3,937 votes out of more than 355,000. A few more wins like it and the GOP is lost.

No, for the most part the House remained unchanged.

It kind of feels like the country is settling into some form of equilibrium with respect to partisan polarization

Good; the fewer war criminals in the House, the better.

Mentat: The only thing that saved the GOP last night was redistricting.

And they've got that locked down for another 4 cycles. It'll take a rout like 2006 to see another Dem majority in the House. Which is completely backwards because the Senate is structurally favored for Republicans.

When I think about how the idiots doubled down on their rape derp, it makes me that much happier.

Last night freepers were blaming women and minorites for the victory.

Bachmann is not harmless, she would spout her idiotic venom as eithe a congress person or former congress person. Idiots listen to her and see America slipping away from them, it is not unbelievable that they may use violence to keep 'their country'.

Redistricting greatly helped Democrats in Florida. Still too many seats with 75% democrats due to racial issues, but more competition in the other seats than before. Democrats gained one seat from reapportionment (Grayson) and flipped two seats in south Florida for a net gain of 3.

Other states should implement Florida's redistricting amendments, without the references to race.

And that's the real tragedy of 2010. Of all the years for Democrats to throw a hissy fit, they chose a census year.
