To those wondering why so many young stupid females: consider the environment they were raised in. They're actively discouraged from thinking for themselves and encouraged to parrot what their fathers/husbands tell them to think. Meanwhile, a friend of theirs posted AWESOME photos from Bondi Beach last weeks so that's totes where they're going to emigrate to.

So, lessee, they can't leave right away because Thanksgiving/Christmas, so SPRING BREAK!! WOOOO! even if they're not in school any more and since they don't have a clue about emigrating they think they just need a passport and a plane ticket and so by my calculations they're going to land in Sydney right in the middle of gay Mardi Gras. I hope an enormous queen gives them a big hug and a glittery smooch when they get off the plane.

mrshowrules: pregerstheHobo: Stephen Harper is an arsehole.

I feel these people would like a central american country, they're more bootsrrappy and independent. Guatemala for example.

/csb, father-in-law was uber repub until moving to panama, now he sees people suffering every day and is more liberal than kucinicj

As soon as Canada merge's there two Liberal parties the Liberal Party elects Justin Trudeau as their leader, Harper's gone. It is a safety valve that we will activate if we have to.

Hoban Washburne: balial: Australia has lower effective tax rates than the US, once you bundle in state income tax. And they throw the healthcare in for free.

I'm going to guess this has something to do with Australia not building a ton of kajillion dollar fighter jets every year to go sit on a lot and rust somewhere. I could be wrong.

Reminds me of the "debate" that gave me a migraine last week when discussing the macro economics of military spending cuts with the Poli. Sci. students at ULM. They could not wrap their heads around the idea that we'd be better off closing some of the HUNDREDS of overseas bases that are redundant than cutting hardware purchases. Yes, we probably have more planes, tanks, and ships than we need, but at least those purchases do provide high paying defense industry jobs. The overseas bases, however, are pumping billions of dollars into the local economies of the nations that they are housed in. You don't honestly think a soldier stationed in Germany or Korea spends all their pay on base do you? Heck no, they are pouring that money into purchases and activities in that country. We could spend $6 trillion a year on over 4700 military installations, not counting the 400 small stations in Afghanistan. If we closed just 1/4 of those, we could cut $2.4 trillion from the military budget without costing any jobs in the military industrial complex.

I would love to see us get the military budget to a more reasonable 40% of our budget rather than the 59% of GDP it currently is, but we have to consider options other than "Don't build new planes." There are implications to any cuts, but we can mitigate the impact on our unemployment issue by bending the straw that sucks money out of our economy and pours it into the economies of other nations. http://www.laprogressive.com/defense-budget/

I was being a bit flippant and generalizing military overspending, but I do see your point. I wasn't suggesting that we stop building planes all together, but that we spend WAY too much on our military in general.

grumpyoldmann: Let them go. When they leave, it will raise the national I.Q average by several points.

Yea, too bad that all the jackasses in Hollywood that said they would leave the US when Bush was elected to his second term did not actually leave.

Actor_au: Is it a common thing for Americans to think you can just emmigrate? Because I used to hang out/lurk on a travel message board and a lot of people would talk about moving to Europe Australia and sometimes New Zealand, like it was easy to do. I work with a bunch of former refugees now legal aliens soon to be citizens and it was not an easy road.

Also: To all republicans who wish to come to Australia, I recommend taking a boat not a plane. We really respect people who come here by boat. We even give them free homes on tropical islands! I promise it is not socialism!

The really amazing thing is these are the same people that blow a gasket over Mexicans moving to the U.S.

That's just a question of time...

Yes.

The vast majority of people don't understand how easy we've got it here. They can't even fathom that other countries flatly do not want them. Even before we turned on our allies post-9/11 and pre-Iraq, it wasn't exactly a cakewalk. These days being an American is akin to being a plague carrier.

Also, our TV and movies like to paint it as easy as buying a house in Tuscany and hopping a flight. Just move into your new home and never leave. Also, that others actually care what some disaffected American emigrant might think or say, or that they are entirely incapable of saying it in the native language (EVERYBODY speaks English!).

I'm just pissed that I'm one generation too far removed to be able to get my Irish or German citizenship. Just one damn generation...

steerforth: How the hell do these retards think they'll get in to Australia in the first place? We have very strict border control rules, I assure you.

Came here for this.

The same people are probably are all up in arms over illegal immigrants who think they can just move to the US.

Satanic_Hamster: So there's three dozen Republicans singing this today:

I'm gonna live on a mountain
Way down under in Australia
It's either that or suicide
It's such a strange strain on you
Ooh, I got a mind
Over you it's not the first time
Ooh, I got a mind

Yeah, some of them are Downed, all right. We also would have accepted "You're all talk", 'cuz none of them will follow through. I mean, Come On, Come On already.

They can't even fathom that even we in the US generally find them about as welcome as a fart in church.

/why do so many people who claim to "love America" manage to hate 80% of the people who ARE America?

jakomo002: Good. I heard enough Romney supporters saying they'll move to Canada if Obama wins.

Well, we don't WANT you up here, not even in Alberta. Not if you think Obama is too "socialist".

Yes, we don't need anymore Wildrose/Canadian Tea Party derp up here

Yes, most likely because their ascendants were simply crammed on a boat and sent here, or already had relatives with citizenship. My grandma came over via War Brides Act, so of course she had it easier than most.

Probably also because it's easy for jet-setting zillionaires to get citizenship wherever they like.

If I were rich, I'd give free rides for Republicans from California to Canada. I'd even put up with their rage filled psychotic babel, and country gospel music. It would all be worth it, just to see the look on their face when I threw them out of the car in the middle of the frozen tundra.

2012-11-07 01:53:02 PM
Should I have heard of any of them?

Well they can always try the religious, lax regulation, free market paradise that is Somolia.

Is anyone starting up a collection to help get these poor souls to a place here they will finally be happy? I'm currently out of work, but I'd be willing to kick in a few bucks to help just one person be able to sleep at night because they are away from our "oppressive" government. One rule: There has to be live video of the moment each one comes to realize that they haven't moved to a conservative utopia after all, preferably in 3D, watching their faces fall will be worth any amount of money.

2012-11-07 02:10:56 PM
So close subby. It's kind of jacked up, because it's 34 who said it, one who said New Zealand, one who said their dad was, and one who said they heard somebody say it. I hope they have weapons.

2012-11-07 02:22:50 PM

Teresaol31: Somehow I do not think that Australia would allow them in. Canada doesn't want them either. They can't move south of the border because "OMG brown people" not to mention the Mexicans would not put up with their shiat.

Sorry Teresaol31, but the Simpsons Romneys already did it:

Hey maybe the film fans will finally get the Scouring of the Shire sequence that they wanted.

If only Romney had reached out and taken the election, now all these poor souls have to worry about Obama's dream police coming to get them.

WienerButt: Thats No Moose: It's interesting to note how many of those are women, and what looks like relatively young women.

I don't want to seem sexist, but fark it.

I have never met a woman who was conservative and backed it up with at least some well versed, intelligent rhetoric. I have some guy friends who say stupid shiat and spout out talking points, but I have other friends who have respectable views and use them to illustrate their own personal challenges. Every single woman (keep in mind I am late 20s) I see on Facebook is just flat out retarded. Elementary school teachers calling obama a Muslim socialist, asking for a good book on communist leaders so they know how the next four years will be, etc.

There is no scientific explanation for the derp.

Maybe you're just in the wrong profession. I'm a retired senior librarian from a large urban public library system. I worked with (and for) a great many women over the years, and generally got along with them quite well. About half of them were single at any given time, and probably 80% of all of them were far more liberal than the average -- not to mention far better educated. (Two master's degrees was very common for all of us.) And this was a conservative city in a Southern state. (. . . which, I have to admit, went for Obama yesterday. Amazing.)

OTOH, the stay-at-home-type women in my upper-middle-income subdivision don't seem to be entirely convinced that the Earth rotates around the sun, and not vice versa.

Healthcare is free if you earn less than $50,000 p.a. If you earn more than that you either have to buy private health insurance or pay an extra Medicare surcharge at tax return time, which I think works out to about $800 or so.

We have people suffering from Conservative Personality Disorder over here already so they would find like minded people to biatch and moan with. But they would be disappointed in the relatively center right nature of our conservative party which is paradoxically called the Liberal Party (its not really liberal). As well as the centrist nature of the once left wing Labor Party which is currently in government.

I think rather than running away from the sanity of Obama's government they should seek psychiatric treatment for their disorder. After all, there is nowhere in the developed world for them to run that is more conservative than where they already are.

Technically not free; it costs 1.5% of income, plus an additional 1% if you are a higher income earner and don't take insurance.

You said it better and more accurately than I did.

Really nothing is free. You either pay for it in taxes or deficits. Some things are worth paying more tax for though, and Universal Health Care is one of those things.

Yes, nothing the government provides is "free" (to anyone who is a taxpayer); but in this case it's a specific revenue stream added to fund this in particular.

(And yes, it's well worth it.)

There is, actually. They simply don't read newspapers or any other form of media that has depth. Not a single one has probably ever picked up and read the NY Times. That's the outcome of the new media - headlines and all.
